Vagdevi Vilas School, Bangalore Reviews

Unless you hate your child, don't put them in this
Mar 07, 2016 01:33 AM 39376 Views (via Mobile)

I am an ex student of the Varthur branch.

I am not originally from Bangalore from but Bombay. And I had the most harrowing experience a student can go through. I face a lot of bullying from not just the students(which stopped over time due to my indifference towards my bullies and finding a friend who went through the similar experience) but also from the Teaching staff. They alomst made it a point to make me feel like an outside(and their belief that I am automatically a delinquent because I am from mumbai)

Teachers and the staff than teaching and remaining in there professional boundaries would poke their nose into the personal lives of the students, interfere and gossip about it in the staff room.

They also enforce disgustingly conservative gender roles. I would most ofent than not be on the receiving end of harsh treatment from the teacher for talking cordially with the other Sex.

Things like sex-ed, gender equality(recognising lgbt), crimes against women etc left our teachers blushing and making the subject a taboo aming students.

Again and again re-enforcing NOT indian culture BUT the Hindu religion.

Being from a family where both Hinduism and Islam was professed, I was often left out of palce in rituals I never had to take part in& forgotten on Eid.

For my liberal upbringing my morals were often questioned.

I am going through the trouble of posting this as I don't want any other child to suffer ther way I did. Please, do go and look for other better schools even of it means to hold back your child for a year.

Better that, than put your child in this school.

Need real feedback on VVS-M??
Sep 11, 2014 09:24 PM 73220 Views

  • Principal is so arrogant & don't know how to talk to a parents. Thinks that entire education ministry is under her control.

  • They increase the fees 25 - 30% y-o-y without any reason. This is pathetic.

  • Very sub standard teachers. Teachers don't have any control on kids. Name sake teachers are finishing subjects.

  • Transport is another nightmare. Response from transport dept is "If you want, take it. We are not asking you to take the transport".

  • Many kids are standing in the bus & teachers are sitting comfortably.

  • Uniform is another day light robbery. They force you to buy & quality is very bad.

  • They claim 100% or high pass percentage in 10 standard. But, scoring percentage were very less.

  • Rest rooms are in very bad shape. No cleaning at all.

  • Not even worth to rate single star for this school.

Worst school ever
Jun 27, 2014 04:47 PM 74063 Views

This just has to be the worst school ever.We were taken in by the smooth talk, emphasis on Indian culture, etc. That much was true.

Nothing else fits the description of a good school.

  1. Some teachers(in both my children's experiences) are vengeful. They take revenge on the children for even the silliest of feedback that I provided(like, there seems to be a heavy load on the child even in UKG.and this was not even a personal comment). They resorted to knocking my child on the head. In my son's class, the Hindi teacher was throwing the duster(yes, a big wooden one) and chalk pieces at the naughty ones and in my daughter's class, she showed her temper by throwing the child's book at her face.

  2. Half the things are not taught until the last minute. Even so, the text books are not sent home on time and the child really has no way to prepare for the exams.

3.In any case, what the children ARE taught, seems to be incomplete/insufficient. We felt the difference even more so, after moving them to a much better school. For example, in the first standard, they were only taught the Hindi vowels(a to aha) and the basic ka to gya, but none of the matras. Yet, the CBSE second standard textbooks, vagdevi or otherwise, all require knowledge of the matras in the second standard.

  1. The teachers are not sufficiently qualified to be teachers. Their grasp of any of the subjects, may, in some cases especially mine, be questionable.

  2. The headmistress does not set a good example. Sometimes, she yells in the assembly threatening students of dire consequences, in plain view!

  3. In my son's second standard, almost all the Physical education classes were usurped by his class teacher to teach something or the other, which she was unable to complete otherwise.

  4. Saturday Classes! And all that the children did on Saturdays was play in the class. Never understood why they needed Saturday classes where they taught nothing.

  5. In my children's case, the teacher was biased and tried her best to bring them down - by passing derogatory comments in the classroom, by putting their honest efforts down though negative talk, etc.

Yes, its cheaper than other schools in this locality. And the quality(rather the lack of it) shows very clearly.

Please don't kill your child's future by putting her/him here.

