My first love: My Sierra: My beauty BUT DNT BUY IT
Aug 15, 2010 03:09 PM24774 Views

I got my sierra in april 1994, tat day is still fresh in my mind. we got it from Autoriders Bombay goregoan....now its shut down. got it for 5.2 lacs

Mine was Non turbo as Turbo option was launched only in 1996....It came in German red colour with a pajero style Black Crash guard.........wow looked awesome.

The minute I sat in the drivers seat I felt like IM THE KING OF THE ROAD.

Dude it looked breath taking......I've had it now for 16 years. I've driven it frugally around just 85000kms single driven. Its lost its initial charm.....but defi not its sex appeal......man it still gets u a second look at very signal.....

Now I've shifted base to bangalore/ kerala......but man not my sierra.....It stil stays close to my heart......I don't drive it much....its a bit slow...

I drive around 100 km a day, alt of highway driving.....so usually drive very fast so usually use my other car......but sierra is defi good in the cities......nobody will dare to cut u......its awesome

I'm a very practical person....don't believe in spending unnecessarily.....car jushas a Cd/ Mp3 player, ..Normal Bridgestone tyres, no alloys,

just spend to keep it alive.

NOW MOST IMP PART : Wil I honestly recommend any1 to buy it? NO

i'll tel u y...........

Tata after sales is one of the most @*#%^ services center.....absolutely c#%^& buggars.

local garages dont charge u much , but on the sad part, work isnt tat reliable.......

Car is good for once in a week drive or two or jusfor short drives....but dont be shocked if u have a prob once too often

common probs:

  1. low power.....not good for high terrain, or driving on ghats....engine heats up.....even wit coolant

  2. bad gear box....not smooth....u got to be strong to shift gears

  3. electrics totally @#&* up.....i had so much prob wit my power window.....got them removed....use manual ones nw.

4...sometg or other leaks.

5.power steering is good...but needs to be checked regularly.

i;ve had my car for 16 years........i love it...no matter wat....i know it like the back of my hand.

but u need to spend.....atleast 10 k a year to maintain it.

its not easy to part with so......ur heart wont let u......so it slowly drains ur pocket....

in these 16 years.....

1... Got gear box work done once.

2....engine work once.

3....all tyres changed twice.

4....suspension done thrice

but I still love it........took it on my honeymoon also......my wife is still jealous of my beauty......if god willing will take it on my anniversary as well.

Now the Pros:

1.. really strong....u will still live even if u have an accident....trust me.....i've hit a jersey cow....it bounced on my bonnet....kissed mywindshield.........mywindshiled survived.....so did i.....N thank god eventhe cow :) ANY OTHER CAR>>>> I WOD HAVE BEEN HISTORY.

2...killer looks...still has its sex appeal intact.....

3...great space inside

y wod I not recommend it even thou I love it so much:

1.....Not reliable....be prepared for anythg.....i've had car breakdown even on way back frm d garage....i've done alt of really long drives, , , , , , but no....its not recommended....if anytg goes wrong.....trust me u'll get stuck for long

2.....B prepared to spend atleast 10 k a year no matter wat the sales man/ garage guy tels u.

3.....U've to give time for it.....atleast once a week check....not practical if u really busy

4.....Not recommended if its ur only vehicle or 1st buy

My review is totally unbiased.

I've driven mysierra for 16 yrs n will continue to do till god wishes.....it has saved my life on number of occassions.......i will never part with it.........Its a part of me......its my 1st love.....its my beauty

i hope my article helps anybody in making a decision..........

MY TATA SIERRA
Dec 15, 2009 03:10 PM18741 Views

IT IS JUST ONE MONTH THAT I OWN A SIERRA.IT HAS INCREDIBLE LOOK WITH SOME EXTRAS FITTED.EVERYONEWHO GET THE FLASH OF THIS VEH LOOK ONES MORE.MY VEH IS FITTED WITH A  PIONEER S/W TOO.

