U Me aur Hum Songs Movie Reviews

Jersey City United States of America
Bollywood movie review - U, Me, Aur Hum (2008)
Apr 15, 2008 11:40 PM 1756 Views

 §         Director: Ajay Devgan

§         Starring: Ajay Devgan, Kajol

§         Released: 11 April, 2008

A complete disaster…In his directorial debut, Ajay Devgan not only killed his serious action star appeal but also ruined the established charm & charisma of his talented wife Kajol. Well even if I want to be lenient for Ajay and like millions, I like Kajol for her acting capability but still, I must admit that this movie will sure ruin your evening completely. Truth be told.

Sorry to say, Ajay & Kajol – a dynamic couple of Bollywood, really could not deliver the magic in their latest home production in film - U, Me, Aur Hum.

.

Ajay Devgan & Kajol both trying hard, infact too much to impress. So much so that more than 60% of the film has close-up of Ajay & Kajol. Imagine the impact of close-up shots throughout this movie of this aging couple. It is a recipe of disaster and so was the movie. In some of the scenes, you really would want to run away from the theatre.

Kajol is from a reasonably rich background and was raised in New Jersey(USA). The funny part is that she ends up becoming a waitress in star cruise where she meets, so called smart & dashing(of course it’s a joke), psychiatrist doctor Ajay. It is a love at first sight. The movie takes an ugly turn as Kajol(Pia in the film) suddenly develops Alzheimer’s and she begins to forget all that matters in her life The only consolation in the film are friends of Ajay & Kajol.  Music was boring with most of the audience failing to understand the lyrics and had to read the subtitles!.

To summarize, it’s a pathetic movie. It drags so much that you really start to feel, why I spoiled my Friday evening…what a boring start to a weekend!.  If you are a hard core Ajay-Kajol fan, then you may want to see this movie, but I would not rate it more than 2 on 5 stars.

Cheers!

++ Of U Me aur HUMminG NumBer ++
Apr 07, 2008 11:10 AM 3022 Views

“U” “Me” and “Hum” aren’t those three beautiful words, which reminds us about “Love” and “Bonding”? To me it always does that’s the reason “U Me aur Hum” caught my eyes sometime back while browsing through a film magazine (which I rarely do). I desperately waited for it to release, another reason being Ajay Devgan's directorial debut. Ajay has been a sincere actor but his past record as a producer has been pathetic. He still took a chance of direction and we all should appreciate because India is a democratic country and everyone has rights to try. As of now the film music is already on air and almost on every third channel they are showing the promo. Let me be honest the launch teaser was very refreshing. White Birds, White Ship, white dresses and this time even Ajay and Kajol has also managed to look a little white (fair) in the movie promo. The tinge of white makes the movie look very fresh.  But that doesn’t guarantee the music to be fresh too. Hear it to understand what I actually meant.

Let’s get down to track by track analysis of the movie to get more insight on Ajay’s first ever directorial film:

Dil Dhakda Hai : “Dhakda” no “Dhadka” .

The lyric goes “pehli baar huya aisa dhadka nahi dil dhakda hain”. Now don’t ask me what “Dhakda” means, you can sms it directly to Mr. Lyricist to get clarity on the word. Lyrics are more like a Jugal-bandi or a nok-jhok session between the boy and the gal. Some lines sounds catchy like “Dil mai dene aaya hu – taang do usi khooti pe – Kwaab main hi aa jao – raat pe hu duty pe” but then rhyming doesn’t go for long and it boils down to pretty pointless wordings as well. Singers Adnan sami along with Shreya have performed the jugal-bandi very well. Shreya’s sounds a little different (sensuous to be specific) in the song. Rating: Lyrics 3/5: Music 4/5: Singer 3/5; Mood: Marriages’, College Function or as a background music when you’re not listening. Appeal: Masses or certain percentage of classes as well.

‘Jee le’: Welcome to Salsa

Yup ! You guessed it right. Close your eyes let the music play you will slowly find yourself moving the salsa or meringue way. Latin or Spanish style music or you can say tango types which can surely push you to the dance floor. But I would still accolade Adnan, Shreya for crooning it sophistically and Vishal for creating the right kind of leg tapping music. The lyrics needs to be appreciated too it makes some sense and give the “romance in the air” feel.  An added remix of this number would have done justice to the song and would have made it a complete discotheque number.- Rating: Lyrics 4/5: Music 4/5: Singer 4/5 - Mood: Fun, Party, Cruise.- Appeal: Masses and classes both.

