THE BEST,RISKY PLACE TO HANGOUT and EXPERIENCE NEW
Dec 02, 2018 11:06 PM7614 Views

Hi Guys,

I'm writing genuine and latest reviews on our recent visit to the SAVANDURGA TREK(01-DEC-2018) and great experience we had with it.

Please take your time to go through the reviews. I'll straight away start. Here it goes -

Absolutely no doubt, it's one of the best nature hill trek anyone can enjoy. Near to the Bangalore city and one can think of 1 day trip.

What's the Best?

  1. If you really want to enjoy the beauty of nature, try to reach there by 6:00 / 6:30 am bit early in the morning.

Coming there after 8:00 am Sunny time, there is no point in trekking as heat worsens your trek and start too much DE-hydrating yourselves.

  1. You will surely loose yourself in such beauty of rock and hilly nature area.

Climbing is really fun and after finishing you feel big accomplishment of something challenging(as it's mentioned, largest monolith in entire ASIA). It's amazing!

Rather than best part of this place, I'll write what should be taken care more? Anyway others might have written similar, but I really need EVERYONE to be very careful on these things as we came across one very bad incident. I don't have intention of any de-motivating here. Just few awareness(A PUC 2nd Year young boy passed away just in-front of our eyes while we were returning back and shocked to see his death because of minor negligence), and SAME SHOULD NOT happen to anybody again!

  1. This place is first of all, NOT AT ALL SUITABLE DURING THE RAINY SEASON and NIGHT TREK. Risking yourself, directly you'll be in mortuary of the hospital. Very less probability of surveillance. Not good and avoid it completely.

  2. This place is not recommended for the CHILDREN, OBESITY(FAT) and AGED(OLD) PEOPLE. If it's first time trek, it might take 2-3 Hrs depend on energy of the trekkers.

  3. Go with suitable Trekking comfortable dress and MOST IMPORTANTLY, PROPER TREK SHOES which don't slip on the rock.

  4. Carry as much as water bottles and energy snacks to keep yourself active during the trek. You won't get anything to drink/eat except at the base station.

  5. Once started trekking, there are no any support to hold while climbing(like rail bars, rope etc., ). PLEASE BE IN THE GROUP, HOLD EACH Other's HANDS and Climb. Keep motivating and help others. THIS IS NOT A RACE who reaches first and get best timing.

  6. There you MAY NOT get any Guide. As guidance, there are SOME WHITE and YELLOW ARROW MARKS ON THE ROCKS IN BOTH THE DIRECTIONS. You just need to follow those. DO NOT DEVIATE FROM THE ARROW MARKS. Else, you will loose yourself somewhere. There are some square marks they have made on the rocks just to support your legs and not get slipping.

  7. We being as INDIANS we are very much addicted to SOCIAL MEDIAS taking Pics and posting instantly in WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram. Guys, please avoid these non-sense activities on this trekking place specially. You will loose the balance and YOU WILL SEE YOURSELF IN NEWS PAPER NEXT DAY.

If you want photos, stand in one place properly with group and click aaram se. However, once you reach top, nice place to take the photos.

  1. This Trekking place is specially has very steep rocks and slight jerk leads to falling from the top.

  2. DO NOT ACT, JUMP and DO NOT DO ANY UNNECESSARY activities apart from Trekking.

  3. LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT THING .(KIND KIND REQUEST O EVERYONE)

AGAIN BEING AS EDUCATED, FEW PEOPLE ARE DESTROYING THE NATURE'S BEAUTY BY THROWING EATABLES, PLASTICS COVERS, OTHER MATERIALS WHATEVER THEY BRING FOR TREKKING. GUYS, NATURE HAS GIVEN US SO MUCH BEAUTY PLACE AND ITS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAINTAIN and TAKE CARE OF IT.

I URGE THE TOURISTS / TREKKERS TO MAINTAIN THE CLEAN. Carry with you big polythene bags and just collect all your wastes, garbage in that plastic and bring it down the hill and throw in common dump yard. Don't throw anything in the Hill.

If we take precautions, do proper and well plannings there are NO ANY HARMS during this trekking. No dangerous then.

You can really enjoy the Trekking and have lot of fun.

