To start with quarter or so is a considerable measure of fun, a holding experience story told with a touch of penological knowledge. Be that as it may, then, through different escapes and catches, it starts to drag. The storyteller turns out to be more hypocritical, which takes away from the book's veracity, as he lists each minor occurrence, with him generally the legitimate and good better. By the midpoint, for each page of activity, there are five pages of "discourse" in which both companions and adversaries concede that Charriere is truly incredible, and he needs to modestly concur. It's scantily composed, however not exquisitely so. Not suggested.

Pappillon the name of the book and the person who wrote is Henri Charriere who faced the french penal system relentlessly and I have read it three times word by word though it is more than 500 pages and can read it again three times now.Though I read it more than 30 years back the rememberance is enough to write a review that can make the MS members to take this book and read it non stop.

YOU WILL READ THIS BOOK NON STOP AND FORGET YOUR FAMILY.

The reason why one rather hold this book than attend to other is because there is more pain and feelings that a human beings freedom is so much tortured the felt feel is real inside our body and mind.

SAMPLE ONE KEPT IN A CAGE WHERE IT IS DIFFICULT FOR A DOG TO LIVE.

Beaten and kept inside the small cage worse than treated for a wild animal and also changed and no food and isolated from others can break any person to die instant.

SENTENCED TO BE KEPT FOR SEVEN YEARS AWAY FROM ANY HUMAN CONTACT.

Being kept in a dark place only morning light rays fall and amidst the insects and crawling types bite and kiss ones lips how much one can endure and without in touch with other human being, even the food is supplied and the feeders face is not seen by the victim can one surivive SMALL FAULT ISOLATION WAS THE PUNISHMENT.

For every small offence during the captivity the victim is openly beaten by the fellow convicts to such an extent if any one see it as an observer will die of heart attack. I HATED FRENCH SO MUCH MY BLOOD BOILED.

THE WAY THEY TREATED CONVICTS

In human way papillon was treated throughout the period of conviction and his escape and again caught and kept in isolation and chained cannot be easily digested by us.

PAPILLON MEANS GIVE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE FOR FREEDOM.

Value of our life and freedom is more worth than all the love we ask for in life, ones own life is so much important then only one can do good for others.

FROM START TO END PAGE THE AUTHOR TAKES US TO THE WORLD OF HIS.

We become papillon because the story is so real and his adventure in the prision the way he escape with proper secretly planned which succeed and fail also is worth to know in our life also.

WE FEAR PUNISHMENT BUT WHY NOT FIGHT LIKE PAPILLON.

Many times so many type of authorities try to humilate us and we try to endure, when time comes ten times worse than we endured should also be inflicted on the person who cause us injury then only we can become papillon.

it is full of adventure, romance and also his love of life and ability to endure gives even an unhealthy person to become rejuvenated.

I felt that the so called authorities who think they have all right to beat and enjoy those beating as in human as nazis inflicted on jews.French were no less cruel than nazis because even after half of france was occupied by germans the free france continued to treat that is VICHY FRANCE they treated the prisioners in jails as badly as before, for them france in occupancey did not matter as far as inhumanly beating the prisioners.

ONE hundred lashes, one thousand lashes, beating till the person become like a pulp was the nature of french authorities and I doubt if they are like this even now.

Nature of french police can be made out if any one read papillon and one will never trust french police anymore.

The story is simple, papillon was convicted for a murder which he never committed but the prosecution proves vehementally and he was not even give a chance to move to the higher courts and instantly transported to distant cololy that belonged to france.

French loved to beat their own citizens elsewhere and gave a feel the paris feel for others. The real nature of French authorities I can say BRUTAL BRUTAL and if I have the stick ready to beat those FRENCH KILLERS WITH THE SAME TREATMENT SO THE VICTIMS SOUL WILL REST IN PEACE.

once papillion escape he lives by swimming in the sea for several days with a sack of coconut and this sack floats and also gives him nourishment to survive.

There are at least 1000 very interesting cruel incidance it shocks us.

one shock feel for you.

The persons in this island are all lepers, one leper lend milk to papillon and as papillon accepts the cup he for his shock finds the FINGER OF THE LEPER IS STUCK TO THE OUTSIDE THE CUP. I nearly vomited.

The Perfect Adventure

If you like adventure then please read this novel PAPILLON, I hope you like it, I have never read such a great adventure and the point is that it's a real story.

Whatever I imagine about the perfect adventure it's beyond of that. There is a movie also on PAPILLON with same name , that is also good, but I enjoyed the novel much and this is now my top most favourite really. The way writer explained the incidents and situation is amazing. PAPI is really a real hero.

I know if you read it same thing you will say.

But the only thing I don't like that PAPILLON didn't get his home place and people, and the most unlike thing is he didn't declare even at the end that he was not the culprit for the case he got sentenced. He didn't get so popularity as he deserved.PLZ the amazing adventure, if you start you wanna finish it on one sit.PAPILLON THE REAL HERO.

A Great Adventure Story!

Papillon....published in the year 1970....has been a phenomenal hit! Its a chilling yet inspiring true story of Henry Charriere's years in French Guiana during 1930's and his 9 escape attempts, wherein he finally succeeds!

This book is one of best sellers of its time..and I am positive that it will be equally acclaimed if read even now.

Henry is falsely implicated in a murder and sent for life imprisonment in the dreaded French Guiana jail. From there on its a story, which hardly falls short of his adventures, the terror the French authorities in the jail command, the brutality and the inhumane conditions of the fellow inmates!

Reality bites.....and trust me when I say it, because this book will send shivers down your spine with the pathetic state of the prisoners and the ''torture'' they are made to undergo. And an attempt to escape would lead them to a Dungeon, wherein you can hear screams of humanity going unheard! As Henry puts it in the book -- ''The Chinese discovered the drop of water that falls on your head. The French discovered silence.''

Henry makes 9 attempts to escape and each attempt is full of realistic and appealing description. I agree that its a darn tough job to make people stick to your book! Its a 560 paged book filled with excitement, courage and adventure!

One of his attempts take him to the feared Indians of the Goajira, where he has two wives, completely aloof from the other side of the world. There he is touched by their style of living..surviving on fishing and an almost wild in expression of every emotion. but alas....with no pretence whatsoever.

His attempts are marred by bad fortune, thus bringing him back to Guiana, even confinement into dungeons for 2 long years! He also gets helped by his friends in the jail, who help him survive the brutality by slipping in coconuts to him.

His final attempt using a bag of coconuts and help from the waves and along with a friend, who unfortunately dies in the swamp, at this point Henry can do little but to watch him vanish in the swamps! His encounter with an escaped Chinese and his little pig is like shot in the arm!

Finally, at Venezuela serving some time in prison....he gets his deserved Freedom! All the 14 years of his life just wasted away. At time in the book, Henry ponders on what keeps him moving...but he in one tough soul.

This book is not intellectually stimulating. The events might get termed as repulsive, but then thats the truth.

Above all its a gripping story....and it adds to the excitement knowing that it a true one! If you have some spare time....dedicate it to this book...you will not regret it!

Henry adds his own humour to the situations wherein his escapes fail....and thats commendable..you will find the humour with the first line of the book, which says IT WAS A KNOCKOUT BLOW-a punch so overwhelming that I didn't get back on my feet for fourteen years.

It did strengthen my belief that ''Impossible is nothing''. I hope you enjoy it too!
