Before I start with the review of the book, I'd like to give you a little backdrop of how the book came into being. It makes for an interesting story and fascinated me the moment I came to know of it. This book is loosely based on a TED Talk given by the author to new York university. The talk went viral and then the author summed up the key points of it which culminated into a book
The author takes a bold stance in the begging of the book itself by stating that'New art is just a reinterpretation, a reconfiguration, of previous artistic manifestations'. He urges us to find inspiration from the work which has been produced previously and then mould it into a remarkable creation.
He stresses on the importance of having a curious mind and open minded approach with regards to whatever we encounter in our lives.
One of his points which really struck a chord with me was that digital gadgets are a bane for artists and how we should go the analogue way when it comes to creating arts.
While, I have just highlighted two or three principal giveaways from the book, it is crafted into ten chapters and each one of them provides a valuable insight.
I would like to sum it up by saying that Austin has imparted some practically applicable insights which all people seeking creativity should imbibe. Be it a musician, an artist or a writer, anyone looking to get started or amp up their creative game, this book is a must-read
PS: Do not take steal in the title seriously, no where in the entire book has the writer promoted plagiarism