So, please be aware on DOs and DON'Ts during this trekking. Have a memorable and happy time there.

Great Place to visit
Nov 17, 2018 12:18 PM5650 Views

This place is ideal for enthusiastic trekkers but beware to reach the top you must carefully follow the arrow marks. Else there are possibilities of getting lost, I recommend to go in groups. The view from the top is simply ecstatic, avoid climbing when the climate is rainy because there is every possible chance of slippage.

Savandurga is basically a hill station located the Bengaluru in the Karnataka state of India. The Savandurga Hill is around 1226meter above the sea level. We can see there an Arkavati river passes near to the hills toward the dam. The black hill and the white hill makes the Savandurga. Guys the Savandurga hill is full of nature and we can find the peace on the Savandurga hills. Guys start your trek early morning before sunrise. Because the view from the top of the Savandurga hills is incredible. U can enjoy the sunrise and feel the faith in your mind. Please visit the temple of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, the idol of god has been worshiped for many generations. In safety point of view, the guard is available for our safety and stay with friends while trekking. Take lots of water and food while trekking even if you think that much water is enough then also I recommend to take 3 water bottles while trekking. The nice thing is there is nice Manchanabele Dam which is just great. You can reach the Savandurga by Bus which is available from The KR Market and will drop you to the base of the hill. One can find there a lot of adventure. Happy journey

Hill tricking-savandurga
Mar 02, 2016 03:46 PM24573 Views (via Android App)

It Is 70 kms from bangalore. It is hill tricking station near by bangalore. We can go for a one day picnic.

Hill tricking will be nice with friends we can enjoy with our friends more than going with our family. Its not a family picnic area.

Its totally a trecking place. To trek up the hill and back it easily takes aboit 4 hours and more.Ideally u can start early as afternoons can get really hot in summers. No hotels available over there

One intresting thing is at the end of trek before reaching the top of the peak there is tower which is very dengerous to cross because the path is only on two wodden poles, the wodden poles are around 5 feet and beneath is a gorge.

Please do carry sufficient water bottles, food items we cant even find water and food items over there.

Nice place for one day trip.

Savandurga is in Karnataka state and 50 Km from the Bangalore city. Convenient to go from Bangalore but if you are going with your own vehicle then its best.

Savandurga is a hill station where you can see the big hill surrounded by the forest a pretty view and it is just hurt touching place. I went to this place with my friends and we really enjoyed.

There is hill climbing and so many movie shoot happens here if you are lucky then you can see some movie shoot. You will find so many monkeys here and there is one wishing well, people use to say if you want something wish and put the coin inside it. Nice place and so many stories there.

I like this place so much there is so much silent as this place is away from city noise   I only don’t like one thing that this place is not so much developed. So be aware of everything and be in group. I will love to recommend this place to each and every one.

Nice place for picnic but nothing much to see!
Jul 25, 2015 02:51 PM32677 Views

I have been to this place two times, but climbed the hill only once.

It is located away from Magadi. It is advisable to take your own vehicle as there is bus till Magadi, but after that you'll have to take auto or some other means. There are a few private vehicles that go that way which I think is not so safe.

Sharing auto will be a better option if you choose public transport. Once you reach that place, you'll find a temple and a little further, there is a forest, dry deciduous forest which is not so explorable as there are too many thorny bushes and towards your left, if you walk straight, you will reach the hill and place to climb the hill.

It is advisable to choose a cloudy day or cool day for trekking, or else the sun is killing by the time you reach above and get back. Carry good amount of water. You will also get juice and stuff above after you climb.

There is a little temple like structure which is ruins of the past. The view is beautiful from above the hill. You will really feel good once you are up and all that tireness just vanishes and the cool air soothes your mind and heart.

Sun might ruin all this if you reach there by afternoon on a sunny day, so keep a check on the whether forecast before you go. It is a hillock with 2 hills, white hill(bili betta) and black hill(kari betta). It takes around 2 hours to climb the hill and come back and of course excluding the time spent over there. So it is totally worth spending a day in savan durga.

