Palace On Wheels Reviews

Wrong management
Jan 16, 2025 12:01 PM46 Views (via Mobile)

Dear All

I am one of the crew member of Palace on wheels ' THE PRIDE OF INDIA ' since September 2023 . Than two partners has been separated in year of 2024 . Was working with Mr Bhagat Sing under the reporting to Mr Sanjay Nischal and Mr Bhawani . As a employee my experience to work with this organization is WORST in lifetime i must say. First i was appointed to Lohargardh resort by Mr SAnjay and there I was working fine than looking into my performance they have shifted me to Palace on wheels. Over here i was working under Mr Bhawani who is the worst person and who feels the entire train he is only running . Being the GRE ( Guest Relation Executive ) i was suppose to take care of guest and feel them comfortable but Mr Bhawani force us to clean the cabin / washroom and be a cabin attendant. During the train his attitude towards the girls and other staff was very Rude and threating. Anything we tell him for on board cleaning or problem , rather than solving he always put the things on our head.

He abuse the staff with wrong words. He also force us to do the work which we do not want and for which we were not appoint. THe guest on tour also has lot of complains for him but he never listen . The cleanness on train is not up to the mark still . During the tour so many time guest has asked him to speak in manner but he never listen and try to very personal with guest so that guest dont give his feedback wrong . During my journey he has asked me to get down from the train 3-4 times.....he has threaten me by saying even Mr Bhagatji will tell i wont allow u to work on Trains.

Mr Sanjay was also aware that he has asked me to clean the cabin and washroom, in return i got answer " since u are going on train u have to do this though my appointment was GRE. I dont know why as a GM he was not able to tell Bhawani to stop all this nuisance .....

SAme time Mr Bittu has been appointed as a Operation manager but h also dont have manner to speak and same h was also having threatening language and abusing words . I do have recording for the same. THis both guys have threaten me by saying even i will speak to MD than also u are not able to come on train . ....IT SOUNDS LIKE TRAIN IS OWNED BY THEIR FATHERS AND INLAWS

this time when they have asked me to get down from train at Jaipur Mr Bhagatsingji WAS aware that they have asked me to get down and he has also not told anything BEING MD ..... they do not bother where a single girl will go and how come they asked girl to get down from the train in between. ....Tomorrow may be they will ask any guest to get down

So people : its request , The management is worst and the people on train is not good so think 100 times before placing the deposit on this train . As cleanness is still not there and staff is the people who are cleaning your washroom and than coming with u . Till time they have not even done my salary . I have to asked Mr Sanjay to give me some amount to go back to my hometown , but h has never asked what happen . When they have asked me to get down even not asked weather i have money to go home or not .

This is the genuine feedback as a crew and as a staff of Palace on wheels . Stop going on train . Not because i am facing problem , but i do not want NRI people to go with unhygienic thing and face BHAWANI as this person can act funny anytime .

Surprise is on train there are seniors who are travelling too but non of them were telling anything to Mr Bhawani & Mr bittu and nobody has supported me . May be they all are afraid of loosing the JOB

this feedback is not for Palace on wheels but for people who are running in wrong way . Wrong people / wrong attitude / wrong managers and wrong management ......

Palace on Wheels | is the royal Maharaja Ride
Jul 30, 2015 05:03 PM17196 Views

Palace on wheels is really a very good luxury train but it is really a costly affair . Covering the same destinations staying in 5 star hotels would not cost the price which is to be paid to travel in Palace on Wheels .

This is some thing were Rajasthan Tourism should really think of and take into consideration .

Royal Rajasthan on wheel

I have been looking at Palace on Wheels for quite sometime due to it has route just opposite my house. Had twice opportunity to ride it as well. AWESOME.  Royal Rajasthan on Wheels is the name of new luxury train in India which will cover some places of Royal Rajasthan.

Luxury train tour in India has become so popular that Government of Rajasthan has introduced a new luxury train after Palace on Wheels. The Palace on Wheels has received great response from the foreign tourists and it was not possible to accommodate all the tourists who come for the tour. In fact the train is booked till the end of 2009. So the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels has been introduced to fulfill the tourists demand. A week of royal life style including visit to the some of interesting famous spots of Rajasthan is something very exciting.

