Far Far away there is a place in the north eastern part of India which is known as Tripura. One of the seven states in north-east India, its bounded on the north, west, south and south-east by Bangladesh and shares a common boundary with Assam and Mizoram in the east. According to one vision the name Tripura came from its presiding deity of the land Mata Tripura Sundari which is also famous as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. Another school of thought believes that the name came from the kokborok word “Tuipura” which means –a land adjacent to water as the ancient Land of Tripura was extended upto Bay of Bengal when its ruler held Garo Hill to Arakan.
Tripura always mesmerizes the world with its Rich culture & heritage. This small state is not only special because it’s the third smallest state of our country after Goa and Sikkim but also it’s the most unappreciated one. It has every thing what a place can ask for bio-diversity, heavy rainfall, hills, and cascade. Its forest is gifted with a wide range of exotic flora and fauna.
The rich picturesque beauty, tranquility makes it a perfect destination for the vacationer. Within its small geographical area , Tripura offers plenty of attractions for the tourists in the form of magnificent palaces ( Ujjayanta Palace and Kunjaban Palace and Neermahal - Lake Palace at Melaghar ), splendid rock-cut carvings and stone images ( Unakoti, Debtamura and Pilak), important temples of Hindus and Buddhists including the famous Budha Mandir, Laxmi Narayana mandir, the beautiful hill station of Jampui hill bordering Mizoram, wild life sanctuaries at Sepahijala, Rowa and Trishna.
The rich cultural legacy of Tribal, Bengali and Manipuri communities residing in the state make the state a sheer ecstasy. Tripura always allures the world with its undisputed cultural and literary alliance with several celebrated names like Rabindranath Tagore, Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose. The legendary musicians like S.D. Barman and his son Rahul Dev Barman (R.D. Barman), hailed from the State. Tripura is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse state in India. But its miscellany hardly helps its cost-effectiveness. Absence of railway affects tourism badly. It’s still economically backward and hardly socially developed one. Economic development of the state needs help from the centre to accelerate and thus create conditions favorable to peace & prosperity. It has been facing the batter of terrorism for the last two decades.
The extended international border and the hostile topography in many parts aid smuggling, border crime, infiltration and free movement of extremists to their hideouts in Bangladesh. High influx of Reang refugees of Mizoram camping in North Tripura is a very old and pressing issue. Their presence in Tripura has become a rising social problem adversely impacting on the society and the forest. Their presence also has created insurgency amongst the common man. Guns and Power alone can’t win the battle against terrorism. Socio-economic development is the only key solution to this problem. With the each passing day it has become more and more evident that our centre is clueless how to deal with the widespread problem of north-east states
.
Maybe one of the many reasons is that, this part of the nation hardly gets its share of publicity. Media is not even aware of the actual problem of this area. Terrorism is not only the sole reason for the plight of Tripura. It has every ingredient which is needed for a developed state. But only requirements are infrastructure and proper execution on the government’s part. Centre should support state government in its venture to develop the infrastructure and telecommunication network. If proper and willing steps are taken by the government then it’s not at all impossible that we will find a new improved Tripura very soon. As it will be perfect per se.