You don't get proper lunch over there as it is a village and there are no hotels, so its better to pack lunch before hand. You will find a few monkeys on the hill. Not dangerous though, but you can find many monkeys below, near the forest side. You can also get coconut water before climbing the hill, it is better to have a drink before you climb.I would recommend this place for trekking if you are feeling a little adventurous and would want to go somewhere nearby to Bangalore. As this is not obviously the best place for trekking.

Savandurga the natural beauty in Karnataka
Jul 14, 2015 01:12 AM31178 Views

Savandurga is a hill station in Karnataka just 60km west Bangalore off Magadi road in India. This hill is considered as the largest monolith hills in Asia. I went to this place in month of August but this place is really cool to go in September you will even feel the cloud if you go on top hill.

People come here for hill climbing, picnic and to enjoy the natural beauty. There is so many monkeys which will never harm you. There is a famous temple in that forest and you too find saints, this place is hot place for the Kannada movie shootings. You will get frequent bus from this place so if you are going by bus not to worry for anything.

I like the natural flora of the entire area, which you make you feel pleasant about this place. This area is not safe in night as I felt because people don’t know other language except Kannada local language of Karnataka. Auto people charge you a lot if they come to know that you are not from Karnataka. I am planning to do hill climbing for the next time whenever I go and want to touch the clouds. I will recommend this place to all tourist who are from Karnataka or other part of Karnataka, you should must go once for sure

Savandurga, a group trip
Jan 09, 2011 03:45 PM52062 Views

We started our journey from bangalore @ 7.30 AM and reached the destination @ 11 AM, we had to pick up a total of 40 people for the trip.

As we reached the place, we had a feel of the forest by its sign board "Savabadurgha State forest" right in front of the farm house that we all stayed.

As we got down from the bus, we walked towards a fenced area with lot of mango, coconut and so may trees on our way to reach our tents.

Individual tents was arranged for all of us, encircling our camp fire area for the night.A big pit of 7 feet was behind the tents to ensure that we don't disturb the animals.

We had a decent breakfast and jumped back in to the bus to travel few kilometers to start our first activity, "Cave Explorations".

As we got down from the bus, we saw a temple, where a small procession was happening behind the temple was the largest monolithic rock, it was really huge, should be at least twice the size of the Giza pyramids in Egypt.

(I have visited the pyramids) best part of it all, my eyes captured four human souls climbing the huge rock in the mid day sun. I enquired with the instructor along with us about them, he replied they should be foreigners or local people who take the best out of this place.

Their destination will be to reach a small temple

on the peak of this rock, fortunately we are not doing this activity, we are still no voice.

Cave Exploration:-

The Instructor strictly asked all to carry water with us.We started our journey towards the cave through bushes, pits, small rocks, no plain land to reach the natural caves.

Truly and honestly this is a natural cave, sometimes you have to crawl, jump, climb, all these as a team to reach the peak of the hill through these caves, this was a real test for our physic.

We all got dehydrated soon, the water helped us to get back to our toes. That was fun and also adventures.

Rappeling:-

To Rappel down the rocks, we had to climb a tree and then again through the rocks to reach the peak.

This was very exciting, all the possible safety measure were taken for this, each one of us tried to get this adventures experience.

Lunch break:-

We finished our Rappelling activity @ around 2PM and walked back few kilometers for the lunch. The lunch was good with Chicken dish for the Meat eaters.

Archery & Rope chain:-

After our lunch we did some easy activity like archery, we split ourselves in to team with a instructor for it to guide us.

Followed by that we had a swing down for a 30 feet high place all down to the ground by the rope, it was fun, a kind of free falling.

Kayaking:-

As time passed by we realized it was 5PM when we all about to have a wonderful experience of kayaking in a silent lake beside very huge rocks.

It was my first experience to do this activity, I don't know to swim, but I still had courage to do this activity, cause I love to do it, trusted on myself and the life jacket, sat on the very smallest kayak, only that was left for me and listened carefully to the instructor, but I could get only two words out of it, balance then control with the

rower.

Honestly, you need a lot of stamina to do this activity and a perfect body balance. I did it all and was very happy that I did it in style.

Night Stay:-

We walked back to the bus, and came back to the tents, Overall for all of us, it was a exciting and tiresome experience through out the day.

Once back to the tent, we managed with a rest room, that is what we could afford for... ha ha and got freshen up.

