from there we went to Jim Corbett park for a jungle safari.
INTRODUCTION - Jim Corbett Park is one of the 41 tiger reserves in India, named after Edward James(Jim) Corbett, who was a british hunter famous for saving lives of mountain folks and their cattle by killing man eater tigers and panthers.
LOCATION - Corbett is located around 250kms. north-east from delhi in Uttranchal.Nearest railway station is Ramnagar. You can go by road, or by overnight trains till Ramnagar and from there you can hire jeeps.For better Tourism management the park is divided into five different zones/gates, we went from Dhikala entrance.
ACCOMMODATION – The only basic accommodation available inside the park is Dormitories which needs to be booked in advance but, I would suggest you all to check into to nearest resort and go for sfari from there. Generally they arrange it from the resort itself.
ENTRY FEE – The that includes jeep ride enrty fee to the park and guide fee is 2300/- which we paid in the resort &they took our Id cards and arranged everything.There is a ticket counter at the dhikala entrance you can buy tickets and hire jeep and guide from there also. We started our Safari with a jeep, (open gypsy) and a cheerful(which later proved "painful") guide, lolzz.
FLORA - Corbett has around 600 different varieties of trees like bamboos, grasses, shrubs, herbs, climbers and ferns. The guide showed us a tree with red berries which were traditionally used in making SINDOOR!, haaan wohi EK CHUTKI sindoor, and see the audacity of tht man, he said “You city gurls have stopped wearing this original sindoor and you wear that synthetic colour, which is the main reason of the lower average age of Indian men!, can u beat it?!.
FAUNA – As per the guide’s knowledge!, there is more than 50 species of mammals, 580 types of birds and odd 100 something reptiles!, elephants, deers, monkeys, leopards, crocs, snakes, lizards, beautiful birds like Pelicans, Parakeets, Cuckoo, Coucal, Woodpeckers, Crimson-breasted Barbet, Magpie Robin, Red Junglefowl, Whitecrested Kalij Pheasant, Whistling Thrush, Woodshrikes, Tree Pies, and MANY MORE, but it’s all vague all they are interested is, showing the main attraction TIGER, !, they claim to have reached more than 150, but sadly we could not spot even one, all we saw were pug marks which were clearly MAN MADE!, surprise surprise!, :D.I have uploaded pics of the animals that we spotted.
THE GUIDE – Aha! the most interesting creature of Corbett, lolzzz.The moment we started our safari, he started rattling about Corbett and it’s dearest dahling TIGER, which bugged me to the core!, there is so much to see and observe there other than tigers, but they just advertise that. & then throughout the ride he would tell us to be patient as the chances of spotting a tiger is one out of four!, I need to go there three more times to get TIGER DARSHAN, :D.&when I asked him that why can’t they have cameras and stuff(like the ones used in foreign parks)as the technology could be a boon for a reserve like this one, Strange but every function there is manual! he bluntly told me, ”Madam app apney shahron wala commercialization mat offer kijiye, yahaan per bahut peaceful hai”!, to hell with the peace! that moron doesn’t know that if they have cameras than hw easy would it be to spot the animals and monitor their activities, they can even have a room with tv. monitors at the remotest part of the park, those who really want to see the tiger can have a look from there, as it is the chances of fetching it are so low, tht ways we’ll not even intrude in their territory!&watch them from a distance. Tht would be PEACEFUL! But alas!instead of listening to my brilliant ideas, lolzzz,
he cursed us visitors who come there & ask for tigers only, arey baba, they will ask only what is being promoted. Seriously he was a character!.
EXPERIENCE/ SAFARI – Ignore that stupid fellow and the experience is really thrilling, that ride into the jungle, those beautiful trees, shrubs, birds and animals, everything is fascinating about that place.Do get a good pair of binoculars if you go there and puh-lease don’t u ever take it on rent from the main gates of the park, those will tarnish the remotest chance of spotting a tiger, trust me you won’t be able to see any animal or bird or even your fellow riders!with that.
BEST SEASON – any where between Nov. – June, plan according to your preference and vacations, but the park is closed in monsoon, as the jungle gets very dense.

FISHING & HUNTING – I still remember when we were kids, my granny used to tell us the stories of my granpa’s numerous Corbett visits and hunting sprees, they used to sit there and do fishing for hours, it was really adventurous!. Wish I could do that!:(, but I have no intentions of going behind the bars, as now hunting is banned there, lolzzzz.
