I am a bit of a beauty product junkie. I started shopping at Lush before they opened stores in the USA and had to order directly from Canada or the UK via mail order. This obsession started back in 1999 and since then I have tried and purchased virtually every product they have made.
This includes the limited edition items from Lush. What I love about their product line, is the lack of unnecessary chemicals and using real fruit and vegetable extracts along with essential oils. All of their products are hand made and the fragrances of many products are amazing. I would say their products are more costly than mainstream drug store products and considered more “high end”.
A lot of shampoos on the market are now being formulated with really cheap silicones or “cones” in them. These “cones” build up on your hair over time and actually damage your hair because it keeps moisture from getting into the cuticle of your hair when you condition it. It also will weigh down your hair and over time make it heavy and lack luster.
This is especially true for those with fine or straight hair. Anything like dimithecone or words ending with “cone” on the ingredient list I stay clear of. This is becoming more and more difficult as manufacturers are adding them more and more due to the fact that they are cheap and give the “illusion” of soft shiny hair the first few times you use them. They are in everything from shampoo, conditioner, hair sprays, molding waxes, etc. Because of this, it is wise to “strip” them out weekly from your hair and then use a very good silicone free conditioner on your hair. This is where Lush Big comes in to the picture.
From the Company**:
"This shampoo takes ten (or maybe twenty) years off of your hair. Your hair will look as if it belongs to someone who has never stayed up late, stood around in smoky pubs, been swimming and got drenched in chlorine, been permed, coloured or dried out. Your hair will shine - nay, it will gleam - like never before! Grown women have been walking up to almost complete strangers and inviting them to stroke their hair because it feels so fantastic. And this is even in hard water areas! In soft water areas it also gives masses of volume. Why and how? Who cares? Just buy it! Oh, OK then. Sea salt, seaweed, lemon and limes juices and coconut oil. But they have to be in the right order. The effect is not temporary; you hair just gets better and better. So buy it."
I don’t know about strangers stroking my hair, but I know I tend to stroke my own hair more often because it leaves it soft and silky and the volume returns to my hair. I look forward to using this product once every week or two depending on how “weighed down” my hair feels from other products.
This product has a strange texture sort of like tapioca pudding. It comes in a little black pot and you scoop out just enough with ONE finger and emulsify between your hands before lathering up. I find if you make sure your head is very wet from the shower you will get more lather than you need from it. It has salt crystals and a lot of citrus juices, which feel very refreshing on the scalp. It also cuts through all the gunk and leaves your hair weightless.
Be sure to use a good quality conditioner following, as it can be a little drying to your hair after removing all the build up in your hair. I follow up with their American Cream Conditioner, which seems to work the best on my hair.
For me Lush Big is worth the price tag. I have a pot that has nearly ¼ of the jar left after a year of using it on a semi regular weekly basis. In return I have soft bouncy shiny hair.
You may purchase this in one of their stores or via mail order. If you go to https://lush.com there will be flags and choose your country in which to shop. They will list store locations on their sites. If you do not have a local store location, they will ship to you via Canada or the UK. I find that the products made in the UK to be a bit less expensive and made a little better than the products made in Canada.
