My experience with Aditya Jyot Hospital

Staff Attitude:

I underwent the cataract surgeries in May 2022 for both my eyes. I opted for multi focal lenses. Before cataract, had a hole in my right eye retina fixed with a Laser procedure, I had too many floaters in both my eyes which made my life more difficult than what it was pre-cataract.

After spending on multi focal lenses I was feeling as if I am worse of than what I was before. I was not able to do any normal reading or writing or working on a PC. Every day passing by became a big challenge for me and I was just not able to cope with the situation.

And then to make my life worse, I had a Retinal Detachment in my left eye in November 2022. Laser did not help to keep it in place and had to undergo a surgery in December 2022. So just within the span of 7 months, I had as many as 2 cataracts, 2 lasers and 1 Retina procedure, in all 5 eye procedures!

But I am very grateful to Dr. Jaydeep Walinjkar who has restored my left eye vision not just to normalcy but something above that level. He has not only saved my left eye, but he has made it far better than what it was or had become. Now I am able to lead a normal life after a gap of nearly 8 months. Retina surgery entails a lot of inconvenience for 8 weeks after surgery but all that trouble I find was worth it as I had otherwise become a useless person for anyone and everyone without being able to see properly. My eye power also Dr. Jaydeep has made sure that it remained the same despite retina surgery. All floaters are gone now and the World around looks crystal clear. Although I have floaters in my right eye and I suspect retina problem to crop up in right eye also sooner or later, all credit goes to Dr. Jaydeep without whose efforts my life had practically come to an end.

There is however improvement needed in Surgery coordinators. Neither before my cataracts nor before my Retina procedure I was told that I cannot have head bath for 15 days and 30 days respectively. That bomb shell was dropped on me when the nurse gave in my hands my discharge summary. This is improper.

In a tropical country like India, patient cannot live without head bath for even 2 days. Persons who work in the Sun have to have head bath daily. So restrictions in head bath must be revealed well before the surgery date so that patient can have a hair cut etc in time.

So also, multi focal lenses must not be recommended without finding out occupation of the patient undergoing cataract surgery. Not just surgery coordinators but the doctors doing the procedure must enquire with the patient and decide which lens would suit him or her. No marketing strategies be deployed to sell more multi focal lenses because the optical illusion that is caused by multi focal lenses, especially at night is quite bad. I am slowly getting used to it but had I known this side effect of multi focal lens, perhaps I would not have opted for it.