IT IS CHERRY RED IN COLOUR AND HAS GREAT LOOKS TOO.IT HAS PS, POWER WINDOWS, A/C AND 200WATT MUSIC SYSYTEM.NOW I AM REALLY PROUD OF HAVING ONE.EVENTHOUGH THERE IS MUCH SPACE IN SIDE THERE IS NO ENOUGH SEATS FOR PEOPLE TO SIT.DRIVING A SIERRA IS 50%COMFORT AND 50%DISCOMFORT.TILL NOW I HAVE GOT FIRINGS FRO M OTHER MOTORISTS AS THIS IS LIKE DRIVING A BUS.

Hardcore and cheap
Jul 30, 2009 09:42 AM24921 Views

I bought this used for Rs.85, 000 last december & it works like a charm. Great bang for the buck. No major problems by itself so far. Mine is non turbo 1998. Ground clearance is excellent and it's great for rash driving, bad terrain and not having to worry about potholes. Go right over them. I've even taken mine into flood water where buses had stalled (although I do not recommended this). However, going on marshy terrain is not recommended due to lack of 4wd or abs.

It's a 2 door (but it can accomodate 6 people comfortably) and generally suitable to be used by 1 individual or a couple and not a large family. I intend to customize the seating in mine to have seats facing each other on the left and right sides so that the seating capacity would be increased to ~12.

Fuel (diesel) efficiency is ~8 in the city and ~10 on highway with aggressive driving. Handling is good and you can take curves at relatively high speeds of 60-70kmph comfortably. The gears take a while to get used to as 1st is where 2nd usually is and reverse where 1st is.

Low on torque, but has good raw power. I've parked it in steep inclines & over piles of rubble with ease. It could easily crush another car if the height is raised further. I got a crash guard set up on mine and this pretty much makes the vehicle invincible. If you hit anything, your vehicle won't even get a scratch but the other is sure to get some damage. You can open gates and topple motorcycles by just touching them lightly.

The engine does make a loud noise but sound dampening foam under the hood reduces that to a very acceptable level. Personally I love the roar of the engine and people tend to think you are going way too fast even if you're not due to the rev. This is 1 car which can't do 80 on 2nd gear, nor can it do 60 without redlining. Optimal shifting would be at 2500RPM and 3000-3200 if you're going fast. (This is for non turbo)

Personal top speed 145kmph.

AC is great but does have a noticable detrimental effect on the "pickup" in stop and go traffic.

Power windows make an awful lot of noise and are slow in comparison to other vehicles, despite servicing.

Power steering works like a charm.

Engine tends to overheat on long drives at high speeds & rpm.

Parts are cheap & abundantly available if they need to be replaced.

Safetywise, you're pretty safe if you hit something head on or get rear ended etc. But it's a mess if you get into a skid as the chances of a rollover are high. Unless you know how to drift and are 100% conifdent of getting out of a skid, it's wise to not speed on wet or otherwise uneven terrain.

Looks of the vehicle are great. Most people can't tell that it costs only about a lakh these days. It's also a very intimidating vehicle to come roaring down a road; humans, cars, bikes & cattle will all give way. I'm getting a sunroof of mine. This is a great tourer for long distance trips. It's enjoyable to drive and even to sit in the back.

Mag wheels, tubeless tyres and a kickass sound system are a must.

Generally a very practical and hardcore vehicle. Would definitely recommend this even if you have a lot of money to spend on newer cars this is great to have around if you find 1 in a good condition.

Performance can be improved with some tuning but I think it's fine the way it is. Going beyond 130 is hardly practical unless you do a lot of long distance trips.

Evergreen SUV - And something to cherish forever
Aug 26, 2008 08:06 AM18609 Views

I am an owner of the Tata Sierra. It is an awesome vehicle, it has a terrific image, and people think you are of high status when you alight from one.

Its diesel, and gives 10 kmpl in ride as you please mode in the city. Most of the parts are shared with Tata mobile and Sumo, so no problem for parts whatsoever.

The plus points are SUV looks, awesome suspension, solid build

Minus points are getting into the rear for old or fat people.

I keep my Sierra serviced from Tata, that way eventhough I end up paying more, it is done very well and not as shoddy as neighbourhood mechanics.

I bought the vehicle second hand, at 1 lakh. It was in a pretty bad shape as far as interiors and mechanicals go. I've now nursed it back to health and it runs like a dream.

