Sanjay Dutt – Stylish & Versatile
The Indian Film Industry has great history, with all types of different characters and personalities. Just like different human beings have their different traits film artists have varying talents , looks & abilities. Some Excelled in comedy, some were great negative role players who enacted the villain to perfection, some could be so much in the heart of a tragic character or role that an audience would burst crying and some could express anger and vengeance like a flame burning within one's heart. However for sheer machismo and playing the role of an action hero whatever may be his limitations in talent Sanjay Dutt tops the list. In this short article I am paying a tribute to this great star on his 50 th birthday today on 29 th July.
Sanjay Dutt is easily the most stylish and macho actor of Bollywood. Born on July 29, 1959 to Legendary actress Nargis and Sunil Dutt very popular actor of yesteryears. Popularly known as Sanju baba, the man with the golden heart is much loved after actor in the Bollywood today.
Sanjay Dutt was blessed with a movie lineage, good looks and an inherent acting talent. His mother Nargis was known as the first lady of Indian cinema. One of the most talented, most graceful women of our silver screen. His father Sunil Dutt has had an enviable spell as an actor and an impeccable reputation as a politician. Being a star son of people like Nargis and Sunil Dutt can be both a blessing and curse. Blessings and curses have dogged Sanjay Dutt constantly through his life, almost in equal measure.
At the young age of twelve he made his first film appearance in his father’s film "Reshma Aur Shera" where he had a small role as a qawali singer. He started his film career with Rocky (1981). Although the film did well, but it failed to promote him as an established actor.
Despite the setback he faced when his mother died just before the release of his first movie, Rocky, produced and directed by Sunil Dutt and costarring Sanjay with Tina Munim was a hit. His next major movie was Vidhata which was a huge hit.
He worked in several action movies before he hit critical pay dirt with Naam (1986). This was director Mahesh Bhatt’s movie which is still held up as an example of a good movie. It is still referenced whenever Sanjay Dutt is called a good actor. The movie was a big hit and Sanjay Dutt, who was looking to reinvent himself after drug abuse, was back on the climb.
Though Sanjay Dutt's movies were predominantly action movies like Yodha,Hathyarand Fateh, aimed at front benchers he soon got a makeover thanks to Lawrence D'Souza movie Saajan. In Saajan, there was no action, in fact he played a handicapped young man who limps. The movie was a romantic triangle. Sanjay did a fabulous performance. His next was also a romantic movie, Sadak. Mahesh Bhatt made this gritty movie of a young man in love with a prostitute who must rescue her from her criminal pimps. Both the movie were big hits.
His next big movie was Subhash Ghai's Khalnayak. He was the title Khalnayak here, fallen into bad ways. An undercover police officer, Madhuri tries to help her lover, Jackie Shroff by tracking and capturing the Khalnayak
Then came a movie that turned his fortune around once again and consolidated his status as an all-time STAR. David Dhawan’s Haseena Maan Jayegi with Govinda, Karishm Kapoor and Pooja Batra. It explored the funny side of Sanjay Dutt. Even if the movie was a moderate hit, it paved the way to future block busters like Munnabhai MBBS & Lage Raho Munna Bhai.
Finally Mahesh manjrekar’s Vastaav (1999) a masterpiece movie, A typical bollywood mafia flick. The movie was gritty and realistic. Sanjay Dutt was fantastic as the simple boy turned mafia lord. He won Filmfare's Best Actor award and the movie is held up as one of the best Bollywood Gangsta movies.
So far, out of his vast and illustrious career, his signature movies have been Naam, Saajan, Sadak,Khalnayak,Vaastav and Munnabhai series. Vaastav came to him when his career was in doldrums and re-established him as an actor of substance.
Sanjay actually found more fame in the past few years, particularly after he starred in the 2003 movie, Munnabhai MBBS, about a lovable, do-gooder gangster.
The film became a commercial blockbuster, a feat repeated by its sequel, Lage Raho Munnabhai. That film saw Dutt espousing Indian freedom hero Gandhi’s non-violent principles, with hilarious results. The Munnabhai series have given him a unique identity, quite close to his real life persona of a good guy stuck in bad situations.
His personality is so awesome, that he does walk-on roles with equal ease and elan without any heed to the image that a star has to maintain. He is an actor and it's up to the director to draw out the best from him.
Sanjay has a very dominating presence on screen and is an excellent actor. The present breed of actors don't have the right blend of machismo and sensitivity. Sanjay does. We have stars who are either brawn or who are performers, never both. That's the reason why Sanju scores over them.
Today Sanjay Dutt has got it all what does he want now ? Now he wants great films. He always had it all but now there is no pressure of doing multiple films. He can work according to his desire. Aamir, Salman, Shahrukh ,Akshay came and then Hrithil Roshan, Fardeen but Sanjay Dutt is still there. He never aspired to or tried to be Number one like Shahrukh or Akshay.
In a period of twenty eight years in Bollywood, he has acted in more than hundred films which uplifted Sanjay Dutt and established him in the Film Industry though he had many ups and downs. Today he is one of the top ten Bollywood actors.
Sanjay Dutt is one of my all time favourite star & I am impressed about his versatility, intensity, emotionality and charisma. I respect him tremendously for the way he copes with the ups and downs in his life and for the strength he bears his fate with.
Despite his alleged underworld entanglements, Sanjay Dutt is still regarded as a good-hearted man haunted by a troubled past.
Throughout his life, Sanjay Dutt has frequently faced adversity, but he has usually triumphed, with his millions of fans solidly behind him.
Sanju Baba as an actor and as a human being, he's the finest person. He is one of the most gorgeous hunks in the industry, with a very powerful personality. Sanjay Dutt is the sexiest and handsomest man the industry has. The man only looks better with age."
Happy Birthday Sanju and all the best to you and to all the people you love. My love, admiration and respect will always be with you. May God bless you and grant you a life full of happiness, health and freedom.
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
