This Unquiet Land - Barkha Dutt Reviews

This Unquiet Land by Barkha Dutt

This is the first book by well known journalist Barkha Dutt. She has tried to delve deep into the various path breaking incidents that she has covered as  a journalist. The writing style is reasonably good, though I won't call it gripping. As it is, very few non fiction books are gripping, unless the topic is close to your heart. The gripping part is generally reserved for fiction.

She has divided the book into various chapters each dealing with one incident or subject. She has reserached her topics well, sometimes too well for a casual reader. It is in effect, a brief history of political and other incidents in our times. Some of the issues covered are; Kashmir, Kargil War, The Place of Women in indian society, Gujarat Riots, current turmoil in political dispensation including rise of Modi, Kejriwal, reluctance of Rahul and role of Priyanka.

It is well worth a read, if simply to understand and make sense of why what is happening, is happening. However, I wish she had delved more into her own experiences, feelings and thoughts as a journalist, as a woman and as a citizen. That point, sometimes is lacking from the narrative. However, despite that, recommended for a read.
