The Philips QT4005 Trimmer is one of the older trimmers from the company. I have used it for a few months and an in a position to review it. It is a smart looking trimmer with smooth body. In comparison, the QT4000 got a bit rough body. The locking length adjustment rotational button is better than the former. The overall body too is thinner and long which adds to the ease of use.
The lock length adjustment clip is a plastic one. Although it is not too fragile but one should take care while removing and re-fitting it. Also, keep it secure since without this clip, the lock adjustment button will be useless! The blade is robust and can be easily removed in order to clean. The charging cable too is of optimum length. This is an important factor since you would want to place your Philips QT4005 Trimmer at a safe area while charging and if the cable is small, things are not easy.
Usage
The Philips QT4005 Trimmer comes charged out of the box but it is not completely charged and will work only for 5-7 minutes. You need to provide the trimmer a charge of 10 hours after which it can be used for just 45 minutes. Now this might look disgusting on paper, a 45 minute usage is fine for trimming the beard as well as removing some unwanted body hair. Yes, it can be used to remove the body hair.
With the lock clip, one can do close trimming or go for the dense look. A total of 20 lock in settings are available. This means that you can use to trim the beard hair as short as 0.5 mm to as long as 10 mm. However, one thing should be taken care of. For the same length beard, the angle should be the same while trimming. If you use the Philips QT4005 Trimmer at different angles or shave one side up and the other side down, your beard will be of different lengths. Once you trim a couple of times, you will get a hang of it and can easily get hte desired look.
While Philips claims that the blades are rounded at the top, the same is not applicable to the corner two blades which are pretty sharp. Trimming the beard is fine but if you use it at underarms or chest, the blades at the edse might prick you. So, make use of the clipper and set it at 0.5 mm for the body hair.
Things To Note
Charging time is 10 to 15 hours
Cannot be used while charging
45 minutes of usage time
Does not overheat
Comes with 2 year warranty
What I disliked
The trimmer does not work when out of battery and plugged in. If you manage to run out of battery with half your beard trimmed, be prepared to wait for atleast 2 hours before you can startwith the other half.
To Sum Up
At a price point of Rs 1400 or $23, the Philips QT4005 Trimmer is a fine offering. However, I will advise you to spend Rs 1700 or $29 and go for the Philips QT4011 trimmer. It has a better battery life and the blades are better too.
