Me and my wife decided to go for our honeymoon to manali. After 3 months of searching the web like a hawk I realised two things, the web has some "made up" ratings and reviews. Secondly there are two kinds of hotels in manali, one which is cheap and not worth staying in if you are on a honeymoon and second which is good but very expensive. In short I knew if I had to enjoy luxury at manali it would come for a price.
I zeroed down to Ambassador resort and Solang Valley resort. What I personally wanted was excellent service, excellent food and excellenty location/view and didnt want to compromise on that. And Solnag valley resort scored more on the last factor more than ambassador.
We booked the maharaja suite for around 34k for 5 nights 6 days with breakfast and dinner...expensive. But what followed in the coming days did justice to the kind of money we spent. We had spent 3 nights in Eastbourne Resort (shimla) in the expensive superior deluxe room and our expectations vis a vis the room and food had risen.
Lets start with the rooms....The rooms are spacious, neat and clear, bathrooms well maintained. It was not a luxury freaks dream come true but still good. There is no 24 hrs hot water in the hotel (something which was disappointing) but from what I gathered is that hardly any hotels have 24 hrs hot water facility. We were upgraded to the presidential suite for the 4th and 5th night. It was AWESOME. It has a spacious living room and bedroom, huge balcony and a HUGE bathroom with a jacuzzi.....now thats what I call luxury....(check out the pics). So as far as rooms are concerned I will give it a 4.5 out of 5 (-0.5 because of no 24hrs hot water for a ITC welcomheritage chain of resorts).
Food : Me and my wife both are big time foodies. The food was excellent, though the choice was limited in the buffet system. Though everyday we had a different spread. Same with breakfast. Dont forget to try the mushroom on toast. It left us craving for more.
Though the choice of desserts on the menu is limited they are all very good. However the food is very expensive if you are ordering from the menu.....food gets a 4.8 out of 5, though I am sure my wife would give it a complete 5.
Service : This is where I was the most impressed. In all the reviews on the net I had read about solang, special mention was made about the service and the courteous staff over there. And this was one of the things which prompted me to go for this resort , coz if you are not comfortable with the service the whole fun will be damaged. Right from the reception (Mr ravi - always smiling and warm) to the laundry guys, to the waiters, everone is so well mannered and warm...they make you feel at home. Housekeeping is quick to respond and laundry is not too expensive either. I would give it a 5 out of 5 here.
Location : Astounding.......snowcapped mountains right in front of you and the serene sound of the river beas flowing makes you want to spend the whole day in your balcony but its too cold :).....awesome location......i think the best location and view any hotel has. (check the pics to believe it)
Others : they arranged for cultural programmes and stuff every night, massage etc etc. But what the heck I went there to enjoy luxury, food and the snow and I was not disappointed at all.
Me and my wife have no doubts about where we will be staying when we go to manali again.......
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
