Many of us in Goa would not have heard of this place called - Rustic Retreat, which is having jungle cottages. Not sure, if it can be classified under as a farm house. We have been to this place at least 3 times, by now. The place keeps a low profile, not having any website, online reservations, reviews. nothing of that sort. It just runs by the way of word-of-mouth publicity.
Location: In a small, quiet village of Valpoi, which is a dense forest area. One needs to drive past Valpoi, Thane and ask locals for directions. There is a small mud road from the main road that leads to serene location, having well laid out cottages. Best to drive by your own vehicle.
Rooms/Ambiance: As soon as you reach the place you are completely taken over by the lush greenery around it.The place, as its named, is maintained as'Rustic'. Leave your cars at the parking lot and get to the reception. The resort manager will organize the booking formalities. The cottages are quite big, can be used as 3 different individual rooms or an entire cottage can be booked for a big family.
Rooms are equipped with basic needs Bed, AC, washroom, TV. This is a jungle resort so do not expect wi-fi or even a good mobile network. There is a natural water swimming pool for both kids and adults to enjoy. The place does not have much to offer besides its flora and fauna and the nature!
There is big lawn in front of the cottages which can be used for playing, holding activities, camp-fire or for barbecue.
Restaurant/Bar: This isn't like a hotel a-la-carte service. The package is inclusive of lunch, dinner, breakfast and evening tea and hence it offers buffet system food both in veg and non-veg. Food is usually kept to meet local style. There is liquor available, besides one can get their own bottles and they are happy to store in refrigerator. Also, one can get meat, fish which they can cook for you at extra cost. Also they will organize barbecue for you, if you insist.
What to do? To be frank, there is nothing to do at this place, other than enjoying the nature. I tell my folks, if you have come here enjoy the beauty of nature, don't even watch TV. Take long walks in dense forest, sit at the balcony seeing the fog or the rains, relax reading a book or play with kids, take a swim and so on. This place is for one to relax and unwind from the regular hustle bustle of city life.
Reservation: No online reservation, just drive-in to the place, and one is almost sure of getting the reservation as its mostly not occupied. C-in/c-out: 24 hrs Parking: Available
Price: Last year, we paid about 1500 per person for 1 night stay along with all meals.
Tip: Carry torch, take care from small creatures(mostly harmless) like millipedes.
