Sigandur is located near Shimoga, Karnataka. It is a small town where the river sharavathi flows.
Since it is near the famous jog falls, you can plan a trip to both these places one day each.
Sigandur has beautiful forests on the way and best time to visit is during and after monsoons if you want to experience that cool weather and the wonderful climate of that region.
Sigandur is famous for its temple, located in the forest, which requires you to cross the river and take a bus to the very old, but powerful Chowdeshwari temple.
It is totally a wonderful feeling. You have to go near the river and a boat like thing, called launch, which takes around forty people and a few vehicles at once can be boarded to cross the river. You can see a few water birds in the river and the landscape view is beautiful! It takes around 10 to 15 minutes to cross the river, and from there, you will get buses to the temple which is located in the jungle.
If you happen to take a car or something, you can take it in the launch and drive to the temple. Since we had been in a tempo traveler, in a group of around 12 or 13, we took the bus.
The temple is awesome and its surroundings are very calm and refreshing.
If you go behind the temple, you can find the beautiful forest with such fresh air! You wouldn't feel like leaving that place. I totally loved being there.
You can come back by the same route and the launch keeps coming and going all day and there were two of them.
This is a must visit place if you are planning to go to Shimoga!
