A very sleek and stylish phone. The phone is very light but still is feature rich.

The ringtones are excellent, being polyphonic – whatever that means. I believe even Samsung phones have this feature. Anyways the musical ringtones are much better than what your average Nokia has to offer.

This difference is due to the fact that the Nokia ringtones are played with a single instrument whereas the LG polyphonic tunes are recorded with 16 instruments.

Moving on, the Backlight is Blue and you can adjust its contrast to suit your liking. The keypad is metallic and the numbers are translucent. When the phone is active the numbers shine with a green light. The phone looks very pretty and is definitely something one would aspire to have.

This phone has Black and White Screen. It has capabilities to display streaming video but the picture is not very sharp. The phone has a data port via which you can connect the phone to your PC and then see the Video’s or browse the Web. When you’re browsing the web through this phone the phone essentially functions as a modem. I have not tried this since I do not have the data cable, which is required for making such connection.

I have used this phone with a CDMA connection from Reliance India Mobile (RIM). Many of the features are thus dependent on the services offered by RIM. The phone has a shortcut key by which you get directly connected to R-World, which is the gateway to all Internet related services of RIM.

The other three short cuts provided are 1. To ringtones. 2. To the phone book. And 3. To the Messages.

You can send messages (SMS) from this phone which is done in the same way as with the average Nokia phone.

Since I have used and am still using Nokia 3315 GSM phone, this review will contain several comparisons with the Nokia phone.

In the looks department the winner is definitely LG. The Nokia phone looks bulky and is heavier than the RD 2030. Its sleek, slim design alongwith the soothing silver and white metallic color scheme makes this phone one of the best designed phones in the market. Unfortunately since all RIM subscribers will be getting the same phone (LG in Mumbai and Samsung in Delhi), we will be seeing too many hands wielding this phone and hence it will not retain its charm as a status symbol.

As with any other phone, this phone also has a Phone book and a list of recently dialled numbers.

(I know what you must be thinking – Ha Ha Very funny!) Please bear with me. When I say that this phone also has the above mundane features, definitely there has to be some difference that I want to point out.

First off, in the Dialled Calls list this phone stores for you a list of the last 99 calls dialled. 3315 lists only 20. Whether this is good or bad, I am not sure. Browsing through 99 numbers looking for a single number could turn out to be like searching for the proverbial needle.

In the Phone book, and it took me some time to learn how to use this feature, for a single name you can save her mobile number, office number, home number, fax number, general and e-mail. Whew. You can also decide which of these you want to be the default dialling number.

On the 3315 I use the assign tones function extensively and hence I was anxious to know whether a similar function would be available or not on the LG model. Thankfully it is.

The Voice Tags feature of 3315 is not available, but that did not bother me as I do not use that function.

The voice clarity is booming and you‘ve to keep the ear piece away from your ear else you will get an earache. So is the case with carrying your voice. Even your whispers will carry very clearly to the other party. Unfortunately everything my neighbor says also carries equally well.

All in all this is a very good phone and I am happy with its functions. There are many other features and functions available on this phone, but I have not written about those as I am still to use them.

Since writing that line, I browsed on the phone and visited Yahoo mail and checked my E-mails there. Its really cool to be able to check your mails while traveling to work.

I would certainly recommend a LG phone to any of my friends, but once they see me using this phone – No recommendation is necessary. The phone has a “Pick-me-up” look and anybody who uses it once would certainly want one for himself.