The link above gives every bit of detail on the trip.

We took the trip in April this year. Good we planned early( In Aug 2011) since the rates rise steeply as the dates get closer.

We loved it - for an Indian family this is a dream holiday. Surprisingly the train is full of foreigners( Only 3 Indian Families were in the train). Every single thing is taken care of - the service is superb.

Rates are not high - if you planned a similar holiday by car you would probably take double the time with the hassle of changing hotels every day.

Strongly recommend this to others

A Joureny Evocative of Royal Past of Rajasthan
Mar 05, 2011 02:35 PM19364 Views

In India, train ride in the lap of luxury has come a long way since the Introduction of venerable Palace on Wheels(https://palacesonwheels.co.uk) chugging along Rajasthan way back in 1982. Palace on wheels takes the guest on a whirlwind ride across most royal destinations in the “land of Maharajahs” Rajasthan. Palace on wheels is an endeavor to recreate the pageantry and pampering of the erstwhile princes of Rajasthan as they travelled to meet the who’s who of the country in Colonial India.

Each cabin of the Palace on Wheels is named after former princely states of Rajputana. Laden with the lifestyle, culture and myriad colors of a bygone era, each of the 14 deluxe cabins of the Palaces on Wheels will transport into a different time and era. The quaint décor of the cabins are suffused with the motif of the princely state after which each cabin is named. Each cabin is a walking gallery of grandeur and enchanting mélange of colors. Elegant furnishings and rich tapestries add to the romance and adventure of this luxury train tour. Facilities such as attached bathrooms, TV, intercom and channel music and there is a personal attendant(Khidmatgar) appointed for each cabin.

During this 7 nights and 8 days ethereal journey, myriad colors of Rajasthan will paint a fascinating canvas on your mind. This whirlwind voyage traverses the course of destinations such as Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur and Bharatpur. Sprinkled across these meticulously selected destinations is an array of resplendent fortresses, sparkling palaces, undulating sand dunes of Thar Desert and amazing concoction of colors and culture.

Not just the journey, itinerary and facilities, but a gourmet dining experience is also in store as you traverse the course of this regal odyssey. Two tastefully appointed restaurants on board ensure that your taste buds are not disappointed. Although the variety is not at par of a luxury hotel, decent variety of palatable food from around the world are served here for your platter. Cuisines include Indian, Chinese, Continental and Thai cuisines. But the pick of the dining experience is the local and authentic cuisine of Rajasthan.

Watch the landscape meander by through the window and soak up the myriad colors od the royal state of Rajasthan. You will be confounded at the sheer diversity of this land of Maharajahs. Yet this is the most charming part of your journey too. A ride on board the train promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Recently, a friend from visited India and was planning golden chariot booking but I suggested him to go for palace wheels. He started searching and found palaceonwheels-train.com, and called the sales guy in Palace on Wheels Delhi office, Within 7 days, his booking was confirmed and he actually thanked me so many times for the extraordinary trip he had on Palace ON Wheels, simply king style?

A must tour to experience once in a life time. I can even give the direct contact number of Mr Subrato 9999903611 who actually helped my friend in arranging all this tour right from Austin.

Relive the royal experience

My recent visit to India was extremely interesting as I got a chance to fulfill one of my long cherished dreams! The dream was to explore across the length and breadth of India aboard a luxury train. Well if not entirely, at least I got a chance to travel to some of the most acclaimed destinations of the north, all renowned for their heritage and cultural significance. On board the Palace on Wheels we got a chance to travel across some of the popular destinations in Rajasthan as well as the spectacular Agra! Wow! The Taj Mahal sojourn was something that I will cherish forever.

My luxury journey began in New Delhi, the national capital and soon travelled to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. As I had expected, the journey was fun and exhilarating and the sightseeing to the popular monuments was especial as well. Hawa Mahal, Amer Fort, City Palace. The list of the places that we visited here is endless. After Jaipur we traveled to Jaisalmer, the city on yellow sandstone.

