Tirthankar and I decided to chip in and give a birthday treat to colleagues and Boss. I was informed that there are only two booking slots here, 1300 hours and 1430. We chose the former and reached the place in the nick of time.
The place is owned by Speciality Restaurants Limited- owners of Mainland China, Oh Calcutta, Machaan, Mezzuna, Sweet Bengal, Haka and Kebbeh. So the fine dining was assured of.
There were eleven of us, the boss Nizam, the girls - Deepa, Sonia, Archana, Kiran and Sadiya and the gents - Baljit, Prasanna, Sachin, besides us, the two hosts.
We were first served with welcome drinks, which was Kokum coolers with soda. Not soo very tempting, could've done better with a wee bit more kokum syrup.
Starters on the table - 10 veg and 10 non veg we were told. Didn't count, but whatever we had - most of them seekh and live grill - we liked. The Sonia starters were Broccolli grill, pineapple cubes grill, paneer cubes grill, and baby corn. There was also a spread of breads with hummus and different dips(Huh?) The Non Sonia starters were chicken seekh, fish seekh, prawns seekh and lamb balls. There was also dimsums, chicken, prawns and veg. We were also served tossed salad. One of the chutneys, onion tamarind one, was simply out of the world.
Soups were not offered nor did we enquire. Maybe we missed it, or they did.
Off for the main course. The spread was generous with Indian Thai and Continental offerings.Mutton biryani, Chicken gravy, Roast Chicken with oven roasted potatoes, Prawns in green Thai curry, yellow dal, white rice, and innumerable other veggies. We were also served pizza and pasta on the table.
Finally the creme de la creme, the desserts. I wont bother enumerating them, there were cakes, gulab jamun, moong dal halwa, mango preparation, cut fruits and three varieties of ice cream. I had butterscotch ice cream, on which I sprinkled choco chips, butter scotch sugar chips, almond gratings, cashew crumbs and fine coconut. A heady concoction by my own standards.
Its as if they would like to smother you with variety. And most of them - A One. One has to visit this place, even if only for experience.
The downers, the price is too high - INR 650 for weekends. And the impersonal and inadequate service.
