Going by today's standard of Bollywood actresses, the ideal way to write this review would be to pick up five best actresses, and leave all the rest to be counted in this category. Gone are the days of the Smita Patils, Shabana Azmis, Jaya Bhaduris and Nargises. But then, being true to the category, I am going to review the worse of the worst actresses. So here goes....
Esha Deol
Hey, Amma, I too wanna do films- said her daughter.
Ok....but have your dinner first!- She answered.
This seems to be the way Esha entered films. Esha is one of those who have proved that talent is not genetic. On screen, she always seems like she has come for an outing. Hope she learns that it is the producer's money that is being spent on her, and she is expected to earn it back for him by acting good. At least do her part sincerely. But this seems to have completely skipped her mind!
KAREENA KAPOOR
I could never like this Kapoor girl. She looks yuck! I could not really see why most of the guys were raving about her when she made her debut. Her face looks like she has gulped a Philips Iron. Going by the other reviews under this category, she looks all set to collect the award for the Worst Actress Choice at Mouthshut. Well, add my vote to it!
Urmila Matondkar
I loved this little girl in Masoom. More so, because she lived in our area. And then, she made a comeback in N Chandra's Narsimha as a grown up. It was hard for me to decide as to who was worse. She or her co-star(forgot his name- the Boogie woogie guy). The following films showed that she was worse! Quite simply because her co-star knew where to stop. But Urmila has kept on torturing us with her attacks. Whatever made her think that she could establish herself as a good actress by showing her body? However, I did like her role in Satya. And guess what....she never exposed in that film. Hey Urmila...got the point?
Mamta Kulkarni
First off, I really think that this girl looks cute. But as an actress...it's another ball game, baby! There are absolutely no expressions on this doll's face. And wonder what makes her wear all those weird costumes!
Pooja Bedi
I am sure that the only film that one can remember of this girl is Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. And then there was Vishkanya. Thank you, Pooja, for realizing that acting is not your cup of...tea!
IN CONCLUSION
All in all, when we see the above names, one thing that strikes me is that today, acting is all about good physical qualities and about flaunting them. Adding the other actresses like Bipasha Basu, Shilpa Shetty and Shilpa Shirodkar to this list only confirms this observation. Just imagine, in today's world, where your body gets you acting roles, what chance would folks like Jaya Bachchan, Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi would have to make it in Bollywood? And we would have lost so many great actresses!
Who knows! We may be missing some really good talent because of this deadly trend!
P.S.- I have selected from the current crop. That does not mean that the bygone era did not have any bad actresses. Who can forget the likes of Zeenat Aman, Nanda, Mala Sinha(and her daughter now) and Asha Parekh?