Jaisalmer as you all know is most well known for its sand dunes and havelis and the camel ride to the dunes made the trip particularly memorable. Jodhpur and Sawai Madhopur were the next destinations that we visited and the Ranthambore National Park and the visit to the Umaid Bhawan Palace will surely linger on in my heart forever. The national park is especially known for its tigers and the bountiful flora besides the fauna is indeed very impressive. The grand residence of the Maharaja of Jodhpur, the Umaid Bhawan Palace, is one place that exudes royalty and stateliness from all corners. Every occasion in this palace is celebrated in great style and besides visiting this palace; we also got a chance to visit the Mehrangarh fort and the Jaswant Thada, two equally imposing attractions. Chittorgarh and Udaipur are destinations that are known for their distinct charm and lineage and manage to entice the visitors to no bounds. The trip to Agra, particularly to view the magnificent Taj Mahal was simply awesome.

Believe me, I had visited these places before and this particular visit was more spectacular owing to the luxury train ride. The facilities aboard including the tastefully done up cabins and the dining lounge as well as the souvenir shop, completed our recreational and gastronomic requirements to the fullest and to refresh our weary senses, the in house Spa of the Palace on Wheels held several surprises….

I just booked my tour from: thepalacesonwheels.com/ and quite happy with the services.

Far away from luxury
Jun 17, 2008 02:07 AM15295 Views

My wife and I boarded the train on the 5th of March 2008 and cannot recommend this train. The cabin was far away from "luxury". Especially the aircon in our cabin was extremely loud and had just two levels: little on or maximum on. The bathroom was clean but very shabby.

Our cabin was wall on wall to the generator which was so loud that we were not able to hear the normal sound of a moving train. This problem was known to the crew. However, the train manager told us, that we can leave the train if we don’t like it (of course on our own costs).

The dinner was in two shifts: the passengers in the first shift had to have their dinner in 60-70 minutes to make place for the hungry passengers in the second shift.

The food itself was good but we expected some special indian food and got a mixture between european and indian style.

All together I think the train is not worth the money. If you want to visit India and all the great places (you can see during the journey with Pow) I recommend staying the nights in the Palaces and luxury hotels in the cities. They are very good and can keep up easily with the upper international standards. For the price you pay for the train you can hire a first class four wheel car, a driver and a personnel attendant for the packing and unpacking.

Half the passengers got food poisoning

We boarded the train April 1, 2008. It was clear from the start that this was not a luxury train, or anything close, by western standards.  Everything was very shabby, from the cabin to the rest of the train.  The photos in their ads make it look great--it isn't.

I could have stood that.  I'm not someone who demands luxury, if everything else is OK.  But, it was a  case of false advertising.  They advertised and charged for a luxurious experience.

But, a few days after the trip began, people started to get sick.  My travelling companion and I were among them.  And we knew beyond a doubt that the food on the train was the culprit---we had just been traveling for three weeks in southern India, eating at all kinds of places, and never got sick.

I would not recommend the Pow to anyone, unless you enjoy being sick.  It was a horrible experience, in all ways except for the sights that we saw.

Feel Pride, No Prejudice

Travelling in one of the world's most highly rated train journeys is always a welcome break and that too when it comes sponsored from the other side.

I had always dreamnt of travelling in Palace on Wheels (read POW) and the famous Glacier Express in Swiss Alps. Well the oppurtunity to travel in POW came first and was quiet unexpected. As an incentive programme my company booked me for 4 nights in the train along with my colleague. Before the onset of the journey I decided to read as much as I can regarding the train ant its itinerary (course of travel). Every new internet page was an eye opener for the train as everyday I was coming to know about the different facets of the train.

Any ways the D day and throughtout the last night I was dreaming about the train, feeling about its aura, texture, ambience, food etc. Delhi cantt is as crowded as always, and I gently forgive the municla corporation for the rucus outside the train station as I was on a high and why not that was the experience of life time which I was going to witness. There were arrangements for traditional welcome at the arrival lounge and honestly somewhere we felt that this train is only for foreign nationals, owing to the way things were moving around us. Again as gentle as Budhha, we let them takeover our emotions and we were waiting to get our boarding cards- yes boarding cards I mean it, they are like flight pass, remarkable!!!!.

