When we arrived, our reservation was immediately spotted and we were promptly seated.
The interiors and ambiance are excellent - superb lighting. That pretty much sets the tone for your dining experience.
The starters(dim sum) are in small portions - 3 pieces to a plate. We'd ordered the crab and also spicy chicken dim sums - both were tasty.
The mains were in healthier portions and were adequate for two.
Gopal who served us recommended the Korean Lamb to go with the Mi Goreng - excellent recommendation - we loved it.
Mud slide for dessert wrapped it up for us - it was good too.
It is fine dining - so expect to pay up for the experience - it was worth it for us.
Shiro is a pleasant restaurant, featuring what seems to be a Pan-Asian, non-fusion menu. Situated at an impressive location at UB City, with film-set like interiors, Shiro impresses immediately.
Slightly over-the-top, but impressive nonetheless. The service is prompt and quite pleasant. The food here is decent. Ambiance is soothing. Try the Fig Mojito ? an Old Monk based Mojito with Figs crushed with mint.
YOUR RATING ON
I love Shiro for its ambiance and the liveliness that it exudes! The decor is marvellous and if not for the food, one must visit the place only to see the interiors and get a feel of this place. I generally go here with friends and we have a great time here. We all really love the food served here and the stewards who are ever helping and very prompt.
We start off by having the very traditionally Japanese Miso Soup! Gosh, I just love this soup. The Buldak is exceptionally great and so is the Crispy Fire Cracker Prawns. The Prawns Mongolian Parcels too look very cute and taste good too, they come wrapped in Wontons and taste heavenly with the various dipping sauces. The Makimono too is incredible! This consists of Japanese rice wrapped in nori, which is served with Kikkoman soy sauce, wasabi and pickled ginger.
The Shredded Spicy Chicken Salad too is very well done! You can try the Clay Pot Rice with Fish or Chicken is a great choice to make. It is here that you can get the real and authentic Sake, rice wine and do sample it, which will really transport you to Japan.
There are no Japanese sweet dishes served here, so you could settle for a Pie or a Tiramisu if you feel that your meal is incomplete without a sweet dish.
Shiro is a fine resturant but the only concern is its highly over-priced if I compare the quantity. We had gone for a dinner and had ordered a dimsum starter. we got 3 small sized dimsums for 250/-
sushi platters - awesome taste and beautiful presentation. the sushi fish were so divine specially the tuna, salmon.
Soup - decent but few chicken and prawn pieces were there. So overall, for such small quantity of food like in starters, appetizers, soup, the price can be less. Else they can provide decent quantity of food for 2 people.
Decor is very beautiful and breathtaking. Service is fast. I was surprised at the speed with which all the orders arrived. Food was warm and good for a nice evening with your loved ones. Would recommend if you want to just spend good time with good food but as said, price and quantity can disappoint you.
I have been here a couple of times and find the food pretty good. I do agree with some, who think that the food is overpriced and yes it does seem so. Certain simple dishes too are exorbitantly priced and shelling out so much money might seem foolish sometimes.
The usual fare that I like here is- their Sweet Chilli Potatoes, which consists of potatoes dunked in sweet chilly sauce, miso and sesame seeds.
The Chicken Yakitori too is excellent and made to perfection. The Prawns Tempura too is delicious and worth trying out. For the Mains, go for Mushroom and Baby corn in Thai Barbeque Sauce. If you are looking for something in meat, then Chicken in Chilli Mustard Sauce is a must have! This to go with Garlic Fried Rice, is an absolutely mouth-watering combination.
You could also try out their noodles- Japchae. They are noodles made with sweet potato and are very unique and exquisite.
For desserts, you could go with the Mississippi Mudslide and that is really heavenly indeed. Shiro is a must-try at least once, so collect all your money and visit this place soon.
I love dim sum - traveled a lot and can honestly say this is the best dim sum I have ever had! The buffet is around Rs. 2000 per person (I went on a Saturday and I think the buffet ends at 3) but its perfectly reasonable price for what you get. I loved the Sushi too! Highly recommended!!