As usual, dark started to overtake the brightness, bonfire was daring the darkness, and we all started to make Merry on the effort we had put in the whole day by food and dance.

Early Morning:-

Later that night we all went for sleep inside our tent, it was very cold, and we could see the dew on our tents early that morning.

I am sure we all would have slept for few hours, but I woke up much early and came to the bone fire and started getting some heat, slowly few more people joined me and we had a nice walk to have our tea in the village.

On our way we saw the beautiful Savandurgah mountain (rock) looking at herself in the lake, the reflection of the rock on the lake in a natural way was worth watching.

We were three and I am sure we will cherish the moment when we remember that again. We had our Breakfast, and there were other set of new people to start their journey in Savandurgha.

When I saw them, felt they will surely have a adventures and tiresome experience. After our Break fast, we started back to Bangalore with lot of experience to share with other....

Overall the trip was adventures and a real test to our physic.

Savandurga Rocks!

We went through axeadventure.com, Be sure that you plan properly with all basic stuff for a night stay.

Hope you find my experience good and useful.

Shivgange, a test of physical endurance
Apr 20, 2008 06:26 AM18588 Views

Shivgange is an ideal religious cum adventure trip for a family or group of friends.  One has to travel on NH4 to reach Dobbaspet  and take a left turn beneath the flyover.  The total distance is 62 km from Blore.

Things to see @ Shivagange are Sharada Peet, Pataganga, Yoganarashima temple, Veerabhadra temple, Hidden water spring( accessible for lucky people), and other small temples.  Enroute one encounters different sizes of Nandi.  There is a subramani temple and augustiya thirta too.

Ascending the hillock can be very tiresome and not meant for physically unfit.  One should take care to wear good cushioned  footwear with grip so that one avoids skids and slippery surface.  The monkey’s enroute can be nasty, trying to snatch foodstuff and other eatables.  They don’t grab at water bottles thankfully.  It is better to leave behind foodstuff in the vehicle or at ground zero. Please don t be misguided by people advising you to leave behind your footwear at the ground level.

The temples have been modified with lime or chunna paint, destroying the originality of the Chola and Vijaynagar sculptures.  One can witness the original beauty of artisan’s work in the desolate temple just besides Patalganga.  These edifices are ignored by the priests and temple management.  ASI should initiate proceedings to take over the temple to protect the heritage.

Climbing to the peak of the Shivgange is quite physically demanding, it is better to undertake trip early morning @ around 7 am to 8 am or in the evening before 5 pm.  One can really enjoy if one is inclined to live upto the challenge of overcoming obstacles in life.  If one feels their knees are jerky and obese persons are advised to abort the ascent @ Veerbhadra temple which is the midpoint.

Get your bags packing if you are looking for checking out your physical fitness, forget threadmill test, Shivgange is a real litmus test for physical fitness.

AamAadmi Conquers Fort of Death & Sees a King! ;-)
Jun 19, 2007 10:23 AM28446 Views

Plan: Unlike my previous trip this had no ‘planning’ [ read postponing ]. My partner in crime I mean trekking is a classmate who also happens to be a jungly like me. Now I am jungly not only bcos I hail from places known for its greenery, mountainry & junglery, but also bcos I have an yahoo id !!! (remember ‘Yahoo ..chahe koyi muje jungly kahe !!

This Place is full of huge granite monoliths & million big boulders. Savanadurga is a area with two huge mountains (besides others) & a vast valley around. About 60kms from Bangalore. There are a couple of temples at its base & a small park. This is best for a one day outing either with family or with friends for adventure. The steep hills are any trekkers delight, though there is a less difficult way to the utmost top. On top at the edge of cliff is a small Nandi. At most places the slope is 70-80 degree, which makes it a challenging trek.

Travel: First route, Bangalore > Magadi road > just before Magadi take left towards Ramanagaram >11kms> a welcome arch > 3kms inside > you are at the base. The longer route is reaching Ramanagaram on mysore road > right towards Magadi > reach the arch & then ditto. We took Mysore Road > ‘Big Banyan Tree’ > back to Mysore Road > Ramanagaram > Savanadurga > & returned via Magadi Route.