We were given Kota coach, no I am not from minority so that one feels I was on kota, in actual Kota is a place in Rajasthan, As a matter of fact all the coaches of POW are named after one or the other city of Rajasthan. Broad moustache attendents welcomed us at the gates and I was getting excited as I was about to enter a totally different world. The interiors are really beautiful, but in some places they have become a eye sour for the passengers. Anyways I sat in the sofa next to the gate and my baggage was placed in my cabin, everything now was taken care by the staff RELIGIOUSLY. The drinks, the cashewnuts, the nuts all tasted exotic and was looking like that I was experiencing them for the first time in my life.

Beds are small, but one can manage after a nights sleep, after a quick shower we decided to explore the train in its every nook and corner. The bar was already set, drinks are really expensive, but since we do not drink, therefore we thought that these are our savings-- an idea comes only from genius. we were given time for dinner at 2045 hrs, we were already there by 2000 hrs, see india is changing people have started reaching places before time- good job. Food was really great, the way it was cooked, prepared, served and informed to us one by one. POW has an speciality in tandoor, therefore it is highly recommended for the saviours of tandoori food.

After the dinner it is the time of the day when you can sit in the lounge having black coffee in your mind (served as well) and opening your chatter box with your fellow passengers. It is but obvious that the fellow passengers travelling in the train must have done something in their life, that's why they have made it to POW. Sometimes I used to wonder if fraction of these passengers are held back in our country for say 10 years, imagine the vast pool of experts will be there in our country (can happen only in communist countries)

Anyways, days were employed in the sightseeings and exploring the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan and nights passed in admiring the beauty of this moving heritage. It was very hard to say goodbye to this marvel of India Railways.

But time and POW stops for nobody and so are we.

It gently slipped from the platform, chugging off to another destination to give glimpse of another world in the same world. (maybe einstein gets a clue for another theory from this statement)

Tips and Information from Past Passengers
Feb 26, 2006 08:58 AM13606 Views

My husband and I had such a wonderful time on this trip that we created an online community for past, future, and potential Palace on Wheels passengers. We share our reviews, tips, photos, and even memorabilia from the trip. You don't want to miss these essential tips. https://mypalaceonwheels.com

The service was phenomenal. This is definitely the best way to see Rajasthan. You don't want to fly between 8 cities or drive when you could be in this luxurious setting. Also, you definitely don't want to miss Rajasthan. Each city was uniquely incredible. The trip culminates in Agra at the Taj Mahal, which is more wondrous than we had expected. https://mypalaceonwheels.com

Our fellow passengers ranged from four-year olds to seventies, with most people in their 40s-50s and a large group of teenagers. We were grouped with people closer to our age, without requesting it. We met wonderful people and we still keep in touch. https://mypalaceonwheels.com

The prices change depending on the season. The prices are available on the Palace on Wheels website. Generally, September-April, it's $2065.00 for double occupancy. October - March, it's $2695.00 for double occupancy.

If you have ever dreamed of riding a train, this is the trip for you! https://mypalaceonwheels.com

Move in a Palace
Jul 12, 2003 05:36 PM16056 Views

Palace on Wheels is one of the most important tourist attractions of North India. It is a joint project of Govt. of India, RTDC (Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation) and the Indian Railways. It is a train that will make you wonder if you actually boarded a train or one of the many magnificent palaces of Rajasthan. It has a rich mixture of elegant interiors, great service with its coach attendants or ‘khidmatgars’ as they are called and an enjoyable and wide cuisine (and fare enough to make you forget your annual vacations for quite a while).

