Western Union Reviews

Muscat Oman
Untrustworthy people

I have a horrible experience with Western Union Money Transfer service.

I remitted Rs.10k on 02-12-'07 from Muscat, Sultanate of Oman to my brother's name.

My brother went to a Post Office in Kerala ( Post offices are the agents of Western Union) on 03-12-'07 evening at 04.30 pm and the Post Office staff told because of Bank strike Western Union services are not available on 03-12-'07 and 04-12-'07. On 05-12-'07 he approached the post office and after checking their system they said the money had been paid out on 03-12-'07 itself at 02.30 pm from some other agent location. He agitated with the post office staff and they asked him to inform the sender to lodge a complaint with the sender agent. I have lodged s formal complaint with the agent in Muscat , ie.M/s.Musandam Exchange Company on 05-12-'07, and they informed that they are forwarding this complaint to the Western Union office and it may take a weeks time to settle this matter. However even after 25 days no action happened from their end. Every time I call the agent they have the same reply, The complaint forwarded to M/s.Western Union and they may contact you directly.

Hence I have only one thing to say, If you are willing to take a risk on your money then you send through Western Union.

Western Union... Best for Quick Transfer...
Aug 20, 2007 01:01 PM 19748 Views

Recently I read some bad experience of people on many remitting and times money sites for money transfer. Recently after got recommendation from my friends I tried Western Union. As it was my first deal I requested for only US$500 from my Brother in US as wanted to know how fast and easy it is. My brother from US walked into nearby Western Union Office where they requested his Photo ID and SS no. with US$500.

The charges are $10 up to $500. He said $15 up to $1, 000. After filling up the form within 10 minutes they gave him one unique 10 digit number which he gave me on phone. Upon contacting nearest Western Union Office in India they asked for the CODE 10 digit. Next they requested my Photo ID which I gave them as mine was Election Card. The next thing I was having the cash in my hand within 10 minutes.(RS. 20, 200) No long long worst formalities as bank people asks.

Some Information about Western union.

  1. They provide cash up to Rs.50, 000 only. For every transaction over Rs. 50, 000/= they will give you cheque.

  2. One person can receive maximum 12 transaction per year regardless of value of each transaction.

  3. Many Western Union outlet give gift items(as I got 1 watch) for receipt of transaction.

  4. You can use the slip of receipt for your income tax purpose and it's valid doc.

  5. You can receive money from any Western Union office in your area.

  6. There are many people who have got franchisee of WU and they give you gifts and all that.

  7. The exchange rate is fixed from sender's side so make sure your sender fix the good exchange rate at his/her end. As It was my first transaction I understood all above. If anybody has different or relevant experience, comments are requested.
