Dear All,
This is not a review. This is a technical workaround. I didn't know where to post it, but for people who understand what this is all about, its really useful, so I am sharing it
''You want to run a webserver, mail server, file sharing etc in your airtel broadband connection, and you see that when you type in your IP address, the DSL Router's authentication window pops up.''
I went all around the internet and never found an useful solution for this. There was one solution, but it never worked for me. Then some one told me that if we use USB connection, there is no problem, but alas, I was using an USB already and I was facing the problem. Then I found the base and the solution.
Note: This solution is only applicable for dynamic IP and I DO NOT GIVE ANY GUARANTEE FOR IT TO WORK. ALSO IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG WHEN YOU DO THIS, I CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE.
PLEASE DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK
When you connect your computer through PPPoA/PPPoE you tend to give your username password inside the ''192.168.1.1 '' control panel of the ASDL router. This means that you are connecting to the router first which is in turn connecting you to the internet.
When you use a dialer, you are directly connecting to the internet. So the solution lies in using the dialer. If you are a first time user, and the airtel guy is coming to setup the connection for you, ask him to get the connection with dialer and not save the password in the control panel. Dialer is typical solution when you use an USB, but on ethernet you will need to request him to configure. Also you will need to ask him to convert it from PPPoA/PPPoE to Bridging.
Users who already have the connection and wanna change to the ''pointing solution'':
Go to https://cctech.serveftp.com/
Click on Download on the left side
New window opens
Download the PPPoEDialer
Install the dialer
Now restart your computer
NOTE: Make sure you have your username and password handy. You will need to feed this to the dialer.
Now login to 192.168.1.1
username and password is provided by the airtel people itself to you (admin is the username usually)
Click on WAN on the left side
Remove all the connections
Now Click on Add
VPI is 1 and VCI is 32
Protocol is Bridging
All others just leave it like that and just keep clicking next
After the summary is displayed, just click on Save and Reboot
Wait for a few mins
Switch off and on your router.
Click on Airtel (not Airtel BOD) Icon in your desktop (Dialer shortcut)
Give your username and password and connect
YOU ARE DONE !!! Check any web or mail server and it will now run from your computer itself !!!
My suggestion would be that you ask the Airtel Customer Care to help you do the above stuff. Just ask them that you need to change from PPPoE mode to Bridging Mode and they will help you.
I like my Airtel. The Technical Guy spent 20 mins telling me how to do this, and he was very very patient !!
Kudos!!!
