With so many brands of water purifiers available, many people, except those in Tamil Nadu, and to some limited extent, in Kerala, know of a purifier called Water Doctor. It is manufactured in Coimbatore with Swiss technology. Unlike the common UV purification used in the other brands, the Water Doctor uses Ozone as the purifying agent. I have a wall mounted In-line model of 5 litre capacity called Varun. It has an independent pre-filter containing activated charcoal. This pre-filter removes sediments and solids.
The charcoal removes odours, including, to a very great extent, the smell of chlorine. The main filter has a storage tank of 5 litres. It has 3 warning lights viz. 2 reds and 1 green. One red light comes on if the Intake air drier needs attention.(Basically a container of coloured silica gel which changes colour if there is too much moisture in the gel). You need to call for service then or, if you know how, you can heat the silica gel to remove the moisture, reset the switches and everything is fine. The second red light comes on while the purifier is re-filling or purifying the water. The thirs, a green light comes on when purified water is available from the outlet. When you first switch the filter on the tank is filled up. Once the tank is full, the ozone generator comes on and circulates ozone in the water.
This takes about 2-3 minutes.During this time water is not available off the outlet.Once the purification cycle is completed, the green light comes on and you can draw purified water from the outlet.A special feature is: in case you don't draw any water, after a set time, the purifying cycle starts up again to ensure that the water is actually pure. This safety feature ensures that under no circumstances will you draw un-purified water. If the purifier cannot make safe water available for any reason all the lights start flashing and the water will not flow through the outlet. You cannot make it safer than that. I have been using the Water Doctor for 7 years now, and except for very minor problems, it has been going strong.
The only problem is due to logistics the after sales service is a bit delayed. But it is slowly improving. There are several models available including a table top model, one with a compressor, another with a heater. If anybody is tempted to comment that it seems like this reviewer is in someway connected to the manufacturer, please refrain. I have only reviewed a product which in my personal view is far superior to all the stuff being churned out by other companies.
