First a choreographer, then a film director, then a part-time TV anchor, and now an actress in lead role, Farah Khan has climbed so many steps, and I must appreciate her determination in everything, but this movie has proved one thing that ‘A director can direct good but may not be able to act well’, well that was it about the Farah’s performance in this movie.
First a waiter, then a bakery shop owner, then a professional photographer, and now an established actor Boman Irani has climbed so many steps, and I must appreciate in bringing the magic to a role of a 45yr old bachelor who falls in love. He is so charismatic that every role fits to him and it like that it is tailor-made for him.
First sharing adjacent seat with a ‘Laga Laga Laga re’ self-claimed music director who was singing this line every 5 minutes while the show of the movie ‘Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya’, then sharing adjacent seat with a HR fan who was in every 5 minutes saying ‘Tera Tera Tera suroooor’ and making the life hell, and now sharing adjacent seat with a guy who was laughing at every scene, where they are not even funny, but he was laughing like this may be the biggest comedy blockbuster of all time, I me myself felt so agitated and irritated that I suddenly felt to kick all those seat-sharer.
Well that was all!, now let me continue with the review on this week’s release ‘Shirin Farhad ki to Nikal padi’ directed by debutante Bela Bhansali Sehgal, sibling of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. As long is the name of movie, the story is as short, it’s a love story of somewhat older bachelors who crossed 40. And when I saw the move I find that there was actually no plot or story to begin with or to show.
This ambitious project of Bela stood as ambitious, but far from entertaining, it is a story of a bra-panty Salesman 45 yr aged Farhad Pastakia (Boman Irani), who lives with his mamma (Daisy Irani) and grandmother (Shammi). He is still a bachelor, and family is searching a bride for him. One fine day he met Shirin Fuggawala (Farah Khan) who is also serving his coma-suffering dad and is also a bachelor. He falls in love with her and vice-versa happened. But she is also the secretary of Parsi association who is responsible for giving orders to break an illegal tank in Farhad’s house, due to which Farhad’s mamma hate her. But in the end all well that ends well.
Boman is a gem of actor, and he proves it here too, he looks just perfect and I got to hear his famous Dr.Asthana laugh here in starting of movie. Daisy Irani was the best performer of the movie, and I enjoyed every scene shot with her. Farah required some acting skills for sure, but I felt that as a first-timer she did well, and the direction was also lousy from debutante Bela. I must say that it was a good though but Bela let it go wasted, had she prepared it well, this movie can turn out to be a classic, but alas! In one scene Farah delivered the dialogues so mechanically, it looks like she’s just reading it from script-paper, emotions/feeling was missing. Many scenes are not required and actually injected for getting mad laughs out of audience but they felt pathetically on the floor, as far as I am concerned (Please don’t mind the person who was sitting in the adjacent seat of mine!). Some scenes were just dropped in between. I don’t know whether those were shot or not or edited afterwards, but one such scene looks just gone like puff! It was a good scene and can develop into a bigger one, but next moment it was gone (The scene before the climax where Boman was taken to police station). Between two scenes link missed, when the Farah’s entry comes in the movie, the camera just zoomed to from one scene to other one without any linking; well I am seeing a movie, not a serial! Bela has to learn a lot from Sanjay. You know Kurush Deboo, Dr.Rustam of Munnabhai, he was also there, but just for 2 scenes, and was simply wasted. I don’t know what he was doing there as a mad person.
Songs are good though, music, and picturisation. ‘Khatti meethi’ (Shreya Ghoshal) and ‘Ramba mein Samba’ (Usha Uthup) were the best composition of the album, but remaining songs are also good. There are total 6 songs in the movie with the title song coming during end, just too many songs for a small (about 1 hr 50 min) yet boring movie. It was looking like Bela first shot the songs, and then fix the story in between. Picturisation of ‘Kaafir Andhere’ and ‘Ramba mein Samba’ are good. Nice music is given by Jeet Ganguly, which seems fresh. Some scenes are good, with good dialogues and comic sequences, but tjey were scattered in the movie, so movie is fine only in pits and pieces, but the product as a whole comes as avoidable. 1st half was bad, though 2nd half supported enough to hold the movie. There are few dialogues and references for the adults only, so try to remember about those before going to watch it!
The movie is a feel-good and different for sure, and you can go to watch it, but if you missed it, chalta hai! No problemo, good that you missed it! I will say that a good opportunity wasted. My take 2/5. Neither me nor my wife liked the movie, Shirin! SHUT UP Farhad!!
