Well, I've been an "on and off" Airtel Customer since 2003. I've used their services in MP(Gwalior), Rajasthan, Delhi, Himachal and Karnataka. As servicemen, we keep moving from place to place and therefore end up having to keep changing SIM cards.
As you would apprieciate; and as is the case with most cellular operators in the country, the serives vary vastly from state to state. I have found them really good in Rajasthan and MP, where other operators are pretty expensive. I am a Lifetime Prepaid customer with and MP and Chattisgarh SIM card(I bought one prior to leaving Gwalior, and have been using it on roaming - with the new reduced rates of Re.1 incoming and Re. 1.50 outgoing) - and I can safely say, I have no complaints. I have tried using the Customer Care - but they just end up frustrating you, so I don't advise even trying! It's better to contact a dealer and ask him for help! They seem to know their stuff. Yes, there is one MAJOR issue with recharing SIM cards on roaming. You never know how much talktime they're going to give you - A 500 rupee recharge may just get you 10 rupees. Even worse, it might end up converting your card from LifeTime to NonLifeTime, or something like that. They need to wake up and get their act together on this one!
Overall, yes, I would suggest buying an AirTel card, esp if you want uninteruppted coverage in the far flung border towns of Rajasthan.
