This is one of my favorite place to hangout with my friends. A good place to be on week days. Never be there on Saturday and Sunday if you want to enjoy your time and drink. The pubs also offers various types of drinks, lunch and dinner The pub hosts approximately nine hours of live music every day. Famous bands like the Indian Ocean, Skinny Alley, Lou Majaw, Prestorika, Hip Pocket, Parikrama, and International bands have also performed in the pub.

Bar cum Restaurant in The Park Hotel Kolkata
Dec 29, 2016 10:11 PM 2317 Views

Hi guys, I am back with my honest review.

I have been to Someplace else many times, it is located in The Park at Kolkata at Park Street.

It is one of the best bar cum restaurant in Kolkata with great crowd.

The food is little expensive but worth the ambiance and presentation is great too.

Rupees 3000 will be okay for 2 people if you want to have some snacks and drinks too.

Ambiance is awesome, classy people, great live music, cozy bar.

Customer is not so good as the bar is so crowded that the waiters gets puzzled but worth waiting a bit.

As I said, it is little expensive, but its a 5 star hotel, so paying a bit more is okay sometimes.

Someplace else - Still got the blues
Jun 04, 2008 03:59 PM 6387 Views

The pub situated inside the Park Hotel, is one of the heritage of the city. The bluesy-psyche atmosphere with the great music is what makes the place so special. Someplace is'just' not another pub, which are inclined for commercial stuffs and all. It ha his own class and noone can deprive it ofit's pride. It stands tall, with its head high, strumming all the way.

Although the pub has undergone several changes throughout these years, still the elegance has been the same. The pub has seen the rise of great musicians like Amyt Dutta, Sumit Ramachandran(although he was first spotted in Trincas), Gary Lawer, Anjan Duttaa etc.

The best thing is that you get to hear good music with some exquisite drinks. The trip goes high as the night progresses. Famous bands like Skinny Alley, Hip Pocket(a regular),  Lou Majauw band(did I spell correct), Prestorika, Parikrama, Indian Ocean and many foreign bands have performed in this pub. Park Street was the most happening place n the 80's, thanks to someplace. Even thelate great Shawn Lane has played over here, shredding it out. It was his last show, before he passed away.

The musical journey that the pub provides is inexplicable, as it can be experienced by an individual whose there live, seeing it through his own eyes. One request from my side, don't make the place too stuffy, make some arrangements. I used to have serious hangovers due to this.

From Floyd to Robert Cray, from megadeth(crystal and the witches played recently) to jimmy hendrix, someplace gives you all. So, instead of chitchattn, go to Someplace, grab a beer bottle, sit and enjoy the music all through the night. And the rest? The blues will do the talking. Yeah, you are damn right, It has got the damn blues. Cheers.

Really some place else...

Someplace Else, the pub at The Park Hotel,Park Street is one of the hottest spots in Kolkata, and for all the right reasons. For people like me who aren't too fond of discos, Someplace Else is the perfect answer to a US's Hard Rock Cafe, or somewhere close for certain.

The ambience is sure to put you into the mood for laying back, casually sipping your beer while talking to your old friends and enjoying the music the on-house DJ(usually DJ Austin) offers. However, don't assume that DJ music only means ''Kaliyon Ka Chaman'' and all that. For a change, you get to hear everything from Bryan Adams, Scorpions and Enigma right down to Metallica, Guns n Roses,Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd.

The pub has the usual bar counter lined with the stools as well as the normal table/chairs. The most attractive seats are however the sofas that line the right side of the pub where you can really get comfy and spend hours whiling away your time.

Designed as a British Pub complete with casks et al set on the walls and various bric-a-brac and posters, there is also a separate area where the most happening bands of Kolkata play everyday, Monday through Saturday. Guest bands are also invited on numerous occasions, such as Sivamani,Zero,Insomnia etc and such nights really spice up Someplace Else.

The entire atmosphere resembles a family/friends gathering and everyone spends a relaxing and most enjoyable evening.

The most enjoyable fact about the pub is that there isn't any entry fee(besides a few occasions) and the staff are very helpful and friendly. To top it all, it isn't all that expensive considering that Someplace Else is part of a 5 star hotel. From 4.30 till 8.30, you can get drinks at a discounted rate, and the crowd really pours in.

Most of the crowd, apart from the regulars who are usually office goers are guys who study in schools and colleges. The friendly DJ even plays your requests for any particular song even if you bore him to death, and his choices are never-ending.

I would certainly recommend Someplace Else to anybody from 15 to 85...if you have been to Kolkata and haven't visited Someplace Else, do so. It's an experience you'll enjoy immensely, and if you want to stretch your legs, rest assured you can comfortably do so till late into the night unlike in some other metropolitan cities in India.

