Originality:

Let me start by saying I'm really surprised that there nobody on MS has yet reviewed the songs of Minnale. And I take great pride in being the first to write about it...(coz all the songs are awesome!!)

The director of this movie is Gautham, for whom this was a debut movie. The music director is Harris Jeyaraj, who too made his debut. He used to be(I believe he still is) AR Rahman's assistant.

People said that HJ had copied some of ARR's tunes, but whether or not that's true, a man has to be credited for giving excellent music, and Harris Jeyaraj deserves every bit of praise for that.

The five songs in the album are:

Hey Azhagiye Theeye -- Harish Raghavendra, Timmy

A song that the hero sings about the heroine, calling her a beautiful fire that sautes him and about how she makes him feel. Nice tappy number.

Oh Mama Mama Mama -- Shanker Mahadevan, Tippu

A song that talks about enjoying life and being playful.

'Oh Sunday Monday Tuesday Ezhunaalum tension freeya'

meaning 'All 7 days free from tension'...

Shanker Mahadevan sings it very well, showing he can sing songs of any mood or calibre.

Ore Nyabagam -- Devan

A very small song sung by Devan. Very soothing number that sets the pace for the next song (and the super hit of the album) Vaseegara

Ore Nyabagam means 'only one memory' but it can also be taken to mean 'so many memories'. I guess the hero means his only memories are those of the heroine.

Vaseegara -- Bombay Jayashree

The MEGA Hit song! Bombay Jayashree renders it beautifully, at the pitch she's very comfortable in. The flute interluds are very good too. A perfect song, with no errors to pinpoint. A lot of Hindi movie buffs too prefer this tamil rendition to the hindi version. I don't know what the song means in Hindi but it's pretty nice in Tamil. Since I expect a lot of you would want to hum along, I'm going to give the lyrics and translation of the song. This was the first song Thamarai wrote lyrics for, I believe. I also think it was the first time a lady wrote lyrics in a Tamil movie. This is the only song she's written; the rest are written by Valee.

Venmathiye Nillu -- Roopkumar Rathod

My personal favourite. Roopkumar sings it beautifully, and you won't even realise he doesn't know tamil, when you hear the song. Pronunciation is good and he sings it with a lot of passion. It's a sad song that the hero sings, when he is determined to forget the heroine who hates him now after finding him out to be an imposter. It's awesome and the lyrics are excellent. I could hear this song and Vaseegara all day and not get bored.

Verenna Verenna Vaendum -- Unni Krishnan, Harini

It's a pretty good song, with very good lyrics, but it's not as sensational as Venmathiye or Vaseegara and doesn't carry the tone set by those two lovely songs.

Lyrics and translation of Vaseegara: Just remember that no song sounds great translated, so don't judge the lyrics by how they sound in English!

vaseegara en nenjinikka

un pon madiyil thoonginaal pothum

Oh charismatic one, for my heart to be happy it's enough if I sleep in your golden lap.

adhae kaNam en kaNNuranga

mun jenmangaLin yaekkangaL theerum

That very second I will fall asleep and all my previous births' desires will be fulfilled.

naan naesippathum swasippathum un dhayavaal thaanae

My loving and breathing are all because of your favour

yaengugiraen yaengugiraen un ninaivaal naanae naan...

I'm yearning...I'm yearning...in your memory...

adai mazhai varum athil nanaivomae

Heavy rain will come...and we'll get wet in it

kuLir kaaichchalodu snegam

We'll catch a cold and flu

oru porvaikkuL iru thookkam

Two slumbers under one blanket

kuLu kuLu poigaL solli ennai velvaay

kaathalenum mudiveliyil gadigaara neram kidaiyaadhe

In the garden called love there are no clocks or time...

(vaseegaraa...)

I also translated 'Venmathiye Nillu' but am not able to add it here, so I've put it up in the comments section.

I took quite some effort writing the lyrics and translating them, so I really hope you like them!! Do drop in your comments; they'll be much appreciated. Thankyou.
