Format Your Hard Disk Drive to Install a New OS
May 01, 2021 01:48 PM 491 Views (via Android App)

Majority of computer users around different parts of the world use or prefer Windows Operating System( OS) based computers or laptops. So definitely here I'll only talk formatting an internal Hard Disk for Windows based computers only. You can follow my steps to easily format your hard disk.

  1. The first and foremost things to do before formatting hard disk is to back up all the existing important data or files to an external stirage drives. After that you can proceed for formatting.

  2. The first step towards formatting is to choose the right file system of your computer whether it's NTFS or FAT32. You need to set the file system on your bootable USB drive or boot CD/DVD. Bootable USB can easily be made using a software like Rufus and CD/DVD can be made using PowerISO. If you want to format only the 'C Drive' or system drive, then NTFS system should be selected. FAT32 file system has become older now. It will help you keeping existing Windows files so that you can downgrade when you want.

  3. So first insert your bootable USB or CD/DVD on your computer and then restart it. During the restart, press many times your computer boot key to open bootloader and boot from USB or CD/DVD.

  4. After selecting the bootable USB or CD/DVD, press 'ENTER' key to go to setup and format your hard disk. If you want to fully format yourhard disk then format all the drives including C, D, E, F etc. If you want to format just C drive then select only C to format and never touch rest of the drives.

  5. After selecting format, wait for the time until your computer completes the formatting process successfully. Never press unnecessay key or turn the power iff during the process. Interrupting the process will lead to unsuccessful formatting or even damage the sytem. After completiing the formatting process, install the desired Operating System of your choice.

That's all you need to know about formatting HDD
Jun 07, 2017 10:07 PM 1419 Views

Well it depends on use .

For example: if you are going to use hard drive on Macintosh you can format it on Exfat file system Fat 32 file system. Macintosh does not support NTFS file system so windows based formatted hard drive will not work on macintosh.

If you are going to use hard drive for using it on you smart phone you have to format it on FAT32 file system as android only supports FAT32 for external storage .

If you are going to use hard drive on windows based PC you can format hard drive on NTFS based file system.

If you want to use your hard drive for all of the android, macintosh, windows, linux, consider formatting it on FAT32 file system because almost all operating syatem support fat32 based file system.

there are various tools available on the internet and they are free too.

Minitool Drive Partition Tool is one of them and is good if you want to create different drives out of one hard drive.

Feb 26, 2017 08:41 AM 1980 Views

There are several tools available in the market, most are open source freeware as well. when it comes to formatting disk there are two kinds

Low level and High level.

the cmd command prompt "format" and several easy fat utilities are low level formats cnad changes onlt the FAT tabe( Fat table is like index of a book) FAT table tells the drive which data is placed where and so on.

format command recreated FAT( File allocation Table) . In case some one has used format command there are stillw ays to recover your data with conditions aply. I have done that, I had used Symatec data recovery which recovered around 99% data from a fromatted disk.

If a Disk is low lvele formatted YOU CAN't Recover good amount of data. a low leve is something like going to factory defaults.

for easy formatting you can use Tokiwa formatter, PArtition wizard, HP/EMC2 Disk partitioner

Many people format the HDD with use of command prompt, and other tools but before format the drive we need to know that what the actual condition of the HDD.I am an computer engineer and I experienced it that which type of format will  be needed for HDD. Many people said that FAT32 format is good or NTFS format is good, no that is the only partition type nothing else . IN actual Hard disk stored data in sectors and if there is any kind of bad sectors in it that is cause of problem in it. So during formatting bad sectors need to be removed or repaired . For this we can use windows 98 CD to format the HDD this is the old way but secure and great another one is use Low Level format tool that is freely available on the internet and and it format low level sectors of HDD that is great thing. I have given link of that software use it https://downloadsafe.org/file/a6d85P

I was recently trying to format my 1 TB MyBook external hard drive in Windows XP to FAT32 instead of the overly forced-upon NTFS format. Why? Well because I needed to connect it to a NAS device and the NTFS permissions were causing the NAS not to be able to access the drive. Simple solution is to use FAT32, no security, no problems. Though it’s sometimes useful to format a USB drive in NTFS format.

Format using DOS

Open a command window by going to Start, then Run and typing in CMD.

There seems to also be an issue when using the command line besides the size limit problem. Namely, it can take forever to format the hard drive for some users. Not sure why, but I’ve seen it enough times and it can be very frustrating to wait 5 hours and then have the whole format fail. If the format is taking longer than an hour, just cancel it and try one of the methods below first. Now type in the following command at the prompt:

format /FS:FAT32 X:

Replace the letter X with the letter of your external hard drive in Windows. Windows will go ahead and begin formatting the drive in FAT32!

FORMATTING HARD DISK
Jun 12, 2016 09:39 PM 3823 Views (via Mobile)

Formatting is the process of deleting all the data on the hard drive, but beware of'Quick Format' which leaves all your data in place and makes the drive appear to be empty. A quick format is ok if you have a brand new hard drive, or you want to reinstall Windows, but not if you're disposing of the disk or giving it to someone else.