Many people call it a white elephant, but the way I look at it is, 1 lakh downpayment and 2, 000 EMI per month. That way I always stay in profit. Costs me about 24 grand a year in maintenance and that is everything, even tyres and cosmetic stuff

The best Forever....
Aug 14, 2008 05:46 PM22835 Views

Although knowing the sierra is

out of production I purchased this vehicle. Initial responses form near and

dear ones " *why this vehicle! "?. *

WHY DID I BUY SIERRA?: Well I purchased it because I wanted to

buy a car for myself and in limited budget. I wanted to buy a car

1.which has good personality

2.which is comfortable

3.which is Good for long distances

4.which is easy for some modification

5.Which  I can move around in style and still not look heppy and jazzy

6.Which will suit me I am 93 Kgs and 5.10 tall

7.Not expensive on maintenance

And yes Sierra

suits all the Expectations perfectly.

ABOUT MY SIERRA: *

I should be Lucky to buy this sierra, It was owned by a friend of mine. He had

maintained in really good condition.

Type: Standard(Non-turbo)

Diet: Ordinary diesel+ System D

Nutrient: Castrol CRB+ or Shell RIMULA " D " type 15W40 oil.

Supplement:WRUTH Engine flush( used at oil change)

The feelings felt after buying my Sierra.

Day 1: Slightly disheartened about near and dear ones comments.

Day  2:  Took the car for a drive within my area. This is my first

car and the first time I am driving a big vehicle.

Day 3:   Familiarized with the Electrical  fuses and the various

oil levels in the engine bay.

Day 4:   Went out for a long drive, took the Chennai by-pass and once

in the open road the feeling I got driving was really great I was doing about

75kmph. Suspension is great. Got that floating feel.

Day 5:  Confidence level up by 200%, morale boosted up by 500%.

Day 6: Took the car inside peak hour traffic. Power steering is ablessing.

*Maneuvering this mammoth is not difficult as it seems.

*From Day

7.  Till date

there is no turning back or regrets.*

Now my sierra has

become an extended part of me.I feel at home behind the wheel rather than

actually sitting at home and watching the tube.

Some Maintenance tips I would like to give in my experience. These are purely

my personal suggestions / experiences I have undergone.( These are what I am

following till date please correct me if I am making a mistake somewhere)

1. Maintain correct tyre pressure - I maintain 33 psi

2.Wheel alignment checking every 5000 kms or whenever any suspension /

wheel bearing related work is done in the vehicle.

3.Tyre

rotation every 5000 kms.

4.Battery check every 2500 kms.

5.Oil change every 5000 kms.

6.Diesel, oil, air filter changes every 5000 kms.

7.Underbody water wash, all grease points greased and suspension

related  and other bushes in  underbody oil sprayed every 1500kms.

8.I regularly use SYSTEM-D with diesel @ 1ml per liter of diesel.

9Please attend to any minor rattling/squeaking sounds immediately.

10.Please maintain the chassis in very good condition any tinkering

needed  if done immediately and properly will save you a lot of trouble

and money.(I have seen some sierras with holes on the running board or

worse holes on the lower side of the doors too )

if you ask him about maintenance he will definitely say it is costly to

maintain  a sierra b'cos the tinkerer would have given him a higher quote

considering the condition of the vehicle.(it is the steel thats is costly not

the maintenance boss!)

11.Some electrical problems will arise - Mainly the relays will create

a problem .rationally thinking considering the age of the car the relay must

have lived its life and needs a replacement but some electrical

mechanics will try to repair it and use it -please change any blown relay or

fuses.

11.a.In Chennai I see quite a lot of sierras in local garages(rather

than TATA authorized service station) I too maintain my vehicle with my local

garage guy. What I have noticed is that the electricians have the habit of

winding a piece of wire on the blown fuse( the amperage the "new"

wire can sustain is much larger than the original in the fuse)So now the fuse

does not blows, but the part associated to it blows / gets burnt.-Please

insist your electrician to fix only new fuses. Better carry a few of 20

Amps rated in your glove box.

now again the maintenance will seem higher because the electrical part is

costlier than the proper amps rated fuse.

