The Cochin College. The Cochin College was founded on July 15, 1967, in response to an increasing demand for higher education opportunities in West Kochi. The College symbolises the hopes and aspirations of the public of Kochi and is a milestone in the history of the commercial town of Kochi.iFrom its humble beginning as a Junior College in 1967, the institution slowly and steadily grew into a post-graduate college in 1995.The college was accredited with B+ by the NAAC in 2003 and re-accredited with B Grade(2.85) in 2012.
The College is sponsored by the Cochin Education Society which was founded as a result of the joint efforts of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and the former Mattancherry Municipal Council. The College is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and offers various courses in both Science and Humanities at the degree level such as Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Commerce, Economics, English Literature and Mathematics. At the P.G level the College offers M.Com, with specialization in Financial Management, M.Sc Physics with Electronics, M.Sc Chemistry with Environmental Chemistry and M.Sc. Mathematics. M.A. in English Language and Literature and M.Sc. Zoology has been introduced in the academic year 2013-14. The College is consistently producing good results in all the disciplines in University examinations.
As part of extension to teaching, the College started two research centres for Commerce(2005) and Physics(2009) under Mahatma Gandhi University. During the short span of six years 11 candidates have successfully completed Ph.D in Commerce from the Commerce Research Centre. The Physics Research Centre has published 15 odd research papers in double blind peer reviewed international journals with high impact factor. The faculty members of the College are extensively involved in publications, presentation of papers in national/international seminars and undertaking research projects of UGC, DST, DAE, ICSSR, etc.
The College gives thrust to sports and games and the students are actively participating at the University/State and National levels.
To facilitate better job prospects for students, in addition to regular teaching, the College offers Add-on courses, UGC-NET/SET coaching, Entry in service, Remedial coaching, Computer courses, CA-CPT, etc.
As part of social extension programmes, the College is addressing the social issues through NSS, Womens Guidance Cell, Science Clubs, etc.
The College, the lone private aided college in the scheme of Cluster of Colleges(Ernakulam) of the Government of Kerala, is functioning well with the whole hearted support of the Management, PTA and Alumni.VISION OF THE COLLEGE

The Cochin College is an institution started with an objective of imparting education to the deserving minorities living in the port city of Cochin especially in the terrain of Mattanchery and Fort Cochin area. From a humble Pre-Degree course college, today it has grown into an institution where Graduation, Post graduation and even Research Centre is established. We are also nominated as the West Cochin Centre for IGNOU courses. This is a unique centre which strives to cater to all segments of the Society with very efficient faculties, excellent library and lab facilities having a good cultural heritage.Our aim is to make Cochin College an institution of “PAR EXCELLENCE”
