My review is about Value Added Services(VAS) provided by companies like 53030, 51818, 56070, 575758.
I am using reliance GSM prepaid mobile connection, Mumbai Circle and had subscribed to SMS News Alerts of Star News & IBN Live.com.
To subscribe I had to send an SMS. I sent SMS on 11-1-2010 "IBNSUB" to 51818 and immediately I was charged Rs 3. Around 14 days passed and no single sms with respect to news was sent. I wrote a feedback on ibnlive.com site also but no response. Similarly I had subscribed to star news sms alerts.
I sent StarN to 53030 and immediately they charged Rs 30. Had registered on 20-1-2010 and not a single sms news alert received.
Finally I unsubscribed to both of them today on 23-1-2010. When I sent unsubscription SMS to 51818 I was again charged Rs 3 whereas I wasn't charged in case of 53030. I even wrote to one97word.com(53030) who provide SMS News alert on behalf of Star News but no reply. I've even written to reliance services assurance cell but no reply yet. I've sent one more email today to reliance services assurance cell asking them questions before finally unsubscribing. I am waiting for reliance's service assurance cell reply.
The worst part is the news channels, IBNLive.com and StarNews.com don't have any information as to whom to contact incase you are not receiving SMS news alerts and how much you will be charged. Initially you will get the impression that the SMS News Alerts are free. But I request that please don't be in a haste to subscribe.
Next western railway and central railway had started free SMS updates regarding scheduling & rescheduling of local trains, long distance trains and mega blocks. I had subscribed to both the services and just received the SMS on the day of subscription i.e. on 9-1-2010. Thereafter no SMS is sent. My sister is using MTNL prepaid connection and she regularly gets updates. Now again I am wondering as to whose fault it is - Reliance or 56070 & 575758.
