Bad English. Review on Bad English

Bad English was an American/British hard rock band which was formed in 1988. The band consisted of John Waite on vocals, Jonathan Caine on the keyboard, Neal Schon and Ricky Phillips on guitar, and Deen Castronova on drums.

Their first album self titled, "Bad English" was released in 1989 and was highly successful. Some of their timeless hits include "Possession, " "Price of Love, " and "When I See You Smile." Unfortunately, their second album titled, "Backlash" which was released in 1991 failed to impress fans. Also competition was fierce with the new sounds of grunge, alternative rock, and rap entering the music scene.The band disbanded in 1991 and everyone went their separate ways.

Luckily, we still have their unforgettable music to hold onto. Possession: This song received extensive airplay on the radio back in 1989. The singer speaks about how he feels lost without his girl. He starts to question their relationship and doesn't know if she is seeing someone else. He feels he is losing control of the situation which has never happened before. He lets her know that she is his world and she has his heart. Every little thing reminds him of her from her lipstick stain to the smell of her perfume. You can feel the emptiness surrounding him as he describes the note that she left. When things are unclear in a relationship, all we want is "possession" of the situation. We want answers and no more mind games. John's powerful voice and instrumental background music adds security to this dark and lonely night. You can empathize with his pain and his words echoe in your mind. My favorite lyrics are, "My heart's in your world tonight. And you hold the key to my life."

Price of Love. This song reached #5 on the Top 10 list. This song is one of my favorite love ballads. A guy is confessing to his girl how sometimes he may not say the things he should or he doesn't act the way he should. He reassures her that no matter what, he will always need her. He appreciates her being there for him through both the good and bad times. This song makes you believe in the strength and beauty of love. John's sweet vocals make you feel for him as he expresses his undying gratitude. The lyrics that leave the deepest impression on me are, "Love sometimes it makes us cry. Forgive me when I get it wrong. Sometimes it's hard to be that strong. And oh, I would do anything. For you I'd turn the stars around. I'd find a way somehow."

When I See You Smile. This song reached #1 on the Top 10 list. This song is considered one of the most popular rock anthems. Just when you feel like your whole world is crumbling down, that one special person comes into your life. He or she gives you a simple and small gesture such as a smile and it makes you feel like you can conquer the world. You can do anything. A smile cannot only uplift your spirits but it can make you change your whole perspective on life. Having hope is what finally drives you home. The most inspiring lyrics are, "When I see you smile, I can face the world. You know I can do anything. When I see you smile, I see a ray of light. I see it shining right through the rain."