11.b. I get the fuse box and carriers in my sierra cleaned and

wiring checked every 6 months. I had experienced molten fuses stuck to the fuse

box permanently.

12.*Spares are not at all a problem guys believe me .I know a guy

who rebuilt his sierra from scrap and it is in  showroom condition now.

ALL SPARES are AVAILABLE.

COMMENTS

I feel that ride quality and

comfort is far better than most vehicles in it's class, though its not as quick

when compared to current gen diesel engines but I feel that the vehicle has

enough power and pep for comfortable journeys. **With proper regular

maintenance this car will be your best friend.** The interiors are bland not

a bit exciting though.

Sierra had come in the scene way before India was ready for it,

No other vehicle at that time** had power steering / power windows / company fitted

air con as standard / tiltable steering / rpm meter. And the 3-door design was way ahead the styling we had

seen. So the family man/common man thought it is not for him and never bought

it. So the great mammoth never went into the good books of the common masses,

So it was considered a failure / flop model.

BUT THE REALITY IS THAT THERE IS NO OTHER VEHICLE LIKE SIERRA

Sierra - Lord of the Road
Mar 16, 2008 10:21 PM19212 Views

I own a third hand 1994 Model Standard version of Seirra. This vehicle is fitted with Tubeless tyes (Bridgestone), costly Pioneer Music system, Central A/c, Power Windows, Power Steering ... thats all what a drive lover looks for.

Sierra is definitely not for the person who wants to have a car that is fuel efficient, accomodates the entire family (especially elderly people), ease-to-drive in the city limits.

I quite often go on long drives from Hyderabad in my sierra and beleive me it would be just like a drive to the next street, no stress, no breakdowns, ease of driving and you will enjoy everybit of driving, especially when you overtake the so called latest cars at and around speeds of

100-120.

""""Though it depends on the condition of the vehicle""""

Sierra is deifinitely a head turn vehicle on th eroad, which makes you feel to be the RULER OF THE ROAD

Recently I have come trough a blog wherein it was mentioned that by usage of wurth and thermocol rolls, we can minimise the sound of the vehicle, will get back with all details once I am thro'

Its a MAN thing - Sierra a Pure Ego Rush
Sep 08, 2007 09:27 PM17553 Views

If there's something that truly shouts - "MAN" then I guess this must be it The TATA SIERRA TURBO, a true Indian Ikon.

Wanna get noticed, wanna stand out from this pseudo crowd of the so called fast and smart cars..? There are no 2 ways about this - It has to be the SIERRA nothing can come close to its stature, It's sublime road presence & finally the ego rush that one experiences. I guess this is good enough an intro for the moment.

My sweet heart was 1998 born a reflection of onlookers envy in bottle green colour. it has clocked 80K KM's and still feels as fresh & tough as a virgin each time you step on her pedals! Dont want to get into the technical stuff, but a few words of wisdom for those of you who are reading this as I'm sure we have something in common - Passion to stand out from the crowd.

For all that wonderful feeling I have shared with u, one need not spend more than 150K to get hold of a 1999-2001 turbo in spanking condition - mind you the search is quite painful and needs a lot of patience. But if you are willing to go that extra mile to sit out the strenuous sessions with the mechanic to build it up the options are plenty 3rd hand 98-99 are available in region of 100K.

Make sure it's a turbo as it gives you more value for your money..!!

Finally a point to ponder to make the right decision on investing your time and money into a Sierra.

"It's a white elephant"

Cheers

Tata Sierra facts.
Jan 06, 2007 11:46 AM21604 Views

I have owned two Sierras within a span of five years.

Advisable for young at heart, a couple with not more than two kids, people looking for a second vehicle which is safe, sturdy, low on maintanence, good looking, for long drives, comfortable seating etc, etc, . The only problem is getting in and out of rear seat, for which the front passenger has to get down first.

Styling: The design is not contemporary and at the same time is not outdated. Getting in a out of the vehicle(front seats) is a breeze. The body suitable to make lots and lots of customising. Luggage space is acceptable. The rear seat is foldable. Rear glass which has very large surface area gives the vehicle very rich look. Alloy wheels and balloon tyres will enhance the look of the vehicle.

Interiors:interiors are of good quality and are placed well.

