Horrible travel experience

We flew Sri Lankan Airlines from Colombo to Frankfurt on January 5, 2024. The flight left Colombo Airport almost three hours late. Although it was an 11 hour flight, they made no attempt to make up for lost time. So we arrived in Frankfurt three hours late, and as a result we missed our connecting flight to the US. There was no one from the Sri Lankan Airlines at the Frankfurt Airport to help us rebook our flight. We were completely abandoned by the Sri Lankan Airlines. Finally a kind local travel agent helped us out. Later we read that this kind of lateness is typical with this airline. We will never fly with them again!


Terrible and Unhygienic Airline

Absolutely terrible Airline! Complete disgrace as a national Carrier. My first experience and hopefully my last with them. So I've purchased 4 flights with them as a round trip from Qatar to Thailand to Sri Lanka and back to Qatar over a period of a month. So on my first flight it was delayed by around half an hour then on entering the cabin it felt worn, misused and barely sanitary. On my seat the headphone jack wasn't working so informed the cabin crew who tried to fiddle with it and get it to work which it didn't, he offered to find me another seat but returned later to say there wasn't anything available. My connecting flight from SL to Bangkok was also delayed by 45 minutes or so, and alas the same was to be said about this cabin as the previous flight. I still had hope that the third time would be where this dreadful airline would redeem itself......but as expected Sri Lankan Airlines showed me that their airline can truly exceed expectations on how terrible they can be and truly go well below your minimum expectation of them. This time too they seemed to find a way to delay their takeoff by about half an hour but the worst thing was its cabin, where there was what seemed like hair oil on the windows, mould on the blinds, food or bodily fluids on the entertainment system, food particles left over on the tray table from God knows when and to my splendid luck another malfunctioning headphone port. So whoever reads this, do yourself a huge favor and book a different airline, save yourself the mental fatigue of this airline.


Worst airline, terrible customer service

Sri lankan airlines is one of the worst most cheap unprofessional airlines out there. When I was due to fly out of Colombo on a sri lankan airlines flight I heard about(even first hand from my own brother) about how aircraft are turning back and returning due to emergencies that were from sri lankan airlines clearing to fly aircraft that were un airworthy.


I went to their refund portal and and it clearly mentioned I was eligible for a refund, for which I applied. After applying a few weeks past and I get only a partial refund. Close to 40% of the amount I paid for the ticket had not been refunded. So I decided to call the sri lankan airlines Melbourne office to follow up on what had happened. They requested me to email them which I did, and was only responded back to with an email saying'we refunded you already', completely ignoring the fact that they had stolen 40% of the money I had originally paid for the ticket. There upon I called the sri lankan airlines Melbourne office once more and was attended to by one of the most vile entitled individuals who proceeded to insult me for requesting for my money and even and one point asked me what'I would like for him to do'(in a condescending tone) and that the issue is not something within his control. I asked to speak to a manager and the managers were unreachable but they said they will ask the manager to contact me one the phone I am calling on. Can you guess if the manager and the sri lankan airlines melbourne branch called me back? They didn't.


I email them a 5th time upon which they are now claiming it is policy to charge a flat fee of USD x amount for refunds, when I asked them where this'policy' is mentioned on the refund page the vile individual was unable to answer me and replied back saying "where did we tell you we will give you a full refund". I have lost all hope of getting my refund from the terrible staff at sri lankan airlines.


If you wish to put yourself and your family in danger please go ahead an book you next flight ticket with this sorry excuse for an airline. If you wish to speak with entitled vile individuals, then pick up your phone and call the sri lankan airlines Melbourne office and speak with their terrible customer service agents. As for myself I will never fly this terrible airline ever again, I will never allow anyone in my family or friends book with this trash airline. I infant asked my brother to pay 20% more for the Singapore Airlines ticket to fly with them.

