Trip to Lakshadweep - Kadmat Island was our Honeymoon Trip(Really thank my wife for suggesting and insisting the place).

Kadmat Island Resort is the best option and perfect value for money .  Lakshadweep package provided by SPORTS.

About the Resort

-

Resort is at the southern end of the Kadmat island which about 10 kms long and average wide of 0.5 km(Looks like straight line from top).

Resort provides A/C and non A/C accommodation @ INR 4000/- & INR 3000/- per night per couple. Room was spacious with attached bathroom. Rating would be average. They have decent bedding and furniture but good enough to crash after a good day-long water sport activities.

Room Service is good. The resort also has a modern gym with table-tennis, Badminton court, threadmills, weights, so on.

(We assumed the accommodation at Kadmat would be horrible. So we booked only 3 days in Kadmat and final honeymoon day in Agatti island. But Agatti resort was sheer waste of Rs 10, 000/- We could have stayed for 2 more days at Kadmat instead)

Best part of Kadmat package is that following water sport activities are included(free cost with the accommodation)

  • Kayaking

  • Guided Snorkeling

  • Snorkeling Kit

  • Glass Bottom Boat Trip

  • Local Kadmat island SightSeeing

  • Local Folk Dancing Night

Agatti charges you for anything and everything.

Staff & Locals

-

Staff at Kadmat island resort are very cheerful, friendly. Local language is Malayalam. But they speak good English and Hindi.

We had excellent snorkeling guide(Mr. Ali - Lakshadweep national level swimmer), who took us into some deep lagoons and showed some amazing aquatic life around the coral reefs.(We both are no swimmers)

Staff were really helpful and flexible. Just for us, they rescheduled the folk dancing and late night barbecue by 1 day advance, as we were leaving the next day.

Local sightseeing trip was also great. Trip involves visiting local factories(coconut powder and coir making small scale industry) and a drive to the northern tip of the island.

Food & Drink

-

Well, bad news for drinking folks. alcohol is strictly prohibited in the island(Island has almost 100% Muslim population. Drink is allowed only at Bangaram).

You can try some luck and get some early morning toddy(coconut liquor). Trust us it tastes amazing and really refreshing.

You need to step out into the island early in the morning and look out for toddy-maker climbing some coconut tree.

Food served at the resort is average.(compared to Agatti). But, its not really bad. Best thing, I liked was a good complete breakfast.

Do request for spicy local fish curry with rice cooked with coconut milk. (It's a really firework. Do have a running water tap next to you).

Sightseeing & Activities

-

Fresh beautiful virgin island with brilliant bright blue-green sea. Excellent Sunset/Sunrise.(For first two days, we were just 3 couples at the resort.) You have a lot of foreign tourists(esp. sea divers) visiting the island.

You walk around the village and enjoy the island life.

Must to do is Snorkeling. It is different world out there. Find colorful fishes like clown fish, parrot, surgeon fish, butterfly fish around the coral reef.

Unfortunately, most of corals were bleached by the El Nino effect. But there were few fresh corals growing out on the dead reefs.

If you are lucky, you might catch up with some turtles/sting ray.

Scuba-Diving - it is not part of SPORTS package. It is managed by a separate sea-diving organization called Laccadives. We did try an introductory dive for about 20-25 mins. It was a fantastic experience. Introductory Dive is about INR 1200 per person.

An experience instructor accompanies you and manages all the SCUBA controls and tows you around the lagoon. The experience to be completely submerged under water is excellent. Quite different from snorkeling.

One can also enroll into a certification diving course provided by Laccadives.

Deep-Sea Fishing- One can rent a boat for about INR 3000/- for some deep sea fishing.(We did not try fishing.)

How to reach Kadmat

-

We took IA flight from Kochi(you have kingfisher flight too) till Agatti island and paid SPORTS for Speed-boat transfer till Kadmat island. Speed Boat trip is about 2 hrs between the two islands.

Alternate mode till Agatti from Kochi would be a ship(24 hrs journey. folks with sea-sickness please avoid. Guests at Kadmat who took the ship gave some bad review about the entire endless journey)

Booking

SPORTS(Society for Promotion of Nature Tourism & Sports) manages all the booking
