Old Aashiqui was good enough to drive me to watch Aashiqui 2. There have been rumours of Aashiqui 2 since the first Aashiqui came out.
Where in Aashiqui one the struggling singer, Rahul(Rahul Roy) helps the oblivious beauty Anu(Anu Agrawal) to reach the stardum, Aashiqui 2 is all about how a falling star , Rahul(Aditya Roy Kapur) helps shoot up the career of Anu(Shraddha Kapoor) to the sky. Thus, Aashiqui 2 is not a sequel nor a complete remake of Aashiqui but inspired from and have it's rhythm lingering within it.
The chemistry between Aditya Roy and Shraddha is very good. Almost as good as Rahul Roy and Anu Agrawal in the Aashiqui. But performance wise both cannot catch up to the expectations. Aditya Roy’s character is similar to Devdas and required lot more effort than Aditya put in. That does not mean Aditya is a bad actor. He is relatively new and has miles to go and so little trembling here and there is forgivable.
Shraddha is good but she also tumbles to live up to the expectations. One cannot just compare her to Anu Agrawal who was heart throbbing sizzling and charming.
The story is the same age old romance drama and offers nothing different and new but the heart breaking moments are worth watching.
Music is the best part to look out for and “Tum Hi Ho”, "Sun Raha Hai" and “Milne Hai Muhse Aayi” are good among the lot. Rest is forgettable. It will be incorrect to compare the music to old Aashiqui but injustice if not done. Bhatt’s Fault! Why the hell they gave the same name to the movie? Aashiqui (1990) thrusts and pulls Aashiqui 2 down and batters it till death, if the bout is all about the music.
Mohit Suri is a nice singer and have put good efforts in making this movie. His efforts are successful to some extent. Good attempt. Had the story comprised of something different and exciting to offer, something new to the world of romance, Mohit, there could have been nothing between you and the Filmfare Best director . At least you would have got a nomination.
Screenplay is OK. Editing is fine.
The movie, overall, is not that bad and manages to hold you to your seat without getting boring (if not entertain). For Die Hard Aashiqs and Romantic movie lovers, it’s still worth a watch. For those who hate love stories , it’s the same old story. On a neutral note, if you have nothing else to do, go and watch else you can wait for Shoot Out At Wadala or watch IRON MAN 3 or Ek Thi Daayan.
My Rating: 2.5/5