NOPLACE ELSE

SOMEPLACE ELSE! Well if one considers the genre of the music being played by the live bands (especially The Saturday Night Blues Band, Skinny Alley et al.), it is really a place where there IS something different and hence is welcome; but then the pub in its present incarnation will qualify only as THE LAST PLACE to hang out when the controversial discotheque TANTRA (in the same hotel) is overcrowded. I wish I could shower plaudits on this place. I want to. I just love their music. The lighting is okay in tune with the different genre of music being belted out by the live bands; but then try and sit in the few seats near the stage. The speakers almost bark at your legs, being horribly close. The sound from such high decibel electrifying floor mounted JBL speakers so close makes you wanna say: STOP IT DEAR(S)!ITS A REAL TORTURE FOR MY EAR(S). The place having no entry fee/cover charge is a facility often abused by one and all. WHY SPEND ABOUT 500 BUCKS ON ENTRY TO A DISCOTHEQUE (LIKE TANTRA) ON SATURDAY NIGHT?BETTER SPEND THE SAME MONEY ON A FEW MORE ROUNDS OF BOOZE.MAKES A HELLUVA LOT OF SENSE.DOESN'T IT? Well!Talk about the MOTIVATION given to certain people(some only) to get really tipsy and spoil the ambience of the nightclub and with it the experience of others. A cover charge (which includes a coupon of the same price, to be redeemed against drinks inside) should certainly be introduced. The service is atrocious to say the least. However a decent selection of alcoholic beverages and cocktails are available. Price is okay. Finger food available is nothing to write home about; and of course if you have 300 people crowding into a reportedly 30 cover nightclub-cum-bar, wear CATERPILLER BOOTS. They have steel toes. Bouncers are somewhat conspicuous by their absence sometimes giving rise to a free-for-all. Doesn't help the families(men with their socially and legally married wives) much. The manager somehow gives the feeling that it is SOMEPLACE ELSE for only a select group of guests.

Pros : SATURDAY NIGHT BLUES BAND .

Cons: CLAUSTROPHOBIA,BREATHLESSNESS,HORRIBLE ACOUSTIC PROBLEM , ATROCIOUS SERVICE AND PROPENSITY TO FOOT INJURY.

''Someplace else'' truly connotes the literal meaning of the term. The ambience, food, drinks in conjunction with the live band playing does take you to someplace else, from life?s humdrum.

Starting from the seating arrangement, which gives a feel of the old English country pubs to the food and drinks served, is worth appreciation.

One of the best features of the pubs policy is the ''Happy Hour Rates'' which are till 8:00pm. Though the pub is a part of a 5 star hotel, the happy hour rates are phenomenally low.

The live bands too create an amazing environment. Coming out from the pub is a jolt back to reality.

The place is very lively; the only drawback is the darkness or the lack of proper lighting. Another thing that needs to be kept in mind is the parking problem.....one must take care of this bit.

Overall an excellent place to be in; especially on Saturday nights.

This place was meant to be a quite timeless meeting joint for people who enjoy unwinding their day in relaxing ambience.

This place used to provide them an atmosphere to catch up with themselves before retiring for the day, subsequently what happen to this place was horrible ; all hip shaking mortals who jus wanted fun ( ________) were into it looking for some quickie and what not,

Now this place has evolved after opening of Tantra ( A discotheque) in same premises , now these nite prowlers wish to be in Tantra and leave ( except on Saturdays and sundays) This Cool comfortable soft music place to persons who enjoy time and taste .

A good place to be on week days . Never be there on Saturdays and sundays if you want to enjoy your time and drink.

Its a nice cozy dark place to be at when you feel to talk you out.

Icecream Parlour in the New Market

This is a place to whet your whistle and have a good refreshing cooling ice cream. Meet your friends or just listen to the music. I have been there many a time years ago it used to host a juke box. Unfortunately now there is no such thing. But I still have my memories and can enjoy the ambience and friendliness. One can have food and drinks. Nice to know children are also welcome. It is bang centre in the New Market. Best meeting place in Calcutta where one can buy virtually anything. The waiters are very kind and courteous - what more could you want.

Truly a Pub!

Albeit when this place opened up it was something of a hotch-potch. The set is more on the lines of a small pub but was originally a disco where the youth (and the wannabe youth) went regularly to gyrate till the wee hours of the morning (Mumbaikars eat ur heart out).

Now after the much hyped Tantra, this place has reverted to the original cause.

It is truly a pub now with great music throughout the week.

Local groups like Hip Pocket (one of the best in Calcutta), Krosswindz and others play on weekdays. There used to be special days with offers for advertising people, I remember but don't know whether that still exists.

Also responsible for giving loads of young bands opportunities. Remember seeing a group of youngsters there called Soundcheck or sumthin', they were better than most of the established bands there. The music is amazing, bordering on Rock and Blues. Allman Brothers, Doors, Queen, ELO, America and the like.

Just one complain though, please stop playing ''Summer of 69'', and that's a request to every pub owner in the country.

There is no entry fee, liquor flows like water during the Happy Hour and even till much later. The cocktails are amazing. What might put you off though are the managing staff who feel they are the hippest of the lot (but the poor lot don't realise they just work there).

Bartenders are better, with good drink sense and better conversational sense. Though the someplace else veterans have been moved to Tantra now. The televisions however could concentrate on just sports instead of muted music channels, doesn't make sense that way.

Great place to be in, slightly expensive but get there by 8.30 to order your drinks.

Hic!