Comfort: Tata has given advanced features like Power steering, Power windows, ac, tiltable steering, rpm meter etc, 15 years ago.

Performance:The engine is adequate for the vehicle, torque is spread throught all rpms. Gear shift is good. Power steering functinos well. There is slight body roll but definitely safe at all the speeds the vehicle can travel. The best part is suspension. It absorbs all the pathholes with eaze. Mileage is 10-11 km/lt in city and 15-16 km/lt on highways.

Maintanence: The vehicle is very low on maintanence. And the spares are reasonable and available everywhere.

Conclusion: Second hand vehicle in good condition will be availble around 100k, which is a good bargain considering features and all other aspects. Finally its worth the money u invest on it.

Planning to buy Tata Sierra
Nov 16, 2006 02:31 PM20480 Views

Update on 13.12.2006

After writing the requirements I also looked out for Sierra and came to the conclusion that 2nd or 3rd Owner vehicle is available in the market for 50-65000 Rs. if u r lucky u might get Mag wheels and new tyres too.

Its always better to have a mechanic and get inspected before u make the deal. Better to go thru a good broker unless u know the owner very well.

For sparingly vehicle using folks like us second hand vehilces is the best option. use for a year and sell it and the rate of depreciation will be nominal.

All the best to u all and me in the search.

There is not a single good online site for seconds vehicle.

In case u come across pl do let me know

till then cheers

warm regards

Hello Sierra Lovers,

After reading the reviews of urs which are fantastic I am also planning to buy one Sierra. Pl guide me for this.

1998 model or above

run Km < 60000

Mag wheels and music system

What is milage that u can expect ?

Any hidden costs that I have to incur.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

For this specifications what should be the price.

I am planning to buy this for family outings. Can it be driven over long distances like 300 to 700 Km at a stretch?

Should I go for Sierra or Gypsy?

In case u come across any model in Bangalore please let me know I will give the comission to u rather than to an agent.

Your advice and guidance will be highly appreciated.

In case of Gypsy we can have a LPG kit and can save on milage but for Sierra any advantage ??

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

thanks and regards.

Since Saturday and Sunday is the time to look out….. your advice at the earliest will be of value for me and guide me

Cheers

I am using this car from last 12 years(1994 model)but still it has same sex appeal.ride comfort is excellent, but you need to take care about the suspension.i ahve changed the tyre size from 215-65-15 to 265-70-16 which come along with new DICOR,i have changed the rims to DICOR rims as well ,so now body roll is quite less & ride quality is more better.Fuel consumption city-14 as I driver around 1500-1800 RPM,highway-17.5 as I drive on constant 2200 RPM.But only 1 nothing I missing from this car is that AC is not effective as the new cars & engine overheats too when drive with AC on inside the city & it has only 2 doors for the passengers which is quite annoying as if someone has to sit on the rear seat you have struggle with the front seat first only then you can make it.But still I love this vehicle.

The most reliable vehicle
Jun 09, 2006 04:55 PM18071 Views

The tata sierra is the most reliable vehicle that the tatas have brought. its stunning looks and unbeatable power makes it stand out in the crowd. its a car that can be modified the most and gives a good look after its modification. I baught my car in 1998. I like everything about the car except that it is a two door vehicle. it was the first car in india with three doors. it can be called an suv . this car should be baught by all those people who are interested in adventure etc. it is best for long drives because it gives superb mileage and comfort and power. all those people who still feel that must get rid of that idea. it is the best car you can buy for that price. it performs the functions of all types of cars whether formal, informal , sports utilty car and a multi utility vehicle

Only passion!!! brain users keep off
May 31, 2006 04:10 PM17546 Views

I just purchased an old sierra coz I was mad about it. Model 1993 and 135000 kms done!

Till now, the cost reaches 3,25,000 and I think that I need around 35,000 more to make it as per my choice! Now it has all new sporty red paint, new tyres and imported leather interiors in camel color! Little modified grill and bumpers. I also tried to make the engine smoother by giving it to TATA service center. now it's a eyecather on the road as everything see it.