Befor formatting hard disk make sure you have successfully backed up any photos, videos, music and other documents from your drive before you format it. Although files can be recovered in some situations, prevention is always better than cure.

If you need to format a disk and you can't do it from within Windows, you can create a bootable CD, DVD or USB flash drive and run a free third-party formatting tool.

That is valuable in specific circumstances, yet in the event that you need to organize the whole hard drive and utilize the whole limit in one piece, you'll likewise need to erase the segment data. All inclusive USB Installer will rapidly and effortlessly change over the DBAN ISO picture you downloaded to keep running from a bootable USB. Basically embed a clear USB glimmer drive, run the Universal USB Installer setup program, and take after the prompts.

You will be requested that look through and pick the Linux Distribution you need to introduce to USB(for this situation, the most recent form of DBAN), trailed by its area on your PC and the letter of the USB drive you'd like to introduce it to. Once that data is finished, snap make.

Go into the RAID controller's BIOS(search for a message amid PC boot up) and search for a choice to design the drive(s) or reconfigure the RAID as individual plates(this will eradicate every one of them). Unplug the drive you need to arrange and associate it to an alternate SATA port on your motherboard which isn't a piece of the RAID controller. At that point, take after the Windows Disk Management system underneath since the circle won't be noticeable in Windows Explorer.

I already complained about my HDD, but till now there is no explanation from the Toshiba company. This is how they treat the customers. Once the product is given to the customer, their work is finished, I think. They wont worry about customer satisfaction at all.

This is the WORST company in the world when it comes to customer satisfaction.

I request all my friends please don't buy any product from Toshiba

Note: Review Based on personal thinking! No offense please!

hehe.Sorry To Say But Geek Airlines Is Back to it's usual Techie Track!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hey friends, I am back on MS after 24 hours(So long) to write a review on my favourite topic which got added just 60 minutes back! Without wasting more time, Nowdays if you have noticed that with the increase of the no. of viruse's, spyware/adware/scumware, worms, trojans and many other malicious threats attacking the consumers Computer system(Mostly the ones having Internet Connections), it's essential to not only know how to format your hard disk but also to format it in a proper way(TARIKA).:).Usually the computer vendor's take around 300 bucks for that thing.which you can say is neither difficult nor simple.than expected. *

Wanna read more on formatting, continue reading.:)

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY FORMATTING?

The process of completely erasing and resetting the data, drives present currently in your hard disk including the system files and all the sub folders is known as formatting. After formatting is over, installing a fresh piece of Microsoft Windows on the HD is known as Installation of Windows.Thereafter many drivers are installed so that your media is able to function properly.(Sound Card, Monitor etc.)

*PRECAUTIONS:

`Before formatting a computer. follow the following factors carefully`

1.Keep your vendors phone number beside you:

To be safe, by chance a problem occurs you can consult him any time and sort the problem out and continue.

  1. Backup:

Burn all your precious data which you have collected over a period of years like- Hundred's of songs, Documents, Pictures e.t.c. into a Re-Writable Compact Disc or 2/4/6 GB DVD Disc(Only possible if having a DVD writer.) You can also connect your current hard disk with another one and transfer all the data onto the new one.:)

  1. Hardware Compablity:

Hey people, before doing any of the 2 processes, make sure that there is no such hardware which is not supported by the setup. Many a times, the setup haults due to a Hardware(Lan Card Basically) which is not recognized.

  1. Power/Hard-disk Life:

Do make sure that if electricity goes in middle of any of the processes, the system continues to run otherwise it puts stress on the hard disk and reduces it's life.If you do formatting on a regular basis and also through quick process, it damages the internet lining disks of the harddisk.

STEP WISE FORMAT & WINDOWS INSTALLATION PROCESS(Windows: 95/ 98/ ME/ XP/)

`Here are the steps you need to follow to format a system properly`

  1. Take a bootable cd.

  2. Restart your computer with that cd inserted in the cd-rom.

  3. When system stops doing any other activity, enter the code for formating the drive where your previous windows version was installed before. For eg-: Type(In MS-DOS Mode)-> Format c:(To Format C Drive.)

  4. Then when Asked for confirmation-'yes' or'no'. Type'y' & press the enter key.(The drive gets formatted in approx. 10-15 minutes.)

  5. Take out the bootable cd and now insert the Windows Me/95/98/XP Disc.

  6. Press enter key when asked to.(The Setup Automatically runs)

  7. Enter the authorized 17 digit serial no.(Written at the back of the cd case).

  8. Setup Continues and ends in about 45 minutes-60 minutes.

Hence the drive has been successfully formated and Windows has been installed.

Important: *In the case of Windows XP/2003, the installation disk does the formatting for you automatically. In the above procedure instead of a bootable disk, insert the XP/2003 Installation disk and after continueing choose the drive you want to format from the the list and follow the onscreen instructions.

INFORMATION ABOUT DRIVERS*

After everything is set and done, you need to install certain drivers/files for eg- Monitor Driver, Lan Card Driver, Printer Driver etc(If not a Windows XP User) which help in the proper functioning of media. Since Each and every computer has different configuration, thus to download the drivers,

-visit: https://driverguide.com. or contact your vendor!

It has a collection of all the drivers for all kinds of hardware.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~
