SPS Museum Lal Mandi, Srinagar

I visited SPS museum at Lal Mandi at Srinagar in August, 2014 which is the only museum to explore in Srinagar. The collection of the museum is so big that it will take entire day to cover the entire museum. Frankly speaking, you may have to visit next day as well because there are spell bounding collections of 79595 artifacts and objects covering various subjects like Archaeology, Numismatics, decorative Art, paintings etc are housed in the museum. The collections which are displayed in the museums fall under the following categories:

1) Utensils;

2) Natural history collections;

3) Paintings;

4) Sculptures and other excavated objects;

5) Musical instruments;

6) Numismatic;

7) Textiles and carpets;

8) Weapons and armoury;

9) Manuscripts;

10) Items of leather, grass and willow work; and

11) Furniture and decorative items.

The museum is structured in a typical Kashmiri architectural pattern with widespread over large area horizontally but it is very well maintained in neat and clean manner. The museum remains open during the day time. It is a museum which is worth to visit with your friends and family as you will never be able to experience the rich history and heritage of this place anywhere in the world.