But the only problem is smoke as when I start and press accelarator it gives plenty of smoke! Even on the road when I change gears and press the accelarator to cope with, it throws a cloud of smoke which feel very awkward. Is it normal???? a mechenic told me that it's because of the pump service and repair and it will be lesser after driving few hundred kms! Somebody told me that I need to install new ring/piston etc. and it will have lesser smoke and better pickup.

I am very passionate about driving it but I don't use it much due to smoke only! INSTEAD I use my other car (Hyundai Getz) much but I like to drive the sierra as I love it love it and love it.

Please advise

I bought this Tata Sierra Turbo in 1998. The best thing about this vehicle was the suspension, (based on coil springs) which gives a very smooth ride. If you are buying this vehicle, either new or old, I strongly suggest you go for the Tata Sierra Turbo version. The only thing which I disliked about it is that it had no rear passenger doors and also no provision for luggage carrier. It has a very good pickup.Power steering is a cakewalk and the turbo boost which comes into effect after 60 kmph make you feel like gliding. Mileage on highways is good 10-12 Kmpl on highways and 9 Kmpl in cities. Ideal for single family who like to travel places by road. Also good for bachelors. Build is solid and thus it is a very safe vehicle to drive. Buy it with alloy wheels and radial tyres. Max speed reached by me was 125 kmpl on a clean strech of highways.

Tata Sierra Turbo - Dream car
Jan 18, 2006 07:01 PM25886 Views

Model Name : Tata Sierra Turbo.

Year of Manu: 1998.

Powered by: TATA 483 DL Turbo (DIESEL), 90 PS @ 4300 rpm, 90 BHP.

Max Speed: 135 KMPH.

Brakes: Vacuum-assisted hydraulic-dual-circuit with tandem master cylinder.

When Sierra was launched in the year 1991 by Tata Motors (Then Telco), It was love at first sight. One of first Ads on TV showed a White Tata Sierra being driven Off-road over rough terrain, jumping over humps. Tata clams that it was India’s first Indigenous Diesel Luxury Car. With a host of new features, It was indeed a luxury.

I am a proud owner of a second hand Tata Sierra Turbo and proudly I say the it still turns a few heads on road even today.

My father often used to travel in a Sierra Turbo. Since the time his company bought the vehicle, it has done 3,15,000 KM and still does 125 KMPH and gives an amazing 12 kmpl with twin AC on highway. The only controlling factor being, it needs to be driven in a way in which it should be driven.

The vehicle cruises comfortably at 85 kmph, if you put it in 5th gear. You will be able to maintain this speed with the tachometer reading just 2k (although it could go up to 4.8 or 5 k). If the speed is maintained between 80 and 95 kmph (with Tachometer reading less that 3k), the vehicle could give you, as much as 14 kmpl with AC on highway. Actually though AC is quite effective, It surprising does not effect the fuel economy much as what ever it looses towards running the AC is gained in the aerodynamics of the vehicle. This is specially evident when you drive with your windows down. The vehicle will easily touch 110 but never cross 115 kmph. But when the windows are raised, the vehicle suddenly becomes very silent and within no time touch the sweet 130s on road.

When a vehicle comes with a turbo-charger, one should always be aware of the operating RPM of the engine when the Turbo charge kicks in. Though Tata clams that the Turbo charge kicks in at 1800 RPM, it is only evident after 2.5k to 2.8k rpm. This was evident when a Wagon R tried to overtake my vehicle while traveling on the Bangalore – Mysore Highway recently. At third gear, with speed around 50 kmph, Wagon R overtook my vehicle almost as if my vehicle was not moving. But when the engine broke the 3k mark on the tachometer, I was able to catch up and overtake the vehicle comfortably. With my old Sierra Turbo, I was able to out run a Bolero, several Sumo and a Tevera as well. Performance wise, a sierra does better that a Safari (older Safari, older than 2002 ) as well, as it is the same engine that powers both of these vehicles and Sierra weighs about 450 kgs less that a safari. But again, Like is said earlier, The vehicle is only as good as its driver. It is definitely a beast when driven properly.

If you want the get the best out of you Sierra Turbo, please keep the following things in mind:

  • It is a turbocharged vehicle. If you want to overtake any other vehicle on the road, please make sure that the engine is running above 3k rpm. If the engine crosses 3k, you can even compete with most Petrol cars on road.