Jun 24, 2014 09:49 PM 72859 Views

Want to know the methodology used by VVS-V, for I STD, first time, first term they request student to  write Q&A. is this CBSC methodology or State board methodology? This week we got letter from VVS-V management for the special class of 1 hr session will be  conducted and its charged. We would like to know if teacher can coach children in one hr then what is the need to spend 4 hrs in school? We would like to know what teachers are doing during class hrs?

Very good school for average and above average kid
Jul 28, 2013 05:53 AM 26748 Views

Zero tolerance on slow learners with a worst student teacher ratio. In my son's class there were about 35 kids with the main teacher always helping kids to rut the syllabus.

Their paper work is generally high, that they are bogged down with correction work, diary writing etc almost every day.

The assistant teach is mostly worth nothing, but undergoing training in the school to get a job here the next year.

While the teachers give good quality time to give feedback on kids, they show their helplessness to support the kid - which is mainly due to the ratio maintained.

They themselves propose to send kids to tuition to cover up for their incapability.

My both kids(2nd and Nur) are studying at Vagdevi vilas school, varthur.  All syllabus is very well covered and I can see that my kids learning curve is good. I can't comment on the higher standards as I don't have exposure to that level.

As a parent, if you are struggling to put your child in a cultural school with good academic learning curve, just put them in Vagdevi.

Harsh approach from the admission office
Mar 28, 2013 03:17 PM 27934 Views

I had got admission from my kid in this school for this academic year. The school has collected Rs.41, 500 as the first term fees and for admission. Due to some personal reasons I had to cancel the admission. When I gave the request for cancellation and refund of the fees paid they are informing me that at the time of getting admission itself i  have agreed not to ask for the refund of fees in any circumstances.

Giving education is a service. And now they are charging me for a service which hasnt been provided.  The excuse what they are provided that its  printed in the fees receipts that there wont be any refund is childish. And they way how they tells is that we are doing some thing wrong,

With these kind of attitude it  doesn't suit to be called a school run by some trust. this is business and they main aim to get money nothing else.

I am planning to file case in consumer court  for this. I cant just allow my hard earned money to go in waste to these business people

I like Vagdevi
Nov 21, 2012 09:45 AM 26877 Views

My daughter is 5 years old. Before Vagdevi she studiked in 2 different schools , she always used to cry. But when I put her in Vagdevi, she started liking to go to school. She is in montessori. As a parent I observe that here communication has been improved, she likes to involve in other activities.

  1. I was very happy to see her dancing in the school annual day program. I know about my daughter that she had stage fear, but in that annual they trained so nicely. her performance is good.

  2. Another day she got stomach pain and the teacher informed all the details in the diary and also she tried calling me. they showing care to the kids.

  3. I complained about the transport that for some negligence and immediately transport department has changed the incharge.

As of now I dont have any issues. I recommend Vagdevi

Commericial School In bang-- Vagdevi Villas school
Oct 30, 2012 11:53 AM 27618 Views

Vagdevi school is one of the worst school in Bangalore. I had a bad experience with this school. Please parents before joining in to this school please think once. Because in the school study's are less and not qualified teaches at all and moreover other activities are more. If you have more money to effort for other activities then you can go ahead. there everything is related to money.

Example: every year they are celebrating "Kala Ustav". forgot about your child participant you should pay the money to conducting the Ustav. They are celebrating these type of Ustavs to gathering the money from the Parents. it  is a small example how they are more concern about the money.

Vagdevi villas school is a one of the Commercial School in the Bangalore.

The best school

Its a very good school. They teach a lot of good things. And I like it a lot. The teachers of vagdevi are very kind. The school has so much population. The chairman Mr. sri k.harish is a kind and a great man.

Transport can be improved.
Jul 09, 2012 11:55 AM 27447 Views

The transport services are poorly managed. There are around 60 kids in those vans having seating capacity of 43.No information is provided regarding a new bus or route even when the crowd is so high. Not sure if the Transport rules are actually followed.

The kids are standing and going. When asked about the same to the Principal of the school, the response is not very convincing and more than that she hardly knows how to interact with the Parents of the school. When asked that its more than a month, her reply was like if you want to continue in the transport services you can or else you can withdraw right away.

Not sure about the safety of the kids in these vans..!!!!

Hope the management takes some good steps before the name of the school is completely ruined.

