Sterling Yelagiri Reviews

Chennai/Madras India
I have been cheated by Sterling Holidays ...BEWARE
Oct 27, 2016 05:04 PM 7399 Views

Dear All

I am a 71 year old retired person living in chennai.

Sterling Holidays were to develop their OWN RESORT at Yelagiri, like the ones they have in Ooty, Kodai, etc.

In the year 1994 I signed an agreement with the company considering that one can reach Yelagiri within 3 hours from chennai. I paid around Rs 37000.

The agreement is for 99 years and I am supposed to get one week every year.

It would have been an ideal holiday place, my family thought.

The agreement COMMITTED that they will construct their OWN resort in Yelagiri.

They also described the details of the plot, like location, extent of land, 17 acres, etc, in the agreement .

Visit to that site was also arranged for us.

Agreement also stated that if they fail to construct own resort they will refund my amount with 18% interest PA.

As the years went by, I noticed that instead of constructing own resort they leased out a resort.

When I visited it, I was thoroughly disappointed. Hence instead of spending full time, we returned from Yelagiri.

Their senior executive sent me a mail assuring that they will soon start construction of own resort and added that till their own resort is ready, I need not pay annual maintenance charges.

Disregarding their commitment they continued to send mails and SMSs asking me to pay annual maintenance charges. They also reduced my annual number of days accrued .

I recently sent a mail to them and asked them to refund my money with interest as per term of agreement.

I need the amount to meet my and my wife's medical and other needs.

I also approached a Chennai based Consumer Action group and gave all details.

They agreed with my stand and sent a mail to Sterling couple of months ago.Sterling are yet to reply that mail.

Kindly advice what I can do to get my money.

Thanks

R santhanam

Avoid Sterling Yelagiri

In spite of learning that sterling yelagiri should be avoided at any cost, I did ventured out and learnt the hard way.  Upon entering sterling, reception itself was bad, were given rooms which were stinking, and less said the better about the toilets.  Maintenence is zero and in spite of repeatedly reminding about the geycer not working, TV not working, none were prepared to attend to it.  Food once ordered, will be served as per your luck, takes minimum 45 mintues to 1 hour.  I went with my family to spend 3 days there and ran away within 2 days.

For havens sake, wakeup sterling, please maintain your resorts, and you are collecting maintenance charges every year and utilise the same for the purpose for what it is collected

Avoid Sterling Yelagiri

Poorly furnished. curtains torn and stapled. No wardrobe. Passes for a lodge. Except for the courteous staff, there isnt anything worth mentioning. Turned out to be a big dissappointment. They take you to a sunset point, 30 mins trekking from the resort, paid service. The inhouse spa offers some good services. The hill town is charming and scenic. That alone saved our weekend which otherwise would've been a disaster.Nov is the beginning of the season, very pleasant weather. You may need warm clothing as the evenings are colder.

Avoid Sterling Yelagiri at all cost

The party scene in Bangalore had palled and we wanted a quiet getaway. We ruined what was to have been a quiet New Year's Eve together in a half horse town and looked forward to just a quiet, comfortable stay, which unfortunately was not to be. What we encountered was a pig sty. Even making allowance for the fact that it is a leased property, it gives them no right to allot rooms which are so rudimentary you can call it a chawl room rather than a hotel room. No adequate furnishings, NO VENTILATION at all, airing the room is only through the door to the room which opens on to the corridor outside, dirty, filthy, no toiletries, filthy toilets, a threadbare towel, its more like a budget hostel than a resort. You are welcomed at a small table in the corridor which is what passes for the reception. Staff are surly, maybe too many people complaining incessantly(we heard someone complaining of water flooding his room)! Ridiculous. In fact there should be a law to ban unhygienic hovels which are passed off as resorts. Why can't they close their operations till their own resort is ready to operate? Please avoid this place.

We checked out immediately and checked in at Hotel Landmark, which is at least clean and supposedly the best in Yelagiri (though at Rs.2250/night - room only - it is a little pricey for the town). Yelagiri has no sight seeing worth mentioning, just a small man made lake which you can walk around, maybe reach a couple of vantage points / temples by trekking. A good place to relax, do nothing, maybe read.

Yelagiri is ok for a night. Next day, you can travel about 80 km to Sripuram, just before Vellore town, to have a look at the shimmering Golden Temple there and after a darshan which can be quick if you shell out Rs.250/head or about 3 hours long if you prefer to take the long winding queue, you can return to Bangalore after a weekend getaway with a difference.other than the Sterling fiasco, it was not a bad weekend actually. We clocked 472kms in all.

Location of sterling resort is really awesome! I have never seen a resort located in the way sterling located in yercaud.sometime I felt whether I am falling from the mountain, the location make me to feel like that.In few places you can see the mist passing above you but here in sterling resort you can see the mist getting originated and passing under you, in such a way the sterling resort is located.

There are not much places in yercaud to see but being in the resort you can see lot of places with great views. An extra ordinary place to relax. You don't have to wait till your late fifties to feel the retirement just come to sterling and take a cup of coffee in the early morning then sit and see the mountain view and the mist then you will feel forget your work and pressure and you will have the relax feeling one will have after his retirement. Everything in the world has two sides and sterling is not an exception to that.Food in sterling is really pathetic.Even in the road side hotels you can a better food than in sterling.

Being such a highly graded resort I don't know why they are keep on ignoring the food quality for a long time. Imagine the quality of food cooked by a girl born and brought up in the metros and sterling food quality will also be like that only. In life to get a better thing we have to sacrifice small things the same way to get the best of an experience in the sterling you have to sacrifice your tongue taste to get and feel nature's taste. Best Experience:

  1. They conducted lot of fun activities in the night which was really a good time pass.Specially the children dance event was good

  2. When I opened the door in the morning I was wished by mist instead of sunlight

3.Lawn around the room really looks good and few college students also came there so its always fun seeing how they enjoyed and it brought my college days in my memory Worst Experience:

1.Food is the worst thing

2.I booked the room through an online travel agent and I paid the room tariff to them but when I was checking out the room again they asked me to pay the room tariff so it took me around 30 minutes to make them understand the fact about online booking.

3.They don't even provide tooth brush & paste in the room and we have to buy them in the store which they will open after 8(though they said it will be opened by 7 am)