Big Banyan Tree is a 400 year old tree. It spreads around an area of 4 acres. Its primary stem is no more. The aerial roots of the banyan tree are nourished & they in turn grow as stems & this is how the tree has spread.

Ride to Savanadurga: As if the rocky mountains & boulders dotting either side of Mysore road till Ramanagaram were not enough, we get more of them on the deserted clean road leading to Magadi. We stop at many places to take pics. After many such mountains comes in the horizon 2 real huge mountains. We recognize them as our destination!!

The climb: in Saavan ka Mahina the rock may be slippery, but otherwise it has a rough surface. Even with slopes of 70-80 degree its climbable until you turn back & see. Thighs & ankles soon begin paining. We tried at a vertical climb for a while & then resorted to much tested & tried path of meandering our way on to the top. By this way, the path is marked & slopes being milder even kids & ladies can reach the top. At a relaxed pace we are at peak within 2 hours. We were surprised to see sheep near the top, relaxing at the edge of cliff. They think ‘grass is green on the upper side’ !! I wondered at how fearlessly they were sitting at the edge of the cliff. its bcos of our minds that we fear … they don’t have minds, so don’t mind sitting at the edge – I thought !! we reached top & had our lunch there. There is a guy who carries Ice Candies all the way to the top, in thermacool ice box & sells it there @ 5 Rs each. Compare this with our PVR who charge exorbitant for pepsi?? ;-) The Descent took 1 hour.

2 Kinds of Mazaa: I got a lot of Mazaa on this trip. Little Mazaas include the ride, the scenic country side road, clicking mountains along, wondering at the size of the twin mountains etc. But 2 Mazaas are worth a separate mention ;-) First is the joy of climbing the rock & reaching heights & turning back to see how much we covered & looking ahead to how much is left. By this time all your muscles ( esp thigh, calf, ankle) will be stretched & paining .. but then some ad claimed ‘Dard Mein bhi Mazaa hain’ ;-) .. by the time you reach the top, muscles no longer pain bcos they are stretched beyond feeling the pain. That’s the good news. Bad news is now the pain is in the joints, bones ..and bone marrows !!! while descending you can feel the muscles coming back to life, by way of their trembling, as you get down.

The second type of Mazaa comes later ;-) as late as next day!! Somehow you climb & descend, travel back & sleep well!! But it wont be a ‘Sleep well for a great day’ as Kurl On Ad says. Even if you sleep well, next day itna ‘Mazaa’ aayega ki you will ‘enjoy’ even climbing stairs!!! This will be the case with most sedentary beings, who don’t have regular physical activity. So as a precaution choose Saturday to climb, so you get Sunday to recuperate.

King in Sight: As we were riding back from the hill @6pm the empty road ahead of me shows a movement about 60ft ahead of me. Thanks to National Geo & Animal Planet I reckon it as a Leopard. The leopard also hears the engine sound. After a microsecond of pause it, within which it looks at us & then runs across the road to the green cover & disappears. My friend even tried shouting ‘Hey’ at it, but the Leopard wasn’t convent educated, so didn’t respond. If only we had called him in kannada ;-) Since the region doesn’t have any lions, I think it’s the ‘leopard king’ who rules here. ;-) .. Remember how Daya took video EVEN with camera off ? we did better!! We took video/pics of the king EVEN with the camera in our bag!! .. the images got stored in our own memory!!

Suggestions: Go preferably with friends. Carry your own food. Most men & some young women complete the climb. If you have come in a group its preferable to leave the unwilling women below at the temple etc & they can sit there praying for you. If you take them along, chances are that midway they start asking to return. I saw at least 3-4 cases like this. In one case a IT team with 2 girls were climbing when we were getting down. The girl asked me ‘how much more up we have to go’. I broke the girls heart saying ‘what you have climbed is only 1/3’. As I moved down, I heard the girls say ‘You ppl make it to the top & come back, we will be right here’ !!! ..so moral of the story is don’t force women all the way to the top, unless you have plans of standing at the edge of the cliff & Profess your love saying ‘in your love I can even jump from here’. [hope she doesn’t say ‘go ahead’ !!] ;-) ..and if you plan to climb both peaks on a single day, be there early & be warned .. the Mazaa gets fourfold !
