Bas itna hi aaj tak...intezar kijiye kal tak was their punch line when they first started as a 1~2 hour news channel before they started a 24 hour news channel.
Opinion
Aaj tak is a very good news channel, their USP was that they were the first dedicated hindi 24 hours news channel & in that space their only competition was doordarshan thus they could capitalize on it. Star & NDTV woke up very late. The key features are that they sensationalize the news & hit the crux of the matter. They offer a good mix of general, community, politics, business & sports. Some of their guys have been poached by star & NDTV but the show goes on. Some times they are really the first to show the news. Some ideas which they may use….start a news radio channel & a special channel that focuses on public interest news void of politics, sports & crime something on the lines of mid-day newspaper. Through this channel they can also have special programs on the lines of Nat Geo & BBC.
Kudos to them for their radical advertisements. I think they were one of the first to popularize a news channel using advertisements.