Terrible airline, don’t fly. They left me stranded in Paris. I had a flight from Amsterdam to Colombo. I checked in and flew from Amsterdam to Paris (first leg). My second leg was Paris to Colombo, I transferred and went through security. Finally at the Gate with my boarding pass, I was told I needed to present the card payment details or a photo of it for the flight, which I have never been asked to do before by any airline. The flight was already paid for. My partner had paid for this flight and was currently overseas without a mobile network, so I was unable to retrieve photo of his card details and I was then unfairly denied access to the plane. The attendants at the gate were also extremely rude and refused to help me rebook too. I had to beg and ask what I should do next before they said even anything. They also told me nothing about where my bags would be. They then lost my bags. They are a horrible airline. Do not fly with them!


Also as a Sri Lankan I’m also extremely embarrassed that this airline is representing my country… what a joke.

Happened last NOV 8, 2022


at KUALA LUMPUR INT AIRPORT with sri lankan airline.


2 passengers got offload and was denied boarding on their flight to dubai. Reasons are they want that the return ticket is also booked with sri lankan airline not considering that the passengers are from the philippines. They got a direct flight from dubai back to their home home country with PAL but the staff at the counter wont accept it. Weird questions were asked like, why they only brought hand carry with them, wheres their$1000 show money, which hotel will they stay in dubai. Staff at the counter also dont know that if you have a dubai tourist/visit visa its effectivity is when the passenger arrived at dubai airport. Manager won't speak to passengers, no effort to resolve the issue. End up cancelling the ticket and passengers were tagged no show so we booked a new flight with Qatar Airways and guess what they boarded the plane with no hassle at all. Overall, it was a complete horrible experience with Sri lankan airline. Definitely will never book any sri lankan flights again. Please save your time and money. Avoid them at all cost. Youve been warned!

Here is my horrendous experience with srilankan airlines dring the travel with my wife and a new born.


I have been travelling with srilankan airlines for the last 6 years, but this is the first time have gone through a hell; right through each journey process.


Boarding from Chennai and reaching to melbourne, australia.


Booking number: 6RTQQM


Travel date: 28th sept'22


Issue 1)During the Checkin process:


The lady who did our checking was very harsh, rude & strict inspite of seeing us struggling with a new born.Even for 500gm/1kg she stalled us to make remove them


from the cabin luggage and only after that she gave our boarding pass.When we talked to her manager(Description: A short, fair, bald guy) he was equally arrogant, saying we wont allow an extra gram as well and not at all accomodative our gentle request(although we put forward our request as its baby essential stuff).


When I quoted, my past experinces with sri lankan airlines were always smooth, friendly and accomodative, the guy replied'Those days are gone, we just make our rules.If you want to, you can travel else its your choice.' We reached 3 hours before checkin time and because of the drama with the checkin lady and her manager we were stalled in the checkin counter for 2.5 hours and had to rush with the poor new born during the final call.


Issue 2)Journey from Colombo to Melbourne:


Even before booking this ticket, I had orally confirmed with the sri lankan airlines that since I am travelling with new born infant do they have bassnet seat? To which they happily acknowledged that they have bassinet seat which can be booked 3 week prior to travel;which I ensured and got the bassinet seats 50-G, F.When we entered the flight to melbourne we realized our seats had been wrongly assigned to 57-H, K(Infact I had reconfirmed during the checking process that ours is a bassinet seat from the lady who did our checkin).The flight ground staff came to the flight and acknowledged that it was the airline mistake, but shamelessly told they cant do anything about it and will not give bassinet seats.


Also to our face, the ground staff flatly told If you wish they can get down and skip the travel.(How on earth these people have the guts to acknowledge the mistake and also told they wont do anything about it and just waked away. walked away? Left helplesss)


Even if all these inconvenience is for just ourselves, we would still let this go, but what did the poor infant did inspite of the prior arrangements?


So the whole purpose of booking this ticket to travel with bassinet seat was completely defeated!


