Calicut International Airport is situated near Kondoty in Malapuram District. It is about 30 km from Calicut city. Calicut and Malapuram is an area in which at least one member of a family is working in the Gulf region. So there has been huge increase in the traffic in the past decade.
The Terminal Building has been Extended and modified to cater the needs of increasing traffic. It is now one of the longest single terminal building in India. The Runway has also been strengthened to be able to withstand the load of larger aircrafts.The Terminal building has all the modern facilities of a modern Airport. It is centrally Air conditioned and has lots of other passenger amenities inside it.
There are snacks bars, jewelery, Book shops, bars etc. The number of check in counters has been increased. Most modern conveyor belts have been imported and set up at the arrival hall. The whole space inside the Terminal has been decorated with natural and artificial plats and trees. Lots of paintings and sculptured resembling that of the paintings in the ancient caves of Kerala has been installed at various locations.Altogether it is a nice experience to be inside the terminal building.Pre paid Taxi stand is situated just outside the airport terminal building. Booking can be done inside the terminal building itself.
