Philips HTS 6100

This is my first ever review on a product. so please bear if too many technical details not given here:)

About the Product: The Product is a 5.1 Channel Home-theater. It is different from other regular home theatre by no. of black box-speakers:) a normal 5.1 channel will have 5 speakers and a woofer(excl DVD player).

This on the other hand has one single Sound Bar with inbuilt DVD player and a single Woofer.

Ambisound is excellent for small size rooms sizes(150sft) like mine about(12X14)sft

User friendly remote: The remote is extremely user friendly and one can easily switch between various sources viz. USB, MP3 link, DVD, HDMI, TATA sky and FM radio.

Image clarity best for original DVDs: Watched 3 movies(Cast away, beautiful mind and Enemy of state) – all superb sound and image clarity( where as VCD does not have crystal clear image)

USB feature is what I liked the most – it can play songs and sideshow of all the photos that are on the pen drive @ same time(Portable Hard drive may not work- have to check that yet)

Check Accessories, if you are lucky you can also get an Ipod dock that can be connected to the Soundbar

FM gets auto programmed the first time you select it as source, This sounds amazing with the good Woofer

AMBISOUND: Sounds of Rain, Helicopter, drum beats, fighting scenes etc are crystal clear. Equilisers are preset and named as Concert/ Sports etc. You can enhance the sound by selecting basis positions(of how your sound bar is placed - Left/ Center/ Right of the Room) in the settings menu.

POWER SUPPLY: Power only Woofer and that powers the Sound bar too

Superb Contemporary looks- SOUND bar is Super Cool in looks, with sleek glass Slider that hides the DVD being played.

Pain area

Wall mounted Installation – Wall mounted soundbar and also LCD can be pain area.

Cable for TV audio out which is input to Sound bar does not come with sound bar, luckily we had old DVD cable(else New one comes for~Rs.700/ -)

The DVD placement is vertical in position – so it is little difficult to replace a DVD and change it with new one(a horizontal slider like CPU would've been easier to operate)

LEARNINGS

LCD should already be in the right position, vertically as well as horizontally

Center of LCD and Centre of Sound bar should match(to be checked with water/ spirit level)

Cable manager/ Management should be pre- thought as it’s a difficult process to mount and un-mount both the LCD+ sound bar again n again.

Recommended by me with following facts before you make decision to go ahead,

Cost is almost double than the regular home theaters, so go for it only if you want if for its stylish looks and are equally constrained for space. The fact that it occupies least space and is Compact works best.

I had to fiddle with a regular HT remote, where as this is extremely easy to operate.

Its also ideal as you do away with those additional 2 speakers on your left and right side(incl wiring hassles) V/s a regular home-theater.
