Nice concept but average
Nov 09, 2017 08:35 PM 924 Views (via Android App)

Me and my friend was gone yesterday to see this movie. It was an average film. The movie villain's trailer give us more expectations but the movie is not much impresaive. In the movie there is a big message to us that in every villain there is a hero and in every hero there is a villain. The merits of this film was, it was a family enjoyable film. We would enjoy this film with our family's too. Thank you

Commercial Entertainer, technically one step ahead

Ultimate Star Ajith Kumar has finally done it this year. He has broken his jinx at the box office with his latest offering Villan. Some crirtics have labelled this movie as an overdose of masala and even blamed the director K.S.Ravikumar for exposing Kiran too much, but these people where appreciating another movie in the same genre which was a huge hit with the fans and that was Gemini.

Coming back to Villan, the story is about the twins, who run away from their home on hearing the fate of one of them. One of the twins is a bit mentally retarded and he is Vishnu while the other one who looks after him is Shiva. Shiva takes care of Vishnu all the way and one day Vishnu is bashed by the film's villan Fefsi Vijayan who breaks his hands and legs. Somehow Shiva brings up Vishnu with the help of Sujatha who happens to be the caretaker of an ashram.

To help all the needy and the handicapped, big brother Shiva decides to loot from the corrupt and we are taken for a joy ride filled with some interesting comedy which forms a part of the screenplay. Ramesh Kanna, Meena, Crane Manohar and Vasu Vikram help Shiva to loot. Shiva is a bus conductor and Ramesh Kanna is the bus driver. Kiran falls for Shiva after a small bash and all those scenes are enjoyable. Meena sacrifices her love for Kiran and in the end gets Vishnu.

All the stars have done their part, while Ajith Kumar as the twins has stolen the entire show. He is brilliant as the handicapped cum mentally retarded and equally good in comedy with Karunas. The police men add more insult to Karunas. In the cilmax the twins save the Children and Kiran from the Villan which is a welcome addition to the screenplay. The story is written by Yugi Sethu which may sound old but the screenplay by Ravikumar has made it look fresh and appealing.

Songs are a delight to watch in the screen and they add a huge punch to the movie's fortune in the box office. Choreography is nice while we have to praise the work done by the stunt director Kanal Kannan. All the stunts are breathtaking and the camera by Ashok and Murthy is first class. Vidyasagar has done his part in the background score and the movie moves in a rapid pace. Sabu Cyril silently steals the show among the technicians with his stunning sets in the movie and in the songs.

Villan is an out and out commercial movie which definetly raises the box office collections and the star value of the ultimate star. While some still cringe that movie is full of masala, what if the movie was a bit more clean and failed at the box office would these critics bail out the producer. The need of the hour in Kollywood now is box office blockbusters and Villan is one among them.

APPLAUSE : Ajith Kumar, Ajith Kumar and screenplay.

AHEM! : Climax a bit too long.

VERDICT : Commercial Entertainer, technically one step ahead in Camera and Stunts.

VILLIAN TO CRITIC....HERO TO FAN
Jan 07, 2003 09:53 PM 5613 Views

It is yet another film, that may find the critic and fan at different extremes on the film.VILLIAN is another masterpiece by K.S.Ravikumar,the king of masala movies and he uses his power to nullify the flaws with an energetic screenplay. The man who benefits is Ajith, who has been searching for a hit for a long long time.As for Meena,it is one more hit in which she hadnt a telling role.Another major success factor in the film is KIRAN Rathod and her non stop glamour. In the three hours, there is a basic storyline and you add glamour, humour, stunts, dialogues and songs in a good proportion,U get something like Villian.

The plot(couteosy galatta.com) goes like this.It is Kollywood's version of Robinhood and the thieves. While Robinhood uses other disguises (did he?) our hero uses the disguise of his twin brother. Ajith plays the role of the bus conductor with ease but he wins the appreciation of all fans beyond all prejudices when he mimics the mentally challenged Ajith. He has done justice to both his roles, as the bus conductor and the mentally retarded twin. The movie recoils back to the story of two twins leaving their home. The elder among the twins Shiva leaves home with his mentally retarded young brother Vishnu when he comes to know his parents decision to do away with his brother. In the city while he is away to work, antisocial elements break Shiva's leg and force him to beg on the streets. Realizing that he can't protect his brother he leaves him in an institution run by Sujatha. He grows up keeping in mind to take revenge on Fefsi Vijayan who made his brother handicapped for life. Shiva grows up to become a bus conductor. During the night he becomes this Robinhood who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. With the help of Meena (who develops a soft corner for Ajith), Ramesh Khanna and a few trustworthy friends he carries out his nightly good deeds. Each time he gets caught in the police he acts as a mentally retarded person. Meanwhile Kiran a college student falls in love with Ajith. He finds to his shock that Kiran is the sister-in-law of the villain who made his brother Vishnu a handicap. The film ends with Ajith scheming his plans to tear the veil off Fefsi Vijayan's face and expose his villainy and with what happens to Meena's and Kiran's love for Ajith.

Ajith has put lots of effort, and he suits the role to a T.No cast is more suitable than Kiran, and her gain with the film is mutual.Meena does a decent job, excluding her hot dance with Kiran.Ramesh Khanna and the sub cast perform as desired, and the noteable person is Karunas. The former pop singer has excellently graduated as a comedian, and promises an exciting fare for the future.Pepsi Vijayan is Just OK.

Vidhyasgar continues his busy and hit run in Tamil Cinema. The numbers are popular, especially ''Adhicha'',thanks to the dance master and TV Promos. The other crew are also wonderful, the camera man, stunt master, and all others.Kudos to Kirans dubbing artiste. You cant blame the crew.

There are situations and consepts, which may fail logicaly.Your tender heart may question at the unshaby portayal of college girls and the mock at motherhood, but you can not expect that from a Masala Movie. In one line,a film that entertaines you well for the three hours, and has no reason to stay in your heart or memory, for a long time.As a fan,I would ask you to enjoy the film.As a critic,I would ask you to stay away for the sake of quality films.

The Real Hero
Jan 06, 2003 11:28 PM 2541 Views

VILLAIN the real hero was a great entertainer for all class of auidience. Ajith starring with meena and the one and only kiran. A very good opening for Ajith and later we have to search for story in the film. But SONGS,STUNT,SENTIMENT,

SCREEN PLAY helped the SHIP to reach the HARBOUR.

Ajith playing a dual role, the one is a part-time conductor and the other one is a handicapped person. In short the film is (25%GENTLEMAN,25%GLAMOUR,25%AJITH) the remaining 25% is for you to satisfy yoursef that you have watched a film.As far the two heroines is concerned KIRAN the major cntributor(!) and little room for meena to show her excellence.

Some comedy scences are good but something is lacking

The director uesd his usual success formula and indeed he succeded. Vidyasagar was'nt fully exploited but not bad. The good thing for Ajith in this film is that he stopped his HEROISM DIALOUGE'S which he continued in his previous films(is this the reason for success?).And finally in the diwali releases this film is defenetly a WANTED BOY for the distributers and PET BOY for the producer.
