On this Dhanteras, let me show you a unique way to make money, the ICICI Lombard way.
I had got its car insurance policy in the beginning of this year. I paid required sum, and considered it all done.
Recently, I happened to had to claim insurance coverage for one small repairing.
I was told by the company(and correctly, if I understand it now) that my claim cannot be accepted / approved because I had wrongly mentioned that with my earlier car insurance I had claimed insurance but while buying a policy from the company, I mentioned it wrongly that I had no claim with the last insurer.
So far, good. I trusted the company and felt my claim cannot be approved under such circumstances.
Then I asked how to correct this mistake and get my claim approved.
The company executive took deep interest this time around. I received an email with HOW TO quickly. It suggested me to make an additional payment, so that the claim can be approved. Fair enough, I said.
So, I made an additional payment. That was also acknowledged quickly.
Then started the game. I stopped getting feedback altogether. I started calling up the company and ended up getting service request numbers(sometime that was also not provided properly) and kept waiting.
Every time I called, I ended up speaking to different executive.
On the other hand, two executives sitting at the service centre where my card was for service as well as this small repair, seldom bothered to answer my call.
The entire process went on for a month. Then suddenly, when I asked for a resolution firmly, one Nikita came into the picture, over calls, and promised me that she would resolve the matter quickly.
Then one fine day, after waiting for another week, she called up just to inform that the claim cannot be approved.
What?!
Then why the hell you asked to make additional payment?
Then why the hell you kept me waiting for an entire month, and most importantly, for more than 20 days after making an additional payment towards the policy correction?
She had no answer to these questions. Neither the company has bothered to provide any answer.
I ended up paying extra money, without any benefit passed on to me.
My car remained unused for more than a month for no fault of mine.
And I have not received a single clarification on email in this regards.
Once money was in the company's account, it was like, "Who are you and for what we may bother to help you?"
Now I am going to take this matter to authorities, including consumer affairs, IRDA, Ministry of Finance, Government of India Reserve Bank of India and also to media.
That money paid is just one concern of all. The bigger concern is how can you be so one-sided, uncommunicative, and discretionary when it is your duty to furnish clear, acceptable information and resolution to a consumer? How can you ask for an additional charge and do nothing in the end?
Please beware of ICICI Lombard and think thousand times before buying any policy from it.
Trust me, it's slogan, or promise of NIBHAYE VAADEE is nothing but a bullshit.
