Hi!
At last I bought this one (Taiwan make). I have no regrets at all. If you want to see the real feeling of DVD system, you need to have at least a 5.1 system with Dolby Digital and DTS receiver. I had studies so much about home theatres available in the market before deciding to buy this one. My criteria of comparison was sound quality vs price. And ONKYO came out as best bet.
I have compared this one with Sony’s DAV-DZ100 which comparable in terms of output power (600 - 700 W RMS). I could clearly make out the difference - Onkyo delivered sound with more clarity.
It has 2 fron, 1 center, 2 rear speakers (all 100W RMS) each and a 150 W subwoofer. Subwoofer has independent power supply and volume control. The amp section has handy controls like bass and treble. Apart from this there is crossover controll which adjusts the bass to further levels. The subwoofer volume gives further control over bass, what else one needs?
The amp can deliver extremely good dynamic power. This is what is required in a good dvd receiver. And as far as audio is concerned, this one delivers awesome clarity, depth and power BOTH AT LOW VOLUME AND HIGH VOLUME. This is because of high Signal/Noise ratio of 100 dB. Most of the popular brands at this price range, has this ratio somewhere around 70 dB. I bet this is capable of shaking the floor, but never irritates ears like many 2000 W PMPO players. I have seen many TVs and music systems with high output, but hardly one can listen to them for a long time - you feel like reducing volume because it irritates. With Onkyo, one can listen at high volume for long time, it is still music.
The DVD player also makes a difference. I have sony make, which works very well. The audio is connected using optical cable, so no need to go for a 5.1 PLAYER which is expensive compared to standard 2.1.
This is really a good one if you are entering the high end HTIBs. There are certainly other options like Denon, Bose etc. But never compared with these yet. The only problem I have is with remote - it is really poor!
Go for it if you can particular about power VS quality Vs Price, I bet it is THE BEST.

- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
