I don't know whether many MS members will be surprised by my choice of movies.I say this since I just read a review on the 'Hannah Montana' series on this very site which stated that the programme "is strictly for 10-16 year old girls".I don't think so(no offence to the reviewer).I really love watching the HM series & so does my mum.I know many guys around my age who like watching it too.Yes,by the way,I'm 19,my room's a baby pink,I love watching Disney cartoons(Aladdin's my all time favourite),I still like Looney Toons & I have an affinity to hug my soft toys when I retire for the night(I have a whole load of them).............& I'm not at all ashamed to admit all this.I don't think only teenagers should be watching HM,20 somethings be hooked onto Friends & 30 plus watching Ekta serials. It's the same as many 13 year olds & grown men watching Desperate Housewives. It's 2009 & I think people by now have broken age barriers.
Now coming to the movie itself,I truly do love the HM series & feel that the situations are in tune with what anyone & everyone experience in their day-to-day lives. The movie continues from the backdrop of the characters in the series.........Miley Stewart(Miley Cyrus) has been having a jolly good time enjoying her double life as pop sensation,Hannah(Miley Cyrus with a blonde wig). But now,Hannah's life has got in the way of Miley's personal commitments. When she shows up late for Lily's(Emily Osment) Sweet Sixteen,in Hannah's form, not only Lily but her whole family & friends are convinced that Miley's stuck at the crossroads & doesn't know how to remain true to herself anymore. To add to her troubles,a British journalist named Oswald(Peter Gunn) is behind her heels to dish out some dirt on Hannah. But atleast Oswald is being taken care by her loyal agent/publicist,Vita(Vanessa Williams). The other problems unfortunately, have to be solved by Miley herself. Her father,Robby Stewart(Billy Ray Cyrus) is tired of watching his daughter place Hannah's life before her own one & decides to teach her a lesson by taking her back to her roots:Tennessee. There she has to confront with her grandmother,Ruby(Margo Martindale) & her childhood friend,Travis(Lucas Till). Our very own Jackson Stewart(Jason Earles) also accompanies them since he's now attending University at Tennessee.Jackson & Miley not only learn something about themselves, but also realise that their father's attitude is changing about finding a new life partner..........................& that's something good!
This movie is meant to be watched in the theatres.I say this because the camerawork is beautiful.Tennessee is so lovely that my friend & me were dazed when we finally walked out of the cinema hall,we couldn't believe that we came back to this world. The movie starts with the HM series's title song,'Best of Both Worlds'.This is the new Miley Cyrus i.e. the 16 year old singing in a new version,so it's very peppy & energetic.Miley is not new to acting,so she's defnitely comfy playing her roles.Emily Osment looks all grown up & is well suited to be the main lead's best friend. She too has been playing the character for a long time.Jason Earles,Mitchel Musso(who plays Oliver Oken) & Moises Arias( who plays Rrrrrrrrrrico) lend in a bit of comedy.Billy Ray Cyrus has again like all the main characters been in this role for a long time, both reel & real.Vanessa Williams lends her own bit to the movie. But if you're someone who's a follower of 'Ugly Betty' you'll be pretty disappointed to see her underused.Lucas Till makes a handsome cowboy with his dimples :)
The supporting cast are very well placed. There are around a handful of guest appearences, whose names I'll not mention. The songs are revolved more around Miley & are better than the ones in the series,in fact they show that Miley Cyrus is a serious singer with a beautiful voice.
A great cast, meaningful guest appearences, beautiful country music & scenic locales add an earthy feel to the movie. This ran two hours without an interval(English movies aren't given a break here),my friend & me had no popcorn, drinks or nachos(we arrived just five minutes before the film started) & we just didn't feel time passing by.We had guys who were aged 18-21,boys aged 13-16,pre-teen girls, girls like me & elder ladies all in their own seperate groups come over to watch the film. This again proves that we don't require teens tagging along their mums to watch these movies. Also, don't forget to watch the end credits :)
Final grade- A+,If you don't follow the series at all, then you might feel differently.