‘Phatte Chak Dete hain’: Not Really

“Bade bade ko ghuma ke rakh de, Din main sitare dikha ke rakh de” you can truly see stars in the morning because when you hear this one you will wonder “whats this all about”. It’s neither a bhangra which can “chak de” your mood, neither a soul mesmerizing number. Gist of the song is basically another nok- jhok session but singers (Adnan and Sunidhi) and even our loving Vishal has failed to create any feeling. Adnan sounds BAD; sunidhi is still better but not great. Lyrics probably have been written keeping in mind the situation but I don’t know if we should blame Mr. Lyricist for failure of the song. Rating: Lyrics 2/5: Music 1/5: Singer’s 2/5 (for Sunidhi only); Mood: Time pass (if you just need some noise in the background) Appeal: Still wondering

“Saiyaan”: Anything wrong Mr. Lyricist?

Even if you put a gun on my head to write such lyrics, I would choose being dead. I use to wonder always after watching some of the movies that “do directors watch these before releasing?” if yes how can they do such blunders knowingly. I have the same question for Mr. Dhimaan. Does Vishal have a choice of saying “NO” to direct some bad lyrics?” and “I always thought Sunidhi has some good taste in terms of choosing which one to sing”. The opening line itself will make you faint “maine to manga tha saheli jaisa saiyaan”(But I asked for a lover who’d be like a girlfriend,) and when you actually start digesting the song somehow, It stops halfway probably they realized that what crap they have created. One last piece of advice, keep your kids away from this song, it’s catchy and you might hate hearing your kids singing this.  Woof! Rating: I choose on to rate; Mood: No Comments; Appeal: I still believe our audiences have something called “good taste”

“U, Me Aur Hum” 1: Finally the Saviour

Its morning and you still in the bed.. lazing away the time, waiting for the morning “forehead peck” from your beloved … Or a quite evening just before the sunset holding your better half gazing to the sunset. Yes, this number will be the perfect background music for such moments. Finally you have the savior of this music album. A soft melodious humming number crooned well by Shreya’s and it mesmerize you completely. At times it might remind you of music from “Machis” and “Sunset Point” but still you will just fall in love listening to this one. For lyrics, I would say only one thing “meaningful” and right kind of words. The lyrics in english acts as a garnishing for the song. Rating: Lyrics 5/5: Music 5/5: Singer 5/5; Mood: Romantic, Cuddling and Hugging: Appeal: Classes for sure.

“U, Me Aur Hum” 2: Finally the Toast

Vishal finally deduced what we actually expect from him. He picks a guitar and sings this one himself the huskiness in his voice might not equivalent to Atif’s but still can steal the heart of the gals. I would again mention about the lyricist “Munna Dhiman” who has chosen beautiful words which makes you fall into love over and again. Sing this one for you gal if you have a good voice “I bet” she is all yours. The duo has done more then justice to this one and it’s worth applause. Rating: Lyrics 5/5: Music 5/5: Singer 5/5; Mood: Budding Love, Candlelight or a Ball dance. Appeal: Classes.

Vishal Bhardawaj is my personal favorite whether it’s Music or Movies directed by him. Since Ajay hasn’t given any scope of directing the movie I believe Vishal has concentrated well on the music except two of the number. Our lyricist Munna Dhiman fails badly in three out of six songs, which isn’t a great work. I hope he realize that he is still in the phase of proving his talent with movies like Ramji London wale; Nisabd, One two three, He still has a far way to go.

Overall with only three out of six songs being good, I would rate it as an average album with only 2.5 rating but title tracks should not be missed. Audience might not remember it for more then three months because they are not catchy at all. I hope ajay would have taken care of rest of the areas in the movies because music is for sure will not fetch him any money.

Film: U, Me Aur Hum

Music Director: Vishal Bharadwaj

Lyricist: Munna Dhimaan

Singers: Sunidhi Chauhan, Adnan Sami, Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Bharadwaj

P.S : My Actual Rating 2.5 Stars
