Blue is arguably the king, THE BEST in techno music! The fact that they're best, according to me, at what they do, is backed up by the success of almost all their albums that have released so far. After their very successful album ''All Rise'' that had all sorts of diverse tunes combined with brilliant execution, hopes were certainly high from their next release ''One Love''.
Infact hopes being just HIGH, is an understatement. When a band gives fantastic tunes with equally fantastic and diverse execution in their earlier album, for instance the title track All Rise and Too Close (techno), If You come back in my life (romantic pop), and Fly By (Disco/techno), the expectations from their next album become EXTRA-ORDINARILY high!
So did ''One Love'' succeed in recreating the magic of ''All Rise''? The answer to that, according to me and several observations, is no. But not a BIG no by any means. The title track of ''One Love'' was just amazing. It was to me much ahead of All Rise in terms of success, eventually after its chartbusting nature took it to Bollywood in the movie Rakht where Abhishek Bachchan danced wonderfully to the equally wonderfully tune. Even Shaan seemed to be having fun singing this wonderfully created techno song. But barring this song, the album isn't all that flattering, and in some departments is comparable to Bollywood techno kings Vishal-Shekar's latest movie album DUS!
DUS had its rocking business and reviews based on only its OUTSTANDING title song, followed by the melodious ''Cham se'' and then a somewhat catchy ''Deedar De''. ''One Love'' as an album follows the same track. It has an outstanding techno beat in the title song, and it follows it up with a smooth, catchy tune, combined with a nice video and enthusiastic vocals from all members (Lee, Duncan, Simon, Antony) in its second best song ''You make me wanna''! However, there's a difference in the success of the both albums DUS and ''One Love''.
DUS has been rated at least equally, and by some, even better than Vishal Shekhar's previous successful albums KAANTE and MUSAFIR. The reason for that is that business prospects differ for every different album. DUS was a Bollywood production and was embraced whole-heartedly by a huge majority of listeners. ''One Love'' too was at least a decent success I guess, despite it not being rated as good as BLUE's previous album by many listeners in my knowledge.
Perhaps BLUE happened big time with ''All Rise'', thus creating ultra-high expectations from their next album. So it took time for the listeners to stop drawing comparisons of ''One Love'' with ''All Rise''. And despite not offering as many popular tracks like ''All Rise'', ''One Love'' became successful after all due to the support offered by the fans of the band who still realized that the two songs in the album made it much better than the music some other bands had been creating.
All said and done, Blue are a group with amazing class. Each one of their songs has its own touch. Since ''One Love'' came out in 2001/2002, it isn't their latest album. Yet it remains with the listener due to the two above mentioned songs that made the whole album worthed. So sing it up for BLUE and for ''One Love''!
