Touching ! Probably closest any film-maker has taken the camera, to bitter truth, only personified by the to-be-oscar-nominated legend Jack Nicholson. The story entails around the edge of retirement of a hot shot insurance executive. Drawn away from his normal work environment, Warren Schmidt(Jack Nicholson) finds it extremely difficult to find any definition in his daily existence. Add to this misery, the sudden death of his wife and a just-about-to-happen-wedding of his only daughter with a utterly useless waterbed salesman (at least this is what he thinks!). He finally tries revisiting his roots in his mobile home and also stops by his daughter’s place. There is a lot of humour which masks the hard reality. Jack Nicholson’s performance has the characteristics of As Good as it Gets, the dexterous mix of comedy and deep deep emotions ! Made straight for the oscar. The movie might appear rather too slow but the director has skillfully used this to depict the stagnation of a person’s life. Five star recommendation from my side !
