Garnier has long been a trusted name in hair care products. The Garnier Fructis Style Super Stiff gel offers super strong hold for the spikiest of hairstyles. Hairspray is fine to set a style, but a good gel, paste or glue is best for combining structure and the ultimate hold needed to keep a style at its best through the day and into the night.
The Super Stiff gel from Garnier is labeled as ultra-strong for intense structure and hold. It is packaged in a 6.8-ounce(192g) standing tube with flip-top lid. I love that Garnier products are so easy to find in the beauty aisle, just look for the bright green bottles.
Why is this gel different? Garnier’s Super Stiff gel is actually “formulated with fibers” according to its package description. Its “fruit micro-waxes” bind to the hair strands enabling you to stretch, pull and twist hair into funky, spiky or pieced hairstyles with ease. When applied to wet or slightly damp hair, the gel bonds to the strands making it easy to twist and spike. It does not dry sticky or stiff, but leaves the hair soft and touchable. It is a good gel for setting curls. It keeps them bouncy without the crunchiness that many other gels leave behind.
The directions say to squeeze the gel into your palms and rub your hands together. A word of warning, when doing this the gel will be very sticky and almost string-like. Work the gel into wet or slightly damp hair, distributing evenly. I wear a scrunchy, pieced-choppy style so when applying the Super Stiff gel I scrunch my palms through my hair to get the gel to coat correctly. Let your hair air-dry or heat-style as normal. I have found that I do not need any hairspray to set my style after using the Super Stiff gel. It keeps my hair, scrunched and styled all-day and even into the night.
The smell of the Garnier Super Stiff gel is fresh with a mild citrus aroma. It is not heavy or perfume-y. Its scent does not seem to clash with other shampoos or even a scented hairspray. It does leave a sticky residue on your hands after it has been worked through the hair. A quick wash with soap and water removes this residue easily.
Garnier offers two easy style ideas on the back of the package. “The Spiker” and “The Twister.” Both styles can be easily created using the Super Stiff gel. It is recommended to finish and set the styles with a Garnier Fructis hair spray for super hold.
Like every Garnier product, the Super Stiff gel contains natural ingredients including apricot kernel and mango glycerides as well as citrus/lemon extract.
Garnier Fructis Style Super Stiff gel with fruit micro-waxes is available in the beauty aisle of most grocery stores and retailers like Walmart, Walgreens, Target and CVS. It can also be purchased online. It retails for about $4
Garnier Fructis Style Super Stiff gel is a recommended product for anyone looking to maximize a hairstyle’s hold without making it crunchy.