Can you imagine carrying a new born for 9hrs of flight after having layover of 5+ hrs [Initially our layover was only around 1hr which the airline rescheduled].


(The lady who did our checkin should have purposefully/mistakenly/carelessly should have changed our seat Or how on each can it magically change by itself?)


Attached proof of the initial bassinet seat and also the different seats allotted in our boarding pass.


I wish the silankan airlines to recover with the tough time they are going through and soar high.But the chances are quite low with these kind of employees and such bad customer experiences.


So my fellow travellers/families with babies please have a second thought before booking with sri lankan airlines!


NO REFUND DESPITE MORE THAN 2 MONTHS

It has been over 2 months since I requested a refund and nothing has happened. I have made an official online request followed by three reminders, but to no avail. I have had a live chat with them also. It's really pathetic.


Now, I am thinking of suing them in a court.


My request for travelers is that


DON'T BOOK ANY TICKET WITH SRILANKAN AIRLINES, IF YOU ARE NOT 100% SURE OF YOUR TRAVEL


Expect no support from Sri Lankan Airlines

I took my parents to Maldives as a special gift, and upgraded the return flights to business class as a final surprise. During this upgrade process, Sri Lankan Airlines suggested I apply for a tax refund. I did this, but the airlines mixed up this refund request and cancelled our return tickets instead.


We were stranded, and had to find additional accommodation and flights to return home, with no support from Sri Lankan Airlines. I understand there was some misunderstanding and was only seeking refund for the flights that we couldn't take due to this error, but getting support from their teams is absolutely impossible.


Despite phone calls and personal visits to their office, they insist they can only respond to queries via emails. Their team's response to emails is not only painfully slow but also never addressing the actual query. As a result, I am looking$1, 300 worth of tickets being lost with the airlines taking no accountability.


It's clear that their support model is designed to leave the interaction as one-sided with the customer having no room to have a real conversation, or receive any support that doesn't fit into their basic transactions.


Extremely poor experience. They have not refunded

A bunch of thugs who have a refund policy but don't bother to reply to their emails for refund, have no updates as to when will I be refunded and their executives in Delhi say they have nothing to do with it. Impossible that anyone would pick up their 247 customer complaint number. Frauds!

I have been waiting for the last 2 years on my refund from Srilankan Airlines. They literally don't want to return the money. I can see so many people complaining on the refund issue with this airline in other forums. I even reported to CAAS and no response. Most likely they want to embezzle all the money. It is a bummer. We should raise an international awareness through media / social media against this airline and their fraud tactics. This is all people's hard earned money and no point in cheating your once loyal customers. Is there an international governance body to take action against them? I believe this refund scam would involve several hundred million dollars. Need justice Need refund from Srilankan Airlines.

We had booked tickets in Srilankan Airlines to Dubai from Chennai via Colombo as transit through your portal.


On the day of departure, we came to know that RAPID TEST to be taken outside the airport which is impossible because rapid test can only be taken inside the airport. There is no prior communication or details mentioned while booking the ticket. Even if mentioned in the ticket, it is an invalid request from your side because RAPID TEST can be done only inside Airport as per the government regulations.


You have tricked us into buying the ticket.


When we requested to provide an approval to take the test inside Chennai Airport, they said, "No we will not do it" and said, "You can cancel the ticket. Book tickets from Gulf country Airlines, then you'll be able to take the test inside and fly to Dubai".


When we asked them to write and give that we will not allow us to board us into the plane, then there was no response for 5 mins. We were informed that we will take Rapid test in SLK, they asked if I was a Sri Lankan, I said no. When my cousin said she is a Sri Lankan, the way of approach changed and checked with their higher official to board us in the plane which is very wrong because just because I'm an Indian, they have no right to discriminate me and being biased towards me.


They made us sign a release remnant form that we are doing it on our will which is not true because we did not miss any documents, it was their fault to issue a ticket where they have no authority to take a test.


Because of their fault, I had to $25 for on arrival which is not necessary for one day transit.