Palace on Wheels covers the three most important tourist destinations of India i.e. Agra, Delhi and Jaipur which are known as the ‘Golden Triangle’ (because of their popularity among the foreign tourist and their contribution to the net income of Indian Tourism) besides all the other beautiful cities of Rajasthan. The Journey on this Moving Palace is an 8 day affair. It starts every Wednesday from the Delhi Cantonment Railway Station and the rest of the journey goes as follows:

  1. Boarding from Delhi Cantonment

  2. Reaching Jaipur, also knows as the ‘Pink City’ because of its pink buildings. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and derives its name from its founder..Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. You are then taken on a guided tour of the city in an air-conditioned coach. Here you get to visit the Hawa Mehel, a beautifully carved 5 storey building, Amber Fort (from a certain point on the hill, you are taken till the fort on elephant back), City Palace (the royal family still resides in a portion of this palace, and it has a museum containing the treasures of Maharajas), Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh Fort and then back to your moving palace. Lunch and Dinner are inclusive in the fare of the train and is arranged during the tour of the city.

  3. Two cities of Rajasthan are covered in the next day. Chitttogarh, with its awesome fort, which was conquered by Bappa Rawal from the Maurya Dynasty in the 8th century,is the first stop.

Udaipur, named after its founder Maharaja Uday Singh is the ‘City of Lakes’.Here, you are taken to the city’s two most breathtaking palaces, Jag Nivas and Jag Mandir, made of white marble and in the middle of lake Pichola. Then a visit to the City Palace and Garden of Maids of Honour completes the day’s tour.

  1. Sawai Madhopur is the next city in the treasure trove. It is also named after its founder Sawai Madho Singh. This city is known for Ranthambore National Park, which is one of the most famous wild life sanctuaries of India. It has more than 300 species of birds and many carnivores but most importantly. …Tigers (and you’ll have a whole day to enjoy their company).

  2. Jaisalmer, founded by Rawal Jaisal, is in the heart of the desert so you will be able to enjoy a good day of desert safari on camel back. You will also get to visit the beautifully carved palaces of yellow sandstone………Nathmalji ki haveli, Salim Singh ki haveli and Patwon ki haveli.

  3. Jodhpur, founded by Rao Jodha ,is surrounded by a high stonewall with seven gates. Here you will get to visit Mehrangarh Fort,Moti Mehel,Sheesh Mehel,Phool Mehel,Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana, each remarkable in its own way.

  4. This is the last day of the journey and it covers two cities.

First you arrive in Bharatpur, which has another famous bird sanctuary ……Keoladeo Ghana National Park, well known for its migratory birds and Siberian cranes. This is the last city of Rajasthan in your visit.

Next city, and the last in the itinerary, is the famous city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh.First you are taken to Fatehpur Sikri, built by the Moghul Emperor Akbar in gratitude for Salim Chisti , a famous Sufi Saint. It is on the outskirts of the Agra city. Then you get to visit Taj Mahal, the white marble monument of love and sorrow.

  1. Your journey ends on this 8th day from where it has started…Delhi Cantonment Station.

Palace on Wheels has 14 compartments with all the facilities of a five star hotel. The ticket fare depend on whether you want to take a whole compartment to yourself or if you share it with two or three people. It is charged in Us Dollars but can be paid in INR according to the current exchange rates. Fare for children under 12 is half .The time I have talked about was a few years back. The fare then was 370 US Dollars per person PER NIGHT.This was for the off-season, which is in India from April to September. The fare for the peak tourist season i.e. from October to March is slightly higher. It is all inclusive of meals, city tours, animal rides e.t.c.But the time I have talked about was a few years back so I am not sure if the fares have been revised.

Regarding clothing, the temperature inside the train is controlled according to your convenience. In winters, you will have to carry light woollens for your city tours. Summers in Rajasthan are extreme so carry clothing accordingly especially if you plan to roam the bazaars because it will be difficult for you to resist shopping. The place is filled with handicrafts and artefacts.

Though the fare of Palace on Wheels is not easy for everyone to afford, those who can, should not miss it for the world. It saves you a lot of hassle of seeing so many places on your own, arranging your own transportation and accommodation. An important thing to keep in mind is that the train is heavily booked for months in advance.

I hope my review is of help to those who are planning to enjoy this royal experience. Do let me know.
