Its Party time… Why? ... Well May is a month full of b’days. Surveys prove that maximum numbers of children are born in the months of May and December. So then the numbers of parties increase too. But throwing a party is not everyone’s cup of tea. Many people try to save themselves from treating their friends, while the others prefer taking friends out to some restaurant for lunch or dinner. But someone who dares to call friends over to his house for a party is a clear winner.

Arranging a party at home can be SO boring and cumbersome. Arranging things at the right place, time and order can cause lots of hard work and is time consuming. And then how hard it is to stand upto the expectations of each guest? Many a times the arrangements at parties we go to seem not upto the mark just because the party is lousy and uninteresting. So what does one do to liven up a party? Maybe try all this…

MUSIC… There’s no better way to turn a party into a BASH!!! After all if eating food was the only thing on the minds of the guests, they could’ve done so at their homes too!!! But a party is a place people come to enjoy and unwind, and music for sure is the greatest mind soother. What works perfect for a gathering of about 50 people is a DJ! Loud music of your choice or soft numbers to sooth you, all of it and more. Music does a lot of magic, even someone standing alone in a corner would not feel bored if only we have good music playing, and it surely gives a better feel than hearing conversations of people around! It’s an instant life adder to your party!

VENUE…What you were planning it yet again in your living room??? ‘Food on the dining table and seating on the sofa?’ Please guys, this is SO old and forgotten. Home is a place to explore… May it be a 2 room apartment or a quarter, there is so much you can do to it. The ambience of the party deeply affects the level of enjoyment. Remember the last time you went to a banquet hall for a wedding and the small place had a gathering of 300 people and how claustrophobic it all got?? And then the last time you went to a reception party at the farm house and how you loved it even in the cold, standing by the bon fire! So the venue of the parry makes a Big difference to the atmosphere of the party. Try things like, removing the sofa set and spreading beddings along the walls of the room with cushions. It gives an ethnic look and makes the room look spacious. Or may be you could serve the food in the balcony or lawn? Such things might seem minor but are highly useful!

THEME… I know this hardly works for us Indians. After all why would our dads wear black clothes if he wishes to wear some others? But there are other ways to give a party a theme, like having the entire decoration and music set into a particular genre, age, culture or mood. Like decorating the entire room like it was a beach at Goa., with leaves of palm trees and bananas and some sand, serving coconut water to go with the theme. If it’s a Birthday Bash you can have b‘day caps and pomps to make it interesting.

MENU… At the end of the day, a party is all about food… isn’t it? : ) All that the guests await all eve is the food, and if it is not properly prepared, the party will be a BIG flop and talked about as one, for days together. I am always in the favor of simple food, one doesn’t need to go over the board with cookery books and dishes that sound like tongue twisters. It can be simple Dal – Roti, but the basic concept is that it has to taste GOOD. There is hardly any need to make countless number of dishes which taste either same or stale!!! Make limited dishes, but each of them should taste fresh and good.

GATHERING… Something that can be a major turn off is the kind of people you invite for a party. Imagine all your uncles and aunts and your work place friends at the same party? It becomes such a mess. So the best thing to do is to have people sorted out, unless it is unavoidable. There can be one gathering for friends and another one for family. Since the real purpose of a party I believe is to get together and spend some worth time. So it’s always great to have guests sorted out so that u can spend worth time together.

I hope these tips help u in some way or the other when u plan your next party.