After all these commotions, we had to go through a new rule that pops after landing in Sri Lanka saying that RT PCR have to be taken again as per airline policy. So we had to take both RT PCR and RAPID TEST almost at the same time which makes zero sense and we were forced in a situation to pay 30, 000 LKR for their fault


Because of all these new policies pop up, we had to check in late. After that also they are asking that travel insurance is necessary or else we will not board you. If we ask if we can purchase a new one, no response from them. They didn't even treat us as a human being.

Neat and clean space inside. A caring behaviour provoded by staff. Whrn I got return from th gulf I feel really comfortable. And they are ready to provid the business class seats with out extra charges for an economic class passanger. And their announcement about the flying updates are on time. Treadted like tourist company and reponse also so good. Maintenance is very good on flights

This airline is not good. I have travelled in this airline 2 times. They didn't provide good facility in their flights. Crew members are too lazy. I asked for the water. And they didn't give me water. After half an hour I got up and took the water from the crew members. Food was not good .quality of food was average, I didn't like the food. I went shrilanka in 2016 and 2018.my experience is not good .tv was not working properly. It has very few Hindi songs and hindi movie. Hindi songs were old, new songs were not there. Please don't travel in this flight. My experience was very bad.

Hello guys , how are you all . This year I have travelled from chennai to kuwait through srilankan airways , my check-in was good and in no time I got my boarding pass and the flight arrived in time they are so punctual , hospitality of crew inside the flight was excellent and we get enough food , the quality of food was excellent all the indians can possible eat , incase if u r travelling with airlines like kuwait airways and oman airways they also maintain the quality in food but indians unable to eat such kind of food bcz its tastes badly . Some airways like air arabia they even dont provide a water bottel to their passengers . so I like to travell in srilankan airways I forget to say something here , beer lovers can enjoy inside the flight , finally I wnat to conclude that flight fare also bit cheaper , when I was travelled the price was around 11 k per head .so I suggest u guys fare may change time to time in my view they have reached to my expectations and in case if u have some issues about ur travelling date u can easily change the date by calling to the costumer service .if u travelled once u guys will love to travel again. Thankyou soo much guys

I Flew from Bangkok to Chennai via Colombo last Friday on the A321. I Paid 60USD for the minimum upgrade from Colombo to Chennai with the access to the lounge facility. The check-in staff at Bangkok is super helpful and friendly. The crew was efficient and there were 3meal options on board for economy-class. The flight time to Colombo was less than3hours and I had a chance to see Nicolar islands from Above. Colombo airport is not big so it is quite easy for transit. To be honest, I chose Sri Lankan because of the price factor. It is even cheaper than Air Asia and the arrival time is3pm in the afternoon. The food selection at the lounge was great. And you can help yourself at the bar for alcoholic item so the upgrade was such a right decision I made. However, I noticed that there was no vegetarian option for Business class meals which surprised me. They should put half of veg meal for Indian passengers. This sensivitity is something that has to be improved. There are 16 business class seats on the day I flew. The crew has to serve one by one on trap which is quite nice. However, the TV is still the old version which is pretty small. I Saw Adam bridge from above and I am thankful to Sri Lankan staff who put me on 3A for this view. SRILANKAN recently become 4stars airline and I congratulate on this success.

Srilankan airways is the best airways for whom to travel in a cheaper price and luxurious.


The staff is good enough to serve the things in the flight and they take good care of the passengers. The pilots are gud enough and have a talk in the middle of the journey and have announce the required remedies while take off and landing

I have travelled in these airlines from Riyadh ( RUH) to Hyderabad ( HYD) . On 9th December.


It was delightful to travel with that airlines. The beauty of that plane and a really gud service.


First I expected that it won't be nice but I was completely delighted and happy during the flight!


And moreover it was cheap and I got a good luggage! I am really happy with the flight and wish to travel again with Srilankan airlines!