  • While cruising make sure that you are running the vehicle between 1.5 k and 3.0 k rpm. Below 1.2k, there will be a lot of vibrations and vehicle will stall if clutch is not used properly.

  • Every 7000 kms, please check the viscosity of Engine oil, Check for carbon deposition and get the engine oil changed.

  • Always heat the engine atleast 3 times before starting the vehicle for the first time. Please leave the vehicle to run for atleast 1 min before hitting the accelerator.

  • Although hydraulic brakes are quite effective, please pump the break paddle once before slaming on it (Though this may not be possible everytime). It brings the vehicle to stop almost immediately. Always make sure that you make use of the gear as well to control the speed, or to slow the vehicle down as you do with any other heavy vehicle.

  • As both clutch and brake systems are hydraulic, please check the level of Brake and clutch fluid before going on long trips. Please check the Power Steering Oil level as well.

  • Never ever let the fuel tank go dry. It is a pain to get the diesel flowing smoothly again. As any other normal petrol vehicles, you will not be able to just fill fuel and start the vehicle with a turn of the key. You have to manually pump the fuel into the engine before you are able to start the engine again.

  • Check the timer belt, every 60,000 kms.

Personally I think that the chassis is capable of housing a bigger and more powerful engine. The vehicle is definitely capable of higher speeds as it is rock solid and very stable even at 130 kmph. The vehicle can effortlessly turn at 100 kmph and the driver will have full control of the vehicle. The Pitching, rolling and yawing motion of the vehicle is minimal when compared to any new SUVs that we have in the market now, like Scorpio, Sumo, Qualis and Tevera.

With the seat belts on, there is’nt a safer place on road. A concrete electric pole fell on the hood of my car when I was traveling at about 40 kmph and I am still alive to talk about it. Mind you, there was no electricity passing through the cables (Luckily) when it fell. The crumple zone was effectively used to absorb the impact and both my brother and I escaped with not even a cut on our bodies. Luck played a major role in this but at the same time I cannot deny credit to the way in which the vehicle has been designed.

If only the vehicle had 4 doors and touch 160kmph on highway, I will never think of any other vehicle for another 5 years.

If any of you’ll know any good mechanic who could modify the body to have 4 doors and can make the vehicle go a little faster.. Please contact me at Srikanth_tekuru@yahoo.com.

I bought a 3 hand 98 - standard model 5 months back. The 1st owner kept it in standard condition. The 2nd owner jazzed it up with a pajero look. He'd changed the entire look of the vehicle. Fitted a gull wing to make a 5 door model. Brand new Michelin 235 tubeless tyres. Good Dupont paint. Foam leather seats. Wooden steering wheel. Amazing from the outside. It steels the looks on the road.

The problem is the inside. Something always goes wrong somewhere. The Power is OK. The drive is very comfortable. But I'm not able to trust this machine and take it for a long long drive. Infact as a family, we had gone for a holiday to a nearby hill station. I chose to take my esteem rather than the sierra. It does pain... but some how I'm not able to trust this vehicle., I get a feeling that something might go wrong somewher.

From the time I've bought this, I've changed the radiator, electrical system, little work on the suspension, battery... For a month now, its not given me a problem... prayiung that it would remain that way. But this is as far as I'm concerned.

To the man on the road, I'm on one of the stylish cool SUVs in town. I do not know if its the same with other cars, or I'm the only guy with that problem... Can some one respond plz

Hi all,

I saw the Sierra when I was studying. I was so impressed about the car that I decided if I ever buy a car, it definitely is going to be a SIERRA. After 4 years, I finally got one. I have been driving the car for at least 5 years now, and I love each and every minute of the ride. Balloon radials and mag wheels definitely adds a lot of masculinity and style. I bet whoever has this car would definitely not OWN it but POSSESS it. You also feel a lot safer inside the car as the car is rock solid. This vehicle is not for those who are looking for a run of the mill car. Well, yes a little bit of maintenance required, but the car is definitely worth it!! SO, FOR ALL YOU WILD GUYZ OUT THERE, GO FOR IT !!!!!
