Sri krishna temple is located in ambalappuzha which is about 15 km north of alappuzha, the temple is situated very near to the nh 66(old nh 47) and is also easily accesible by rail, through ambalappuzha station.
The temple is very old and follows kerala temple architecture, the temple was under the travancore kingdom and rose to prominence when during 1789 the idol of guruvayoor temple was brought here to be protected from invading tipu sultan. There is a myth that sri krishna comes here from guruvayoor during the palapsaya nedyam everyday. The ambalapuzha palpasayam which is a rice pudding with condensed milk is what the temple is know for most now. Due to its fame the palpasayam has to be booked atleast a day in advance.
Another reason for fame of ambalapuzha is that kunchan nambiar, malayalam poet and satarist performed here during the 18th century, his mizhav(type of drum) is still on display at the temple premisis.
Even without these factors the temple has a serene as well as spiritual atmosphere and is a must visit for anyone on pilgrimage.