Not a good place for education
May 05, 2012 04:29 PM 25828 Views

Not a best place for education or career. If someone needs their wards to learn playing politics- may be the best place, as the child observes the live politics between various staff, middle management & management. Finally it is utter waste of time & money in education and career. Unqualified ones are placed at the top with hefty salary just to time pass by creating mess and those who pamper these unqualified ones are given best teacher award by the management itself and the management is very much aware of this. Complaining or commenting else where is worthless.Just because of this qualified ones are quitting and only our wards are the real end sufferers.

Only the CBSE board and parents should induct strict rules with regard to the qualities, experience & qualification for particular responsible positions in the school, not according to the taste of the management. Child's education and uplift is a particular concern  for what the parents dream, desire & aspire, and pay in terms of fee.

Not trained teachers
Jul 10, 2011 05:58 AM 28609 Views

I would never recommend this school for anyone, because of the poor quality of teachers, forget about their teaching they don't know how to handle the kids, surprisingly from my kid I found that his teacher will never smile, and taking class like virus in3 idiots movie seems.

And always giving punishments to the kids, making them to sit on the floor, standing by raising their hands, slapping on the face and body etc... etc..always shouting and teaching. the intake is also very high they are taking more than 30-35 kids in 1 class, without proper sitting place , in a small table  they make 3 students to sit and do the studies.

I totally agree with the other reviews and not recommending this school for anyone.

Apr 03, 2011 02:57 AM 26012 Views

According to my personnel experience this school is becoming worst and worster and worstest. In three years back it was good after that it started roting now. Please for the god sake dont admit your childrens to this school.

Every thing is bad here, simply they charge too much and then there is single rupee worth admitting your child. All teachers are very very pessimistic and saddists. They play a role of saddist on nuersery school, montessary school childrens.

Vagdevi is value for money
Dec 08, 2010 01:12 PM 25116 Views

My son is studying in vagdevi.i am completely satisfied with the school.the school has the best infrastructure..better than those schools which claims of ac class rooms etc.

Also the school has started the route alert mechanism by which parents are informed before the pick up and drop. I was told one of the international school charges 3k for this alert alone.

My son has learnt lot of shlokas..and good practices.the teachers are very approachable and very gentle.

I will recommend this school for everyone.

Good on Culture; Bad on academics;Very bad admin
Mar 05, 2010 01:58 PM 26320 Views

I felt very happy when my children started reciting Bhagavat geeta within 3 months of joining. I give 10/10 points in this aspect. But the academics are not up to the mark. They were also taught good messages in the assembly with short stories.

The assembly is good but it is for long duration. I have seen kids suffering under the sun and fainting. Harish should consider having some roof.Their Diary is amazingly designed with lot of info. But the teacher's communication to the parents thru' the diary is very poor.

I feel that they should consider appointing good quality teachers.Their computer teachers are not good. I have see several times that my kid and her classmate prefer to stay home and study and score rather than going to school.

Good School to depend on
Feb 09, 2010 05:56 PM 23855 Views

Looks like all reviews are describing the one off the case or misunderstanding about the management and school.

We are really happy to say that my daughter in class 5 improved a lot after moving her from other school in Brookfields. School teacher was so encouraging that she makes her happy in at least one of the aspect (like punctuality, or discipline etc) whenever she scores less marks in exams. This motivation use to boost her studies. I liked her approach.

We always see smiley face in staff (receptionist to class teacher) whenever we go to school. This attitude makes parents to speak up their concerns. School management call parents if child is not attending the extracurricular classes like drawing, painting etc as part of Kalamamdira (not mandatory as part of CBSE recommended curriculum) to find out the reasons.

I loved the culture taught in the school. No fancy uniform like Blazers, Ties etc. They ask all girl students to wear Ribbon (which my sister use to wear during her school days). I have watched prayer several times in this year. They allow students to perform in every day prayer. They allocate the day to all sections by rotation.

I liked school activities. They invite eminent scholars for special events. Eg: They have inviter Olympic swimmer for sports meet. They have invited Dr. Kasthuru Rangam for science day. Children require speeches from such eminent scholars to get motivated.

Buses are not crowded. It was the case during June. Later they bought new busses and now children can sit freely. They operate busses for all events that are organized outside school premises or late hours.

Over all this school is pretty good in the Mathahalli area.
