After eating quite often at a South Indian friend's place,
I thought all the Udipi restaurants were quite bogus.
But Woodlands was a complete eye-opener.
Obviously it is not your regular Udipi restaurant; it is a
much high-class Udipi restaurant.
The menu is authentically South Indian starting with the
spicy rasam.
Then there are the regular idlis, dosas, medu vadas, and
uttapas to dig in.
The place also offers South Indian thalis - quite like the
gujju thalis.
There are two varieties of rice alongwith two vegetables
and chapatti and yogurt and of course rasam.
And the regular thali is quite reasonably priced and very
filling.
In case you are not in the mood for a full meal or idlis,
my favourite on the menu is besibilli baath. It is rice
mixed with vegetables and cooked together. Quite like the
biryani only minus the oil and the spice content.
Woodlands also has an indoor (a/c) and outdoor seating. Although
I prefer to sit indoors. Outdoor is just too niosy and has
stand-fans.
For those who love cooking, Woodlands also sells the masalas.
Yet another attraction is the pan (beetle-nut leaf) one gets
while on one's way out.
A nice end to a nice not run-of-the-mill meal.
